  1. Here's a bunch of home made Guzzi/Ducati tools except for the blue one and the deep socket black one. I "think" the ring nut one is the chrome 4 prong one. It's 1 and 1/8 inch and a but rough I'll admit but a lot of these were pre milling machine home made. They only need to do the job once a lot of the time so practicality overrides looks and longevity. Phil

  3. I'll dig out the tool when I get a chance and measure it. Thirty years ago or more I saw the Burns Brothers magnificent doco series "The Civil War" and have been fascinated by it ever since. I visited a few battle fields while in the states and of course RE Lee's family home, now Arlington Cemetery. Visited the Museum at Richmond and thanks to docc sending me Sam Watkins book Co Aytch. Plus a few other books on the subject. Still fascinates me.

  4. Heck, I keep a patch kit and inflator when I travel with the runflats on my Corvette. For the record 0-2. They do like to blowout.

  5. Here GST is included in the prices on the menu and displayed prices. I really don't need to be reminded of how much tax I'm being charged and it's just far simpler transaction wise. Tourist taxes are relatively new I think but on the rise because the world is now overrun by tourists and the locals are a bit fed up. Last time I was in the states we took some 100 dollar notes with us, as you do. Only 500 dollars worth just for the start of the trip, just in case. Traders just looked at me like I was a drug dealer when I tried to pay with them and most just couldn't take them. Gave up and just used the cards everywhere. Here at least when you walk into a shop or restaurant and look at the prices then that's what you pay at the till or checkout. No complications or maths required. Clean and simple. Phil

  6. You can make a tool from a cheap socket of the correct Dia and a hacksaw and files. I've done this a few times to make these tools before I had the mill. Phil

  7. Abbreviation for Passenger. We used it in the airline industry and pilots refer to "pax on board" etc.

  8. Relay #5 is the relay that powers the fuel pump , ign, coils and fuel injectors . There are 5 terminals at the relay . You have two terminals and then three terminals . The two terminals have B+ and when the relay is energized the other terminal supplies powe to injectors, coils & fuel pump. Put a test light on the first terminal where the relay was plugged in , this should light up. If not check fuse #2 with your test light. It should light up on both sides . Try this and see if you have B+. If this works apply B+ to the second terminal to see if the pump powers up . Let us know what happens .

  10. SFS has a "city tax" and maybe from memory a separate tax on "environmental" as well. Even Americans when you speak to them about all this rubbish just put their heads down and start mumbling incoherently into their laps when you ask about it all. Looking around restaurant you see people with calculators working out the bill. While you are in DC visit the Smithsonian air and space museum, It's FREE and very very very good. I've also been to the Dulles museum as well and it's well worth the visit. Washington DC and Alexandria and Arlington are all must see places when in the USA. Richmond VA is also worth seeing if you're into Civil War history which I am. Phil

  12. I am English just booked two week holiday for the family in The United States. Fly London to Las Vegas, Las Vegas to Washington DC and then back to London. See Grand Canyon, Shenandoah National Park, Washington DC and Air Space Museum at Dulles. Family really exited, me still feeling queasy at the bill. Then I find out about Resort Charge. It is adding around 10% to an already dear trip. Travel agent had small print saying some hotels may charge pax. Had to google pax, took a while to sift out 'peace', 'passenger' but finally got there. We had already got our head around shops showing price without state tax and that we should tip for just about everything but that Resort Charge really got me. I have offloaded my annoyance onto the forum now, feel much better for that. Thank-you. Now my question, what other secret fees await me in the US?

  16. I suspect the ecu. W/the ecu harness disconnected , use the test light attached to B+ and test pin 24 and 23 to ground making sure the test light comes on . Then attach the test light to ground and check pin 26 for power w/ the key on . You want to test all powers and grounds before replacing the ecu . I use a Lisle 60630 relay test jumper to use on micro-relays. It speeds up this procedure ! Get one ,they are terrific

  17. Pin 19 to ground makes the relay switch and turns on the fuelpump. Starting to dread a failed ECU.. 😐 My compliments for your stellar support so far. This is incredibly helpfull, kudos mate.

  19. The other (yellow/red ) wire on relay #5 goes tot pin 19 of the ECU and the ECU grounds the yellow/red wire to energize the relay. With the key on , disconnect the ECU connector and ground pin 19 to see if things "come on" .

  20. Alright , now to test the portion of the relay that energizes the coil in the relay. One of the o.s. bottom terminals id grounded in the ECU (pin 19) and the other terminal is b+ supplied from relay # 4. Perform the same test to relay # 4 for b+ on the top pin and apply b+ to the second pin and see if it energizes relay # 5 . Relay # 4 is powered by F2 . 10a fuse.

  22. Plenty + tips, 15% minimum, 18% standard. We tried to get some visibility about these hidden fees but we had an election in Nov and that's just one on things we forgot about. I hope you get to see the Dead & Co in Vegas. I'm hopeful to take the 'vette on a road trip and do the same if my health allows it.

  23. I noticed that Hungarian hotels charge city taxes, tourist taxes, and GST, so the USA taxes are not that unusual. What bothered me in US (other than tipping) was the tax added at the till for small retail purchases. The tax varied by county, so it was hard to have exact change ready to pay. If I handed over a larger note, then by the end of the day I had a pocket full of useless little coins, and $1 notes.

  24. Just a wee clarification, if I may . . . Early V11 Sports do not suffer classic Startus Interuptus like the LeMans and later variants that send the start current through through the ignition switch and back to the starter solenoid. The early V11 does benefit from a robust (true high current) micro relays, especially in Position #1/start. As do all V11 Spine Frames benefit from the high current relays, just that the later variants need the extra start relay as Kiwi_Roy has described. IIRC, someone was making a kit for this. Was it "Eastern Beaver?"

  30. A little minor maintenance…decided to install new ignition coils…had them in the box for a year now…and since the tank was off…might as well. No difference vs the originals so that’s actually good! Ran a wire for my TomTom under the airbox to the battery since I had the tank off, I had an extra mount so now fully wired. Resealed the fuel sender unit at the tank with some Hylomar blue…no more leaks ( last leak was two years ago)…had some very minor drips over the last couple of weeks. Did a valve adjustment…a lot quieter…would like it quieter still but will run as is for now. Bike running beautifully…out for a ride with friend today…lent him my Griso.

  31. Remember the Window Tax? We've brought it back. Here's how I do it as an American; If they have given me individual service, I tip. 20% is standard anymore, 10% and a confused look with an accent gets you a pass on that. If it's breakfast, say $30, I often overtip. If it's an expensive meal, I tip 20%- but beware, some restaurants add an automatic tip, especially for large groups. If they add an automatic tip, I never pay more than that which seems normally about 15%. If the service is bad (because they know it's automatic) I have the tip removed at the register. I quit playing the 'sympathy for tip wage workers' a long time ago. Too many of them make it a game of guilt rather than service. Anything you buy to take home, get it at the duty-free airport stores if you can.

  32. This "safety washer"is what failed on my gearbox input hub. The hub would "walk off" and there would be no clutch engagement. Then spin back on like nothing had happened. Good to know these are standard industry items and the sockets are also available outside of "Moto Guzzi Special tools." Failed retention: Repurposed failed Safety Washer as sidestand index. Seems all bight-eyed and smiles there . . .
