  1. Update on these retention washers and special nuts, courtesy of @pete roper:
  2. This "safety washer"is what failed on my gearbox input hub. The hub would "walk off" and there would be no clutch engagement. Then spin back on like nothing had happened. Good to know these are standard industry items and the sockets are also available outside of "Moto Guzzi Special tools." Failed retention: Repurposed failed Safety Washer as sidestand index. Seems all bight-eyed and smiles there . . .
  3. Are we, actually, "that guy " . . .
  4. This is first I have heard that the lock nuts and "safety washers" are SKF items. Thank you, Pete! Long time since hearing from @Rolf Halvorsen. Wishing him the best.
  5. Pretty sure you have done this already, but I just scrolled ten pages of US eBay and don't see any.
  6. Cymru Comrade in Chief @Baldini last visited about a year ago. Maybe this will bring the good man around!
  7. Can't wait to see this year's pictures of the reverie! Thanks for keeping us in the loop @belfastguzzi! I count about twenty members in Cymru, but don't see anyone very active here.
  8. AGM (absorbed glass mat) is a type of VRLA (vave regulated lead acid) battery which our OEM "Spark 500"/ Hawker Odyssey PC545 is a unique example. My other (Deka) AGM batteries are not as demanding regarding charge voltage and amperage, but they don't last and perform like the Odyssey, either. I once bought a charger with an AGM function, but the voltage did not check out (not high enough) in the float ("trickle") mode and I returned it. Odyssey publishes a list of approved chargers. For those of us still using the Hawker Odyssey, "three things":
  9. I asked mySport what she thought of this "soul" business. We had quite a session over the matter and agreed to come back to it along the creeks and over the ridges with her song echoing off the bluffs and streams.
  10. Here is the Kiwi_Roy diagram of the R/R. If one applies current to the red wire, from the battery side aka external charging, and the regulator is grounded, will that current "do" anything inside the regulator or simply not cross diodes 4 and 5? Could those (or the other) diodes get damaged applying that current backward into the R/R? @MartyNZ had stated that a problem might be related to the charging pulses from charges that use a "desulfation" mode . . .
  11. Unlikely, as the R/R requires a voltage reference to function and that is switched through Relay #2.
  12. The charging wire to the battery positive from the regulator, through our nefarious 30 amp Fuse #3, is continuous and not switched. Neither is the grounding side switched, not the weedy factory ground through the harness nor any (recommended) additional ground from the regulator case to the timing chest/engine.
  13. Some excellent commentary from @MartyNZ in this thread, along with emphasis on using the correct charger . . .
  14. There has been some extensive discussion of this matter here. At one time, there was an opinion from one of the regulator/rectifier suppliers to disconnect the battery when charging from an external source. Subsequent discussion from some knowledgeable members refuted this based upon the presence of diodes in the regulator/rectifier stating that it is fine to charge the battery without disconnecting. Since I have a "service switch" as part of the 30 amp circuit breaker set-up, I always disconnect when charging because 1) it's easy for me, and 2) isn't it the diodes that are at risk of damage in the R/R to begin with?

Yes. The V11 Sport, in black, was shown at EICMA November 1997 with first production late 1999 while Moto Guzzi was still under ownership of the Trident Rowan Group (reportedly 1996-1999, yet some sources say Finprogetti took over ownership from DeTomaso as early as 1994). Very interesting to note the original V11 Sport was "drawn in one night" by one designer, Luciano Marabese, who had a close relationship with Ivano Beggio. It is conjecture, only, that Beggio may have influenced the adoption of the V11 Sport original design (1999-2001) before taking ownership in ~2000. EICMA 1997

Yet, with all of those great Guzzis, why the V11 SpineFrame? Red-headed stepchild? Underdog? Secret succulent? Snakebite?

Just think. If it not for this moment, and this fine fellow, we would not be here together. I am SO thankful!!

Haha! Love is like that, isn't it? The experience of being part of the community that has grown out of these loves reminds of this quote by John Ruskin: "The highest reward for a man's toil is not what he gets for it, but what he becomes by it. "

    Day one with mySport, August 2000 . . . Top 5 Moto Guzzi picks since 1965? V11 Sport/silver, V11 LeMans Tenni, V11 Sport "carryover"/burgundy, V11 LeMans/black, V11 Coppa Italia I mean, hey @4corsa, you're asking the other inmates on the ward!

  23. Maybe this technology is, at best, "Artificial Decision" (AD) with "intelligence" being a long way off, and likely a perpetual misnomer.
  24. Pretty sure I'm not Geek Qualified, but agreed. The distinction I would make between AI (artificial intelligence) and CG (computer generated) is decision making. Trusting a vehicle's sensors and interpretive systems to operate the vehicle is "AI", IMO. Generating an image, video, or voice narration digitally remains CG/computer generated as the software behind the generation is still built by human software engineers and is not making any decisions for us. To anchor this back to this music thread, it reminds me of my drummer friend's opinion about drum machines. He said something like, "Yeah, they keep perfect time, but they've got no soul." Real drummers make decisions. The hallmark of "intelligence." "The [drummers] here can set me straight."
