I’m guessing that the MG bags might be hard to find. Has anyone had good results with the Cortech strap tank bags? They look like decent bags at a good price, but I have not tried one. In addition to the compatibility of the strap system, I wonder how generous the map window is. I too prefer to look at a paper map in a window rather than a screen. Seeing how easy an inch on a map looks, rather than seeing too much detail on a screen, yields unanticipated adventures and challenges. Isn’t that the point?

I have the factory strap on tank bag for my V11. I put some black electrical tape under the straps to keep them from abrading the tank. Works OK. Thanks everyone for the feedback on the tank bags. I appreciate it.

I tried to post some pictures but they were all too big to upload. 04 Le Mans; under 4000 miles, red, FBF pistons, cam and slip ons, belly pan, just serviced, new map. $7000 I might be able to post a start-up on Youtube tomorrow.

Lesson learned go to baseline before guess diagnosing. I was convinced the idle issue was related to the regulator or a fuel problem so after rechecking regulator connections and testing charging voltage I wasted $55 on a fuel pump and had same issue. I didn't want to set TPS cause I didn't want to spend $30 on a harness. I didn't want to balance throttle bodies because I didn't want to spend $100 on a synchronizer or build one. Bought testing gear and and set TPS to 157 and balanced throttle bodies and voila, idles perfectly. Fuel pump is money down the drain but I have the testing tools for later. I guess being stubborn and hard headed and a tightwad just doesn't pay in the end. Cant ride yet because forks are out for rebuild but hopefully case closed on this one.

Took the “grape ape” V11 for its annual MOT roadworthyness test today. A pass so it’s back on the road after the winter hibernation. Oil & filter changed, but it needs a good tune up,

When installing on my HiCam I used a 32mm extra deep 6 point impact socket. I didn't use the rattle gun on the nut but I preferred the 6 point impact as it would give the best fit as I knew it'd be on pretty tight They aren't exactly cheap but can be found at less than an arm and a leg. If you weren't on the wrong side of the pond to me I'd have popped mine in the post to you Check E-Bay (or wherever) for Extra Deep 32mm socket, then measure up to be sure, but these sockets are available and do the job Perhaps Phil has another solution John

Phil, I only quoted you to catch your attention because you have done this and know what you are doing. I am still hoping someone has the torque specs for the cam shaft nut and the crank shaft nut. But after taking it apart I am realizing I don't have a tool that can reach the crank shaft nut. What did you, or anyone else, use to remove that nut and reinstall it on the gear? That is a long reach for a 32mm / inch and a quarter nut. My normal deep sockets won't reach that far. I will look to see what I can find for sale, but I wonder if there is a special tool required for that nut. I could possibly make a special tool if required, but looking for input from you and others. Thanks in advance. Michael

The correct answer here is that the washer behind the bearing race has room to push the race out enough to catch the inside edge with a driver, and carefully drive it out from the inside. Use a soft punch or brass drift to move the (hopefully hardened) washer towards the outside, then move the washer aside to have just enough race to catch with a drift, which needs a good edge. Easy peasy. A proper blind puller on a slide hammer would make short work of it. Wish I'd known before I added some dimples to the outside race edge of the housing.

AFAIK the mandatroy intallation of speed limiters, currently doesn't apply to motorcycles. As @footgoose states though it's on the way, for sure. Not saying the world is going to remain static with regards to motorcycles but I live with the electric scooter and public electric pushbike bullshit in my city. Electric pushbikes available to the public to rent and transit to wherever they want is a total failure with bikes dumped anywhere and the helmets they come with littering the streets. So many dickheads here it's pointless. Personally I believe the future will be a mix of ICE and EV's. Porsche is already building a synthetic fuel manufacturing facility as we speak. Currently there is a thread on wild Guzzi asking what you'd ride if you couldn't ride a Guzzi and nobody has mentioned wanting an EV, even the EV fanboys that jumped on the woke train 6 months ago. Personally I'm a recalcitrant and will not succeed to the big brother mentality which I already do. Ciao

Possibly I have a different world view than you. It's evident that AV trucks and personal vehicles have a foothold on society. Now scooters. Soon, every g-d thing a human can operate. I'm just providing a 2 day old article showing evidence that the camel has his nose under the edge of the tent. Soon the camel will be inside the tent. I think motorcycles will likely be among the last mode to suffer the really serious AV or green bullshit mandates. People have to get around, and much of the world's population travels by scooter (actual scooters not those hipster child sidewalk scooters) so we have some time. But time will tell. Since the beginning of motorcycling, our lifestyle/choice has been a clear reflection of individualism. Rugged individualism (Yes I said it). Some embrace it. Others, sorry to say, don't give a hoot about how much fun we have, and will eventually be coming for us, for our own good of course. I'm surprised you don't make the connection to the future of motorcycles. They've been telling us the plan for a long time and I just see this as them slowly doing it. The Bitubo on my '97 Sport came to me mostly empty and weepy. I opened it, drained it, rinsed it out with fork oil and filled with 10 weight fork oil, carefully stroking it and then overfilling and capping it sloppily to be sure no air remained in it. 15,000 miles later- 38k or so total- it performs flawlessly, with no sticky or neutral spots, nor surprisingly any leaks. Unexpected but I'll take it.

"Decent Tune-up" to the rescue, once again! And there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a spare fuel pump.

You know, I am just grateful Guzzi built the V11 LeMans. I guess I'm a knuckle-dragging cave dwelling ape, but I think every car and motorcycle I will ever own has already been built. I just can't get worked up with anticipation over TFT screens, ABS, TC, quick shifters, heated grips, GPS, Bluetooth, etc. I'm glad I got a V11 so I can experience and preserve the classic air-cooled Guzzi V Twin experience for myself moving forward into the impending dystopian, anti-DIY hell... EFI? 6 speed gearbox? Digital ignition system? Analog gauges? No tubes in my tires? That's as new as I will tolerate. I can hardly accept water-cooled engines. I am a dinosaur. Rawr.
