    Zinc chromate

My, my . . . the 100k refresh . . . that is, perhaps, another matter entirely . . . So many people have asked me, "What are you going to do to the Sport at 100,000 miles? Complete tear-down? Heads? Clutch? Pistons? Drive shaft?" In all honesty? It needs the regularly scheduled 6,000 mile/ 10.000km tune up (I'm on "Step One" of the Decent Tune-Up). At 5,943 miles the plugs looked rough enough that I think 4,000 is a better interval. I found no combustion "soot" around the top of the exhaust valves/guides. The right side valves were spot-on, and left needed 0.002" adjustment (with my *new* kewl valve adjustment tool). I thought about replacing the original valve cover gaskets. But cleaned them instead. Maybe I ought to replace the original sump gasket? That is a cool tool. I had a heck of a time keeping the gaps stable while buttoning things up. Thanks for posting.

    Brand-new Scura

    Looks great!!
  4. +1 on corrosion and/or contact issues playing a role. Had an issue with the charging circuit on a JD 2305 tractor. Turned out the connector between the voltage regulator and main wiring harness were so gunked up, the regulator's positive DC out wires at the connector fused open on both sides.
  5. Scud's right, one of the better investments I've made for this purpose http://www.motionpro.com/product/08-0143
  6. Another pan dropper here. I won't mess with the manhole cover..and that's before I heard anything about O-ring growth! Good luck.
  7. Valve adjustment with a side of silicone gaskets. A 10-15 in-lb torque requirement from the gasket manufacturer was....interesting...as was the discovery..on the last bolt during reinstallation....that one silicone chad didn't get punched out. Found the LH side mid-tank fairing fastener had worn thru the paint. I'll see how some gorilla tape survives.....
  8. Congrats! Nice score. What a fun trip.
  9. Thanks for posting.
  10. Expanding her living room.
  11. FWIW, I didn't have to knock off those captive fasteners which are part of the bike's rear bracket supporting the mudguard, license plate frame, etc. It was helpful to take the HB bolts and take advantage of the captive fasteners to make a cross brace/rear bracket "assembly" and then use the HB nuts to fasten it to the bike's frame. With everything loosely attached (rotated Ti exhaust, stock passenger brackets, both side brackets for the HB bags, turn signal relocation bar) everything lines up!
  12. Sure, if you've got some time, I'd be interested in cross brace pics and its orientation. Does the "open" side of the L shape that attaches to the existing bracket face forward or backward? It appears to me it can go either way. Email is leroysch@aol.com if you run into posting problems. Thanks!
  13. Spent an embarrassingly long time trying to figure out where the cross brace on the HB attaches to the frame. Still not sure what direction it needs to "point", guess there's a 50-50 chance I'll be right the first time. Thought I'd never get one of the pipes between the cross-over and Ti can to loosen. Amazed me what a few drops of 3 in 1 oil and a few gentle mallet taps did. Went from not budging to sliding right off in a minute or so. Note to self: don't forget the anti-seize!
  14. Oil change...and thank goodness I didn't have a 27mm anything to remove the access plate. Had a heck of a time getting the oil filter it to budge as it hung there in all its glory after removing the lower sump!
  15. Looks like a Guzzi meet up in Huntsville Ark at the Withrow Springs State park this weekend. http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=81997.0 I am on the fence but if I go I'll stay in the motel (don't feel like camping). It's 300 mile trip for me. In fact Dusty (Cedar Vale fame) is putting this weekend campout together. I'm usually at Cedar Vale, we also do a meet up in Springfield (MO) to ride the Springfield (IL) Mile. I've done the Undercliff at Tipton Ford too but it's a long ways for a lunch ride. I usually make a trip or two to the Ozarks every year. I'd like to ride your 100 mile loop. Perhaps I'll see you soon? Saw that. Going to get the V11 safety inspected tomorrow and head down that way to say hello. Looking forward to meeting you at CV. I'll be the sissy looking for lodging thereabouts.....
  16. Hi John- Yes, I'm in Neosho north of town out in the sticks. I met someone from WG at the Undercliff (Tipton Ford, closed and for sale BTW) early last year. I was on the Duck, and the gentleman I was talking to was on a..well...delightfully ratty MG. No, I haven't met the "local" gang yet...just acquired the MG at the end of last summer. I am planning on heading up to Cedar Vale in April but if you're around/about the area I've got a 100 mile loop which always makes me smile no matter what I'm riding. Spare bedroom/bath too for logistical support. 417-434-0867 LeRoy S.
  17. 100 mile romp thru SW Missouri ending with a cold one on the porch of the local pub overlooking the creek in the surprisingly warm February sunshine. Life's good.
  18. A. Learned the MG can stay off the battery tender longer than the Duck and Buell and start with no problems. B. Subsequent ride cut short when the fastener holding the bracket holding the front brake master cylinder went MIA. Shouldn't have worn an HD tee I guess.......
  19. Piques my interest, not in purchasing but whether 1.) the front suspension would be a direct replacement for the stock suspension on an '04 V11 LeMans and 2.) the interface plate on the luggage rack...manufacturer?
  20. Another shop "adventure"....mine's arriving Tuesday!
  21. I did put up a bit of a fight. Noticed the big markdowns on Buell's going while going in to the dealership to buy some Street Glide parts in 2009. I guess my "Hmmm...." must have been audible, cuz the salesman called the next day offering to take another grand off the price! Understand about the priority thing.....
  22. Yes it is, which got my attention when the 1125's first came out. Figured it took some balls to outsource the motor while Buell was part of HD. When they had the fire sale on Buell's after HD decided to shut it down...I couldn't resist.
  23. Looked at it longingly as I was continuing to re-assemble the Buell. It's an '09 which have a penchant to burn up stators. I'm now on number 3 in 12000 miles. Luckily I acquired a rotor mod from Eric Buell Racing before they closed with an EDM'd hole to increase oil flow/cooling. That, along with a stator from Rick's Electric (and some fingers crossed for luck) should get this beast mobile once more.
  24. Oh great...now I have to find more wall space in the shop...! Thanks!!!
