SAE fork oil "weights" are a broad range of actual viscosity. Some maker's 7wt overlaps others 10wt or 5wt. The early V11 Marzocchi forks typically work better with lighter oils. I settled on (one of the) BelRay 5wt (YMMV!) by using Peter Verdone's conversion chart to centiStokes (cST), a much more accurate unit to assess viscosity. http://www.peterverdone.com/archive/lowspeed.htm http://www.peterverdone.com/archive/images/content/motorcycle/PVD-ISO-Viscosity-Data.gif

Did you know what is the hidden meaning of Griso? no, not the obvious one!

Crankcase vent. The factory set up had a tendency to haze the air filter with the oil mist. Plus, this is more akin to the classic BritBike style venting of a hose routed back over the fender, albeit with the little filter added for dash. -

There is the matter of naming our rides, even when the manufacturer is clueless . . . -

My Honda GB500 clearly says "Tourist Trophy " on the side covers, but no one calls them that. Instead, invoking the alphanumeric "GB500" (which is not depicted on the motorcycle anywhere). I am not one adept at naming my own machines, but this one rather earned her own (from the Honda marketing slogan of those days . . . > RIDE RED < -
Well, once "betting" enters the equation, all matters of "sport" are off . . .

That. There have so many attempts to define "THAT." Somehow, "fun" just does not entirely translate the fullness of the experience. "Welcome home, dear! Did you experience that surreal , uplifting, transcendental, existential experience on your ride ? " "Why, yes, darling, the ride was fun . . ." "Did you cheat death with your awareness and skillset, mastering the physical realm with intensity and purpose ?" "Yes, yes. Quite fun, actually."
-
Very interesting. So many times returning from a ride, I have been asked if I "had fun." I never know what to say. I don't ride for "fun."

Beautiful, @Bingbong! Thank you for your terrific reply and photo of your Coppa Italia in its natural habitat! @LaGrasta is in good hands. @JBastida stops in with us from near Madrid from time to time. Perhaps he will se this notification and chime in . . .

Rather than the TPS (on the right side throttle body, which cannot leak oil), do you mean the cam/timing/phase sensor on the left, ahead of the cylinder, @Randy?
-
@Drahchir, if the leak is on the left a common source is the crank position sensor. This is the sensor in front of the cylinder with the two hex drive fasteners. Sometimes, just snugging up the fasteners is enough to address the leak. Otherwise, it uses a small Viton O-ring (#112 SAE or metric equivalent). Be mindful of the thin spacer as it indexes the cam timing. These sensors might also leak through the wiring leading me to coat mine in JB Weld epoxy many years ago.

Yeah, my man, let's start a new thread for you in Technical Topics and get to the bottom of your issue Is the leak on the right or left?

I do not remember her from the sixties. Of course, I turned ten years old in 1967 and was only just beginning to get interested in these "sorts of things." -
It occurred to me to point out there are two angle drive, the other being attached to the speedometer end. It is usually not the trouble that the gearbox one is, but is worth inspecting.

My Speedhut are at 31,380 miles, 7 1/2 years, and have outlasted all of my efforts to keep three Veglia speedos (and numerous angle drives) in the game . . .

So, the metal disc had dislodged causing the gears to mis-mesh?

@Bingbong and his Coppa Italia are on the Portuguese coast . . .
