  1. Ten days out to SSR XXI . . . mySport looks to be in parc fermé awaiting the joys and concerns of the challenge. Sure, the distances are not that great. Nor are the roads terribly compromised. Yet, the matters of accomplishing this sort of thing for the twenty-first consecutive time are not lost on my determination. As well as the determination of all SpineRaiders . . . Get There. Bring Tools.

  2. This is Gianfranco Guareschi's 2007 Daytona Battle of the Twins bike in his family's team colors, cant find a picture of the 2003 bike. I think the Coppa is patterned after them.

  3. . Howdy. Kathi and I are looking forward to SSR XXI despite our arriving in a car! Aside from still (begrudgingly) following doctor's orders -- effectively enforced by my better 2/3 -- after my hernia surgery, we are traveling before the 'raid. We leave this Friday for my 60th (gasp) high-school reunion, then visiting friends in Ellijay and my brother in Hiawassee before joining you all at the Lodge. Ah, but this is a notice of a nearby “opportunity” for SSR XXI attendees. [Note for mods. If this is “inappropriate” for here, no hurt feelings on my end … but that’s because I am an insensitive lout. Seriously, it’s not something I would likely put in the “classified” section. Inasmuch as it’s a way for interested “known folks" who happen to be nearby to see a motorcycle, the notice is intended for the usual suspects at SSR’s. ================= My brother, Michael, who is “retiring” from riding, is selling his 2016 Multistrada 1200, garaged — it’s never slept outdoors except on multi-day trips — in Hiawassee, Ga. Details, below, but wondering if any SSR folks might be interested in seeing this gem “in the flesh” while we are in Tellico Plains? Michael wants to avoid the hassle and time-wasters of an advertised sale, thus this is an opportunity to ride over to Hiawassee and see a moto-gem. Photos attached. Includes OEM side cases and top case, all with interior bags; tank bag; and Garmin GPS. More general info here: https://ducati-specs.com/models/ducati-multistrada-1200.html Mileage is 19,914. So basically 20,000 miles ... or c.2000 miles since the “big service" four years ago. That service included Multistrada Desmo Service $1,556.46; Hydraulic Flush $109.52; Chain and Sprockets $566.45; Tires $494.00; Labor: $1,202.50; Tax: $275.33; Total: $3,274.76. Michael has not thought too much yet about an asking price, but see FMV info here ... https://www.cycletrader.com/2016-Ducati-Multistrada/motorcycles-for-sale?make=Ducati%7C2316082&model=MULTISTRADA%7C764855672&year=2016 and here: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/what-is-the-fmv-of-a-base-mode-cAhK677XSsO0N1zGIjrJaQ. The roads over to Hiawassee are mighty fine — . But, if you’d prefer (and given the fickle weather forecast, you might!) Kathi and I are in a cage, so I can run you over to Michael’s place in our car. BTW, I have ridden this motorcycle. It’s a beauty and, for this Guzzista, intoxicatingly quick! Need/want more info? Ask me. See you next week! Bill My brother taking delivery … My own test ride. Yee ha! Always garaged; on BT routinely. As I said, "intoxicatingly quick!. OK ... not a traffic stop! The cop’s a Guzzista friend of mine. 😄 Edited to add that if you have any interest in my brother's Duc, that you not reply here, but send me a PM, email, text, or call Bill 4ZERO4-eightZEROeight-8FOUR86 wrhagan AT earthlinkDOTnet

  4. The Dutch journalist Paul van Hooff of Guzzi Galore V7 world trotting fame died of a heart attack on August 22, 2025 I’m absolutely gutted. 5. When I recently purchased my 2002 Tenni it was obvious I needed to touch up its paint job. The two areas of most significance was the tail piece and a very poorly right front fairing repair. For the tail I had FMF Coatings scan it and mix up the paint in an aerosol. They were unable to get a good match on the green but I found the Lechler code for it, GUZDS08047 and had Classic Car Paints Direct mix it up in an aerosol as well. Both UK firms by the way. I’m sure many of you are saying paint in an aerosol is no good but I beg to differ. It’s the same paint formula you would get in a tin of paint, it’s guaranteed to have no moisture and they spray nozzles are very good with no air pressure issues (I also paint with conventional spray gun equipment). In the following pictures the tail piece has been painted with the base silver, have the code for it if anyone wants it. Will apply the “Tenni” decals once they arrive from The Images Works decal makers . As these paints are both base coats will spray with matt lacquer top coat once the decals are applied. In thr picture of the right front fairing have removed the poorly applied top coat in preparation of final repair. Will post pictures of final repeats once completed. Interested in your comments as always

  6. Wheel bearings today. Rears were original, spacer was a bit short to make me happy with the new bearings, so tossed in a .75mm valve spring shim. Can move spacer slightly with fingers, pushing in on bearing races tightens spacer. Nice. Pic shown is an easy compare between spacer length and hub shoulder; the washer, when slid around on the spacer, just whisks the bearing shoulder. Needs a bit of clearance not to be tight when assembled. To measure, Phil's way, the spacer is about .005"-.010" short. About +.010" long with shim. The inside of the rear hub was just as nasty as the inside of the drive box, so the hub and spacer got a nice rubdown and again, cosmoline is your best friend. Front bearings, one had been replaced; buggers were TIGHT coming out so much I wondered if I misunderstood what was going on with the spacer. A little cleanup in the bores and a touch of cosmoline and the new ones went in... less tight. Much tighter than the rears.

  7. Searching, then, for images of Guareschi V11 entry in this race series for 2003 . . . "Gianfranco Guareschi on a V11 Scura (featuring a striking red livery;" Here is another 2003 article from Anima Gussista: http://archivio.animaguzzista.com/page_builder.php?filebody=saloni_eventi/C_I_Naked_2003/Misano/MisanoRace.htm&fileindex=saloni_eventi/C_I_Naked_2003/C_I_Naked_2003_index.txt

  8. Looks great so far and judging by your depth of research it will come out nice. I'm looking forward to the finished project. If you'd like I'll post your photos larger with my image host (ImgZeit) Just say the word and I'll pm my email address to you. I tried using the small ones but the low rez doesn't show well. I doubt they'll ship aerosol cans to the US. Maybe someone here can duplicate. Or I could find a smuggler.

  9. Very beautiful to read the (English translated) Anima Gizzista article by V. Fange and see the actual images of these SpineFrames competing in 2003 that inspired Moto Guzzi to produce the V11 Coppa Italia ! "Let me just say that seeing four latest-generation Guzzis lined up on the starting line of a national race made me feel like I was about to witness a major world-class event. The emotion had gripped me and showed no signs of letting up. " - V. Fange/ Anima Guzzista Here's one for @Pressureangle ! rider: Oscar Bacco

  14. Finally got a few miscellaneous parts and got it back together. Took her out for a test ride and she did great, just a quick ride around the neighborhood. The new shocks are nice, my front wheel seems good with the new spokes, she shifts smoothly and rides nice. I'm going to need the OEM style seat, this one has me a little too far forward. I changed the diff fluid, it was low, which probably explains the gear oil in the driveshaft housing. Any thoughts on what would cause that? I see a couple of orings in the parts diagram. Waiting on a new clutch cable, this one is adjusted all the way out. I'll post some good fall pictures in the coming months.

  15. Man, not much out there, but Success! As one might expect, the actual racebikes aren't as... finished... as a new Coppa Italia. http://archivio.animaguzzista.com/page_builder.php?fileindex=saloni_eventi/C_I_Naked_2002/C_I_Naked_2002_index.txt&filebody=saloni_eventi/C_I_Naked_2002/naked_gara3/gara_3/gara_3_body.htm

  16. Hint, next time you Google something, at the end of your request put "-AI" in the text. Just guessing, but the text looks like the typical AI write up that gets the basics mixed up but appears authoritative. I've gotten quite annoyed with hit and miss silly answers and trivia. AI doesn't "think" or "understand", it just sticks words together based on sorting algorithms and decision trees.

  17. @docc The promotional information came from motorcyclespecs.co.nz Coppa Italia specs just reference it as being a celebration of Moto Guzzi participation the Italian Naked Bike championship in 2003 The commune of Ballabio where the hill climbs were apparently held is about 6 km north west of Lecco, very handy and close to the Moto Guzzi factory.

  18. Revisiting this forum's kind and helpful advice. Just mounted mySport's 26th front tire and the left side bearing was declared "noisy." 65,000 miles since the Turkish SNF replacement at 60,000 miles seems proper. For the V11 whose front axle shoulders on the right (20mm ID) bearing and the spacer extends through the left (larger, 25mm ID) bearing with the chromed sleeve fitted to index the inside of the left fork leg, the bearings are actually straightforward to remove . . . The spacer has an internal shoulder against the inside of the left side bearing inner race and can be used to drift our the right side bearing with a soft hammer, brass or copper or a soft drift. Once the right side bearing drops out , the spacer can be removed and the left bearing easily drifted out from inside the hub.

  19. As suggested, I tried Volvo Part 946703 ball socket on the RH throttle body. This Volvo Part fits perfectly just as the Mercedes part 0009930461 does. I used the Volvo part instead of the Mercedes part, as it is plastic, and has a groove in it which can retain grease, and catch grit. I now have a spare Mercedes rod end to give away if anyone wants it. PM me. Then I made a brass bush for LH throttle lever connection to the link rod. The brass insert in the LH throttle body arm was worn enough that the LH throttle opened before the RH throttle and TPS began to move. I bored the brass insert to take a thin wall brass bush made from a section from an old telescopic radio antenna. Now that there is no noticable play in either the LH link or the RH ball & socket, I expect synchronizing will be easier at both idle and higher RPM. Ta, Marty.
