  1. As the Chuck re-engineered spring was put on a test bed & run for thousands of cycles, I don't think you can compare the testing of the springs & lump them in the same category.
  2. Which Griso engine are you looking at ?
  3. Good. Just didn't want this community spirited improvement to leave a sour taste in your mouth or Chuck's. To quote Mr Hagan; 'Proud member of Moto Guzzi's envy-of-the industry post-sale R&D program!' Happy New Year all ! Snowed in ? Yeah. Spent 5 hours snowblowing the drive & elderly retired neighbors drives. My Christmas good deed to compensate for them putting up with my Hillbilly ways
  4. Scud, Rather than have you carry the full cost of this R & D and then the expense of the limited run of springs, I for one am quite happy to order a few springs, whether I need more than one or not. Which would be all I can offer as my 'testing grounds' are not available at the moment.
  5. I hadn't realised but that is the Ghezzi Brian Sport Monza set up. Thanks for the pointer.
  6. Now this one I like Still haven't found a girl to go with it though
  7. In school I had a best mate who was working weekends & with the money getting his pilots license. The summer when he had to log hundreds of hours I’d tag along. A great experience! Didn’t realize how lucky I was...
  8. That is true of many skills we practise. Hours & hours of practise will teach you how manipulate the tool or tools but there comes that point when you face that self-imposed question of if you have 'talent'. Many of us have had perfectly good careers being competant 'mechanics'. I have had the humbling oppertunity to meet & work around some of my woodworking Gurus when I was in college & shortly after & knowing when you can't match that standard & talent becomes liberating. Knowing you can't reach that high. As a woodworker, metal work is fascinating. Nothing I work with responds well to being beaten with a hammer ! To compress & expand the metal to get it to curve on a wheel. Amazing ! Then to be able to polish that dinted & dented sheet till its so smooth. Gobsmacked ! In the video he visits the 'Guzzi Doctor' who from his website is based in Chicago. Does this mean this Auzzie is also from there ? Does anyone know him, is he show at any shows?
  9. Footgoose, thanks for posting that video. I'm always fascinated by metalwork like that, but end up with questions; What gauge sheet metal was he forming ? Was that aluminium ? Was he TIG welding ? I need to find a shop class
  10. As a point of reference I found a used Ohlins shock from a Rsv4 for $320- & had Ohlins USA re condition it for $300. So total of $620- which is to go on my Griso as that shock is beaten to death. Last night I looked up the Wilbers, as many seem to like them for their quality & performance over the Ohlins, the base price unit I saw was $811. With a remote reservoir. Which would definately make me consider that for my V11. Still trying to get a sense of the options for the forks though.
  11. I had a long chat with the Ohlins guys at a trade show earlier this year & a comment he made about one of the difficulties with upgrading forks was that the fork lowers with the brake attachment castings were so often unique to each machine. That's why I was wondering about changing the internals & how simple or not that was. I keep my eye out for the Ohlins from a Cafe Sport or Scura but by the time you've then had them re-valved the pennies start to add up. With many of the Ducati Monsters & various Aprilia's models sporting Ohlins, even OEM grade, I would have thought someone with more of a machining ability & knowledge than myself would have grafted one onto a V11 Sport. But I haven't had much success finding any information.
  12. Guys, Looking at the Ohlins USA website they list cartridges of various diameters. What would fit in the 43mm Marzocchi's ? Lucky Phil, for someone who rides on the street with the occasional track day what would you consider a product to look at, not just limiting the choice to Ohlins. As Wilbers don't make forks as far as I can tell.
  13. Roy, I'm going to ask a naive question because well I'm naive. Should I scrape the terminals, apply vaseline & then reconnect the wires. Or scrape terminals, reconnect the wires & the apply vaseline ? My thought is that the vaseline is an insulator. Thanks Innocent of Columbus
  14. From what I remember of my Greek mythology those who answered the Siren's call ended up dead !
  15. The auction house said it sold for $8500, but not who to.
  16. My question was not about when he was going to but was he going to. Chuck approaches these tasks with such a professionalism that I can’t help but grin about how he tackles the problems that We encourage him into. I enjoy learning from the man and his well documented tinkering. Thanks !
  17. I doubt it will need stress relief. Most springs aren't. We'll find out after a few 10s of thousands shifts., *assuming* the gearbox of my little low speed motor holds up. Chuck, Did you rig up a test bed motor that will operate the gearshift some 10s of thousands of times to test the new spring ?
  18. They are very different motorcycles. Both are fun, but they arrive at this fun from opposite directions. The V11 is a very sharp edged bike that is surprisingly comfortable and the Griso is a very comfortable motorcycle that is surprisingly good in the twisties. I like that. I have both & still have trouble deciding which I like better & why. The one I'm on at the time is the one that's normally my favorite.
  19. I had the impression that Larry Klein was a bit of a hoarder. The impetus to move the bikes & magazines & books was overwhelmed by the joy of collecting them !
  20. I just came across a neglected Nero Corsa, which was why I didn’t get anything at the auction. Fingers crossed
  21. The black 1997 1100 Sport, 776 miles $5000 The red 1995 1100 Sport , 436 miles, no cylinder heads $2250
