  1. My Quota 1100 ES is also a 2000, which I bought new in 2001. Was my exclusive ride until I bought my V11S this year! No vintage/antique MC tags available here in Colorado.

  2. Hi Phil I'm somewhat late for a comment on this topic, but I found the link to this topc on the gernan red forum. When I first serviced the TBs of my V11 which sucked a lot of air into the engine that shouldn't be, I was not successful. I used the Yamaha seal ring and the same steel bushes with teflon coating as were used by Guzzi. The new bushes did not alter the play of the throttle spindles. Neither the bushes nor the spindles showed any sign of wear. I assembles it and found the running behavior of the engine as worse than ever. Two years later I made a new attempt on the subject and used bronze bushings that needed to be reworked with a reamer. This was the solutio - the spindle play was severely reduced and so the sealers could handle better the reduced air sream through the bearig.

  3. The RS Sport was a much better looking bike. Different wheels, much better looking seat unit, painted engine, usd forks, more power than the original Daytona and Carrillo rods.

  4. I can solder just fine, but the two wires are really close together and I only have about an 1/8" stub protruding. I'll have to put a small heat shield between them. After reading about these things, I see how they are problematic. Such an important part with pansy ass wiring.

  5. Hmmmm certain evidence points to the Apr*lia Mana being one third MORE righteous than said Grease oh. Perhaps that situation is down to heatstroke though.

  7. I am not reinstalling the wave washer, as it did not serve any purpose. I have shimmed the shift lever properly, and it no longer has any lateral play.

  8. ah ah ah.... When i got stopped for overspeeding, I also explained that those old pointers on the ITI speedometers are not really steady, but hover around the marks. In any case, they do not have to accept any reason or rationale. If they want to write you up because they need to meet quota before returning to the station, then you are done, because this is usually how it works. They are given an objective, and this is what drives them for those petty infrangements.

  9. One night I got stopped going into Tamms , Il. going 87 in a 35 . Some fast thinking mentioned "no dash lights" on the 87SE and I was forgiven . That bike loves going fast !

  10. IF you have not located a manual petcock , I found a used one in my stuff. I was sure I had a new one. If you still need it , I can send it to you .

  11. Agreed re "parade". In any case, it all depends on the mood of the officers you are interfacing with. Insofar, I have yet to meet a bully policeman here in Texas. I have been stopped a few times, mainly because going too fast. I never got anything else than discussing the Moto Guzzi motorcycle that I rode. My last stop was coming back from Phoenix on the Quota; I think I was stopped because it was still with the AZ tag. As soon as the officer saw my TX Driver's license, that was the end of it. He stopped me because I did not make a standstill stop at a red traffic light before turning right. I explained the Quota had no idle, so I took the path of lazyness to not stop. But I clearly had enough time to make the turn without interfering with the incoming traffic, but somewhat, he wanted to talk to me.... lol... There is another factor that may help. I am a senior citizen, and I think, I maybe wrong, but I think it gives me some kind of clout or respect, as long as I am respectful of the authority in my interaction. As for the plates, where I live there are a lot of cars which have a mask in front of them, making them unreadable to the human eye unless you are very close. They will not defeat the plate readers, but they may prevent you from making a legitimate claim if one hits you.

  12. Not sure when Moto Guzzi went back to the manual petcock on the V11. Perhaps during 2001, but certainly by 2002? The point at which the last fuse slot went dormant . . .

  15. If you are competent , you can do it. Keep wires separated when you do the solder job and use silicone or something non-conductive to hold everything in place when you finish .

  16. Peeled out epoxy around wires to expose broken wire stub. Not sure I can get a good solder joint with what I have to work with. I'll try though. Ordered the manual one from MG. If it ain't one thing, it's another.

  17. Generally, any mirror will be the first thing to hit the ground if/when the motorcycle falls over, including the stock mirrors. My wife has a collection of broken stock and replacement stock mirrors as a result. The bar end mirrors do hit the ground, but they tend to act as protection for more important things. You can keep riding with a broken mirror, you may not be able to do so with a broken throttle. As to aesthetics, I find them to be way better looking then the standard bug antenna mirrors. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Suffice it to say, some people think they look better then stock and some don't. To each their own.

  18. Every single person I've known over the years that gets into home brewing doesn't stick at it for more than a year or two. Too fiddly and finicky esp when you are woken up in the middle of the night with bottled beer blowing the caps off on occasions. Phil

  19. No problem . Find a manual petcock along w/any o-rings involved and get rid of the electric one.

  20. Update...ran all new fuel lines and installed new filter. Thank to Scud's compatible parts list finding the filter was easy. Airbox cleaned out and everything cleaned up. Connecting the last jack from the fuel solenoid I noticed one wire had broken off at the bottom of the unit. SO NEAR YET SO FAR! I know the solenoid unscrews from the petcock. I looked at my other 2001 sport and it doesn't seem to have a wired solenoid on the petcock. Why would that be? And more importantly, what to do now? I knew those wires were fragile and I took care but they are almost 25 years old.

  21. It really depends on the bike, doesn't it? The sport has a 4-posted nut on the front axle. 10mm wrench, and a 4" adjustable that opens to about 14mm. Tiny flat for the idle air adjustments (no, shouldn't be fooling with them) battery tire pump and plug kit. A cheap set of metric allens. Seat, tank, etc. is all allen on this one. Whilst rebuilding the V11 I'll have to make note about tools, but I expect it'll be a couple seasons before something falls off.

  22. Here in FL, nobody cares what you do with historic/antique tagged vehicles. Next time I have to replace a plate it will be vintage; my only vehicles that don't qualify are my '04 Yukon and this accidental '05 BMW RT. If I take a Moto Guzzi, or my '68 Charger anywhere including the grocery store, it's an automatic car show because inevitably I end up talking to someone. If I'm driving up the boulevard, it's a parade; FL statute doesn't include a definition for 'parade', nor requires some sanction for it. Statute requires permitting for parades that interfere with traffic or normal business. For plate covers, paints, etc. that are intended to defeat reading, either by eye or technology, they are strictly forbidden though I don't personally know anyone who's been cited for it. The plate readers on the squad cars are so good it probably doesn't matter anyway.

  24. Thought I might be able to ride the Breva to work tomorrow. There's been some rain, the salt should be gone, and it is expected to by dry tomorrow. At the time I have to go to work it is expected to be 0°C, when I come home all the way up to 4°C. I'm nursing a cold at the moment, so I think I'll be on the tram (again).
