  1. New bolt(s) arrived from Harpermoto today (4 weeks). Screw, 10mmx59mm 01357731 They are 10.9 hardness and all very nicely cadmium plated. I continue to suspect this is largely about corrosion protection at that vulnerable location. Very much like the potential shock eye breakage reported at the nearby shock pivot bolt that suffers from similar neglect and corrosion. @Curtis Harper has a few of these on hand. And I'll be sporting a few in the Tekno pannier as SpineRaid party favors . . .

  2. Even though my EV has been garaged unless being ridden or on trips, all of my turn signals went south relatively early on. And, of course, with 107K miles, such is not unexpected. I used popsicle sticks as splints, black vinyl tape to cover those, and caple ties for additional support. Pretty lame, but, hey, they worked and only looked half-, not all-, bad. Then, the (Great) Wayne Orwig, Guzzi Guru Extraordinaire, sent me these: Made those on his 3D printer. Pretty high end -- as is all of Wayne's work, and even come with a period Guzzi eagle. Haven't installed them yet, but look forward to doing that soon. On an unrelated note, found that lost pic of HRH, Al, Lord Roethlisberger, at that moto-gathering this past Saturday in Cartage, N.C.. Off to home at the top of Virginia later this morning. Even tho I'll be on back roads where traffic is slower, I'll still be cursed by many for my Grapes of Wrath rig. The mighty four of the 2009 Honda Fit -- with 270K+ miles! -- can only do so much when towing. Bill

  3. That officially makes it a "cruiser" bike?

  4. Thanks! According to the parts diagram, this is what the assembly is supposed to be, but of course I'd have to check what is actually on my 98 to see when this was adopted. BTW, as an aside... as you may recall, I was mostly out-of-the-loop on even thinking about my MG for over a decade as other life priorities intruded, and then there was 3+ years of pandemic... When I was first tinkering with the LeMans back in 2002 and in the years following, there wasn't much online to reference like these parts diagrams. So having these diagrams and part numbers readily available from various sites, and downloadable, is REALLY helpful now

  5. To adress that problem on a couple of bikes, I bought this: https://www.louis.de/artikel/teflon-gleitfolie-fuer-gasgriff/10026095?filter_article_number=10026095 The ring will go on pretty much any bike, and reduces or eliminates friction between the grip and the switchblock. That was an issue I had with the Domino short-throw throttle on my V35 Imola. I put one of the rings in on the GTR 1000 too. If I remember correctly, I could put the flat sheet around the handlebar in on the Domino grip, but not on the GTR 1000, but that might have been the other way around. On one of the bikes, there wasn't enough gap between the throttle barrel and the bar. For the one on which the sheet wouldn't fit, I used some spray-on Teflon on the handlebar. That worked well too.

  6. I'll ask him when I get back to Virginia. Naturally, there will be a surcharge for my providing contact info. I don't know the experiences of others, but I was aware of the sticking cable before the recall fix, but not since. Actually, my throttle grip still sticks, but because of my inept installation of heated grips. I have decided to view that as a "feature," i.e., aftermarket cruise control. Bill

  7. What I meant was to keep an eye on it because if the throttle body migrates aft and the rod drags, the throttle will be hard to close. I don't know when they did it, but later FI Guzzis have a throttle body "assembly."

  8. Wow 270k! ... and 107k! You definitely get your money's worth out of your vehicles! Soooo hey, is Wayne Orwig still making those replacement stalks, and if so what is his contact info?

  9. Shin Etsu is to rubber as Caig DeOxit gold is to electrons. Expensive and worth every penny. Have I told you how DeOxit just repaired my "too expensive to fix" Miller TIG welder? Or 2 or 3 years ago, my "too expensive to fix" Generac whole house generator? Here's what happened to cause the "twin throttle cable" recall. The throttle bodies just hang on the heads via the rubber gizmos. (technical term) The balance rod for them is very close to the air box. A backfire can cause one of the throttle bodies to move aft, and the balance rod *will* hang up on the air box. If the throttle is open at the time, the driver can't close it. Rather than making a solid mount for the throttle bodies, the cheap (Guzzi content) way to fix that problem was to add the closing cable. I know for a fact that John Lloyd, (RIP) good guy, met his maker in just that manner. Anyone with a 98EV needs to keep an eye on this issue in their pre ride inspection.

  11. Getting back to this: The switch arrived today. The bloke that sent it still hasn't informed me how I can get the money to him. €20,- seems to be a pretty fair price to me. Anyway, with a bit of luck I should be able to get in to the garage tomorrow and install the switch. I'll be having a look inside, of course. At the very least clean and grease (I've got a hold of some Caigs grease, so I'll be trying that...). Depending on how the insides of the "new" switch look, it might be a case of "mix and match" with bits out of the old one. Report on progress probably in about 24 hours.

  12. Well, I just had this "delivered" yesterday... seriously, the previous owner rode it 40 miles and delivered it to my house for "free" (well, "included") ...good guy It's a 1998 California V11 EV ...so it's technically on-V11-topic I've never been a "cruiser" guy, but this was just up the road, looked great (Californias have grown on me over 20 years, but I used to really not like them to be honest), and was really cheap. So I thought for the price I could risk giving it a try. Plus it came with bags I've wanted for a while, that would have been 20% of the cost of the entire bike! The previous owner apparently was the national sales manager for MG in the USA in the early 90s when Moto America was the importer, located right down the road in tiny Lillington, NC. He said he almost certainly sold this bike to the dealership (if you can call the small shops selling MG back then "dealerships"), that sold the bike to its first owner, who he then bought it from 2 years ago. This guy has a garage full of BMWs and MGs, and is very fastidious about his equipment, and the first owner was apparently a mechanic who was also very keen on upkeep. So hopefully that bodes well for the overall bike. But definitely an interesting chain of custody. It has 41k miles, and is in excellent condition, with some understandable patina from its 26 years and a few small paint scratches and chips, but overall in remarkably good condition, especially as a "10 footer". Other than the seat and big plexiglass National Cycle fairing, it appears to be completely stock I have to replace the big Corbin seat with something similar to stock though, both for aesthetics (ruins the lines in my opinion), and more importantly because it really is too tall for me with that big couch

  13. That's terrible So when you say "Anyone with a 98EV needs to keep an eye on this issue in their pre ride inspection.", are you saying: 1) The twin cable recall doesn't fully fix the issue, so again keep an eye on the linkage? 2) Post-1998 EVs somehow fixed the issue, and if so how? Did the inclusion of the twin cable throttle after 1998 address the problem, or did MG do something else after 1998? But yes, my 1998 has the twin cables on the throttle.

  15. Yeah, the fella I bought if from had little Ukranian flags on all his bikes, just blue and yellow strips of electrical tape in actuality though Not from Shelby, NC, if that's what you were asking. The previous owner was up in the north of Raleigh, about 40 minutes away from me here in Sanford. He had the bike on Facebook Marketplace, and I think posted to the MGNOC group on FB. I think that's how I ran across it.

  16. That 1/2" fuel line ought to slip right on and a good hose clamp take up that extra 0.028" . . . Back on the road and time for a "Decent Tune-up!"

  17. RM lives all but a bit roughly . I had to remove rod between fuel injection units to remove gearbox. I'm thinking these need synconising. I know someone who has the tool to do it. Went with the 12.7mm fuel line. I know Repco have a reel of 12mm selling for $1,500 which is a bit much qty & $. Will ask & see what they can do

  19. Hard plastic aging under UVs is relentless over the years. Especially older types. They become brittle and simply transform to dust. The lens of my speedometer is now fissured from sun exposition.

  20. And oh BTW, if anyone runs across on of these genuine MG "Sport" windscreens like Bill has on his EV, let me know. The MG part number for the smaller "Sport" windscreen is: GU03575102 I'll try to remember to ask Mark about that too.
