In the photo, it looks a lot like there is a luggage rack on that bike. That is no doubt what the red bag is on. As far as the throwover bags on the seat go, taking off the cover on the so-called pillion seat (torture rack ) would prevent paint damage.

Yes, that is what I did. And I use a certain transparent tape that came with the throw-over bag to protect the parts that are touched by the straps. And there are bodywork protection flaps on the straps as well. 

It is a SW Motech throw-over and the rear rack is the same as you have. The aluminum colored rack.

That's real handy,  I'm definitely looking into getting something like that for my next trip. Thanks!

Just like mounting a saddled horse. Left foot- left stirrup, stand up. With some creeping stiffness these days, I even use the method to dismount.

And then you wonder why your side stand mount or side stand and side stand mount bolt bends and the sump mount cracks. Side stands are for propping the motorcycle not a mounting device.
