  1. So here's my first "fly and drive". My first Vette was an 86 coupe, red, auto. Nice car. Bought it in NC when I lived there for a couple years and drove it out here to Oregon with a U-Haul trailer behind it... Sold the 86 and then after not long I started looking for a late C4, yellow, 6-speed convertible. They didn't make a lot of those so it took a while. Finally found one in Muskegon, Michigan. Luckily a guy I knew on the Corvette forum lived close by and he looked it over for me. I flew out to Grand Rapids and he picked me up in his 86 convertible, When I got there the car was still in the shop getting the clutch replaced. So I had to wait around for the car to show up. It wasn't long. Did the paperwork and jumped in the car and took off. Now this was 14 years ago so pre-Google Maps, so I was navigating with paper maps, at one point I must have taken a wrong turn and must have been headed into Chicago. I'm headed into a less desirable area of Chicago in a bright yellow convertible Corvette, desperately looking for somewhere to turn around. Finally found an exit and made the appropriate directional change post haste. I made it to Nebraska to visit the relatives there. That night the tornados came though the area, we stuffed as many cars into the garage as possible, luckily mine made the cut. Then hunkered down in the basement. No direct hits but any vehicle outside was pummeled with hail... Luckily the rest of the drive was less eventful! Now the car mostly sits in the garage, the old engine (130k miles) leaks a lot of oil. This winter I replaced the intake manifold gasket, and that helped some but there are more leaks. But I spend any free time I have on the bikes so it will have to wait. My wife and I drove to LA and then Vegas in the car to get married so there's some emotional attachment. But that's another story.
  2. No one here cares about old cars...
  3. Yeah, I'll probably leave it alone. Unless I have to get black gauges. So far the only thing that doesn't work is the trip odo reset. Not even sure how it's suppose to work.
  4. Too be fair you are rockin' the beer holder.
  5. It helps to have a cute redhead with a truck help deliver the lift. The wife, on the other hand, was not amused. Based on the wisdom over on ADV the first thing I did was toss the wheel clamp and bolted on the HF wheel chock. It's adjustable so it securely fits a wide variety of bikes. With the chock you can roll the bike on by yourself and it will stand securely. You can then attached the tiedowns for added security at your leisure. I too was one of those people who couldn't understand how I went so long without a proper lift. Previously I had a homemade stand, which worked pretty good but I was limited by how big of a bike I could roll up the ramp to it. 200lb Bultaco? Not a problem, 400lb Norton, not as fun. http://www.harborfreight.com/1800-lb-capacity-motorcycle-standwheel-chock-61670.html At around $60 give or take (be sure to use coupons!) it's a huge relief to have the bike held very securely.
  6. Yeah, I just read that. I'm concerned with the linkage, need to post a video of it. Youngest has the stomach flu, just up in the middle of the night waiting of the next episode.
  7. And then what? So you attached the mount to the chrome nut, reinstalled the chrome nut and tightened it by hand and then? How tight is the chrome nut suppose to be?
  8. This is my first bike with a hydraulic clutch and I expected a super light lever feel. This is not the case, while it's better than the 850-T, which probably has a worn out clutch and a very stiff clutch, it nothing like my Commando that has a one finger cable clutch. Why more manufacturers didn't use a diaphragm clutch spring is beyond me. Ok, so how heavy should the pull be? I current don't have an accurate why to measure it. Second, I'm having occasional issues getting into First from neutral. Releasing the clutch lever a little helps as does stomping firmly down on the shift lever. Otherwise it shifts pretty good. I think I found a false neutral once. Any tips?
  9. Photoshop. Faster and cheaper. I thought I saw a picture of a silver dash w/ black dash light panel. I need to go look again.
  10. I'll take 100% of the blame for this one. And the next one...
  11. Did you get a final drawing from him of the part? Like I said earlier at some point they may become unavailable from Don and someone will have to do it again.
  12. https://www.amazon.com/Bikemaster-Heated-Grips-Switch-Am19012h/dp/B00NYBZ4CQ/ref=pd_sbs_263_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00NYBZ4CQ&pd_rd_r=RDKJD20CMMAQC6QRVATV&pd_rd_w=7HZ4o&pd_rd_wg=8ClVD&psc=1&refRID=RDKJD20CMMAQC6QRVATV I can't say enough about these Bikemaster Heated Grips. I had the previous generation (no LCD controller, just LED lights) on my Triumph and I also put them on my 850-T. They are super simple to install, and more importantly they work great! The best part of all... the price. Phenomenally low price for something that works this well! Why heated grips? Just a little warmth on a cool day goes a long way. While they won't heat your hands up on a frigid sub-freezing, high speed ride, they will take the edge off. Here in the PNW, we have more cool days than warm days, and even on some warm days there are cool evenings. And for this price you can't go wrong. Throw in a free volt meter? Shut up! Needless to say, they will be going on my V11.
  13. So if you pre-sell more frame re-enforcement plates does the price go down?
  14. Well now, working on the bike I hit the switch and no fuel pump. Yep, that Bosch relay. I had a spare offa the EV after I replaced them all with Pyro Dan's stuff for about $25 (it's another trouble shooter story, not to bore you) and the bike started fine. So I go to the auto parts store to get a new relay and it was $20 for one and it was made in Ghina . I guess I'll order a whole 'nother set from Dan-o. I don't know what I did with the other relays offa the EV. ?? .. Prolly trashed 'em It was about $20 for five of them from DigiKey... the good ones.
  15. Not anxious. Do you mind taking some more pictures of your multicolor dash when you have some time? I think you just have the one in the other thread you mentioned. Thanks!
  16. He paid $5k, not the ebay price, if I understand it correctly. It sounds like the dealer snapped it up from eBay for $3700 and resold it to Shiny Mike for $5k.
  17. I saw the one picture. What do you think, do you like the contrast?
  18. Unfortunately not. The hex on my lock nut is only big enough to pass the brass nyloc nut with the kit and not the pocket washer. Maybe they made the hex hole bigger in 2002? Seems weird but hey... Guzzi!
  19. What did I do wrong or different from you?
  20. That's so... practical. I'm going to see if I can use one of the screws that hold on the instrument panel, that might work.
  21. I think the later bikes (Scura on?) have an all black dash? Or black and carbon, or something? Has anyone painted the earlier dash light section darker? I was thinking the crinkle paint like on LM1 top forks, or maybe the instrument panel on the 850-T? It might also make it easier to see the warning lights.
  22. Do I get extra points because that building behind it houses the Spruce Goose? Get it, Goose! You get a Goose IPA. Must be present to win. So the Spruce Goose in Oregon now? I saw it when it was in Long Beach Harbor, next to the Queen Mary. Yup. They weren't taking care of it down there so it's up here now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
