  1. Agree Docc, those Indian (and Victory) motors just get fun when the rev limiters kick in. Maddening. The cruiser riding position pretty extreme too. I think the Cal 14 just about nails it for big twin tourer. The only negative, I think the riding position should be a little more upright like my EV. They've proven to be pretty reliable bikes so far- other than a few broken crossovers.
  2. I agree with you. A Guzzi motor is a revver not a puller. The sweet spot is over 4k rpms. My EV doesn't go into 5th gear until 80 mph. I think twins have a limited power range compared to my 4 cyl bike. You can give a twin top end power, mid range or bottom end torque but you can only do one. My 4 cyl bike can do all or at least two of three.
  3. or said another way...all things equal, a 2.0 liter engine will give you the same power at 6k rpms that a 4.0 liter engine will give at 3k. One doing it with horsepower and the other with torque.
  4. Torque = 5252 X Horsepower / RPM Horsepower = Torque X RPM / 5252 essentially HP is power measured over 5252 rpm and TQ is power measured below 5252 rpm..... the values are equal at 5252 rpm
  5. Vintage Flat Track at the Fairgrounds? They cancelled the AMA Mile because of the fair but rescheduled Vintage races? WTH?
  6. I was a member. Didn't get much out of it but wanted the tow service when I purchased my RV. I see nothing wrong with anyone buying E85 if they want it. I'd like to see legal lane splitting (filtering through traffic). Neither AMA nor ABATE do anything for that. If AMA did much about riders' rights, I might consider it again. AMA seems big on off roaders use of public land, I am not competent to know anything about that. AMA sanctions racing, which has largely been a disaster. If joining AMA would improve racing I might consider it.

  8. If you can't make it all the way to Telico Planes and are in the center of the country:Our friend Gary Scott is honchoing up a Campout at Canton Lake the second weekend of September (11-13). Its a come as you are, not-a-rally, campout. Just show up and camp. Canton Lake is 100 miles NW of Okla City, 150 miles west of Tulsa, and 165 miles SW of Wichita. The lake has been replenished with the rain, the water is blue and beaches are sandy. September should have cooler air, sunny skies and warm water. The campsites are first rate with grass and shade, paved pad, grills and close to showers. The lake is 1 - 1 hour ride from Roman Nose St Park, Gloss Mountains St Park, Alabaster Caverns St Park, Little Sahara St Park, and Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge. This is western Okla, so no promises for challenging roads (but Thunder Road around the lake has a couple of miles of twists). Heres the skinny Gary Scott First Annual Camp Out (NAR) 11-13 September 2015 Canton Lake Okla, Canadian Recreation Area Call 877-444-6777 for reservations; book campsites B32-B42 http://www.recreation.gov/camping/map_of_Canadian/r/campgroundMap.do?page=map&search=site&contractCode=NRSO&parkId=73110 Hope to see you there.
  9. You can order a new spring from Harper's for just a few bucks. I keep one in my tank bag when I am on the road (not that I could install it on my own but at least I have the part).
  10. I had paid moves by my employer. They hired packers and movers. The mover gave me instructions regarding the motorcycle, which was no instructions for two and one wanted me to drain the gas. I had three moves ranging from 1500 miles to 500 miles. I had minor damage on one of them when they packed some soft gear on my bike. It was heavy and broke a couple of plastic screws on the windhsield. The guy gave me a $20 bill if I wouldn't file a claim.
  11. moving companies will move motorcycles, lawn mowers, etc. Usually, you have to drain the gas. I recommend door to door for motorcycles vs putting them in storage. I've had it done three times.
  12. uhhmma I dunno. but what's the verdict on the underside exhaust? It looks cool, I got the impression that it doesn't perform and doesn't last.
  13. Perhaps you can find a good local bike mechanic? There should be a few good ones in your part of the country. I've got a couple of "go to guys" in Okla City (and the nearest dealer is 100 miles away and am not sure they know anything about legacy bikes). last year I was in the area and drove by this shop. I have no idea if they are good. http://europeancycleservices.com/ or take a look here http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=31382.0
  14. easy check: make sure fuses aren't corroded.
  15. You might check if the Dunlops are still discounted.
  16. Clutch not fully disengaging: Low on fluid, flex/soft hose, leaky master cylinder, obstructed mechanism are likely culprits. You said a mechanic checked this all as good? Hmmm. Obviously, it's disengaging, just not 100% and it's creeping when stopped. What is "good pressure"? Is it pushing the right distance? Could you have good pressure in cylinder and have a soft brake line? It sounds like it's only slightly out of range. You're saying that if the factory installed the clutch backwards it would display this issue ten years later? Wow, dunno. I'd concentrate on the hydraulic system first. (BTW- if you post this thread on Wild Guzzi and you can bet someone will offer you $500 to take this terrible bike off your hands)
  17. it was good. I'd say spiciness and doneness was perfect, juicy & tender; might use a little more smoke. Friday I picked up some St Louis cut ribs from a stand from one of the weekly winners on Pittmasters' show. I was disappointed, almost tasted baked.
  18. have some country style (not) ribs on the grill. Smoked them for a couple of hours w/BBQ rub. Wrapped them and should be done in another hour. Never know about that pork, it could dry out, baked on some BBQ sauce with some coffee in the wrap. Corn and garlic wrapped in foil cooking too. damn hot out. 94 with a dew point of 74. I can't wait to get to Colorado for a couple of weeks. As soon as my wife is well. Inside watching women's WC.
  19. replaced the Angel & PR with a new set of Dunlop Roadsmart Qualifiers.
  20. Motorcycle gloves? Wear them. The oil will be absorbed or dissipated by the wind, heat and rain.
