Does this count ?(work in progress/don't move the bus yet!)

Sheesh -I guess I better get out of the shop every now and then.
  4. I'm, just jealous Scud. MG obviously hit the mark with the Scura, as evidenced by the last of the line "R", AND the lack of them for sale compared to the rest. The guy with the Tenni is jealous of the guy with the Scura? I don't feel so odd about the zinc chromate thing now.
  5. Is there some way to compute the ZDDP content (typically ppm, but has to account for the dilution in your oil)?

Ah . . . so that's what you do with the Factory Stand spindle and an old headguard . . .

    Zinc chromate

In my own fit of Vee-elevenosis Scuratimitis, I'm determined to get the alternator cover in at least one coat of primer today. Stripped with "aircraft" stripper (man, is that stuff potent! My nitrile gloves should have come up the arms further!), cleaned with SuperClean®, sanded with 600grit (and cleaned again). The lower leading edge is awfully peckered up from these 100,000 miles, but I have the best-damn-primer in the whole-wide world! Trying to get the part warmed up for a first coat. (barely over 50ºF outside. FWIW, the stainless fasteners were in good shape showing remnants of copper anti-seize. Threads to the wire wheel and a fresh, liberal coat of grease.
  9. I'm not in the know on this, but the PayPal link on Wildguzzi is for George Westbury in Rock Hill, SC, USA: https://www.paypal.me/Orwig
  10. Good eye, there, JRD! Interesting bike! I can't quite make out the clip-ons - they don't appear to be above the triple like a typical LeMans. And check out those sweet exhaust hangers and nifty front fender. No external regulator on the tank . . . really interesting V11 ! You promised us more pictures, voycie!
  11. Seems the labeling allows SG/SH/SL (or "exceeds SG"), to mean that this is actually SL rated oil (?) [The RedLine 20W-50 I just purchased states "API SN/SM/SL"] I suppose we have H-D to thanks, but almost every chain autoparts store here in the USA has display of motorcycle (and often "racing") oils that typically include several grades of both Mob1 and Lucas, as well as CI-4xx rated diesel oils (which are expected to have higher ZDDP if that's what you're looking for). The OP is still waiting for someone who adds ZDDP . . . . *crickets* ?

    Brand-new Scura

Thanks for the clarification JesterGrin_1 and Chuck. I knew they had to be completely torn down, but was not sure the procedure at that point. So, engine cases, gearbox case(s), rear drive case. But probably not the ancillary parts Scud discovered (reaction rod, driveshaft collars)? I'm wondering if that is a way to see that a 2002 V11 had this service performed?
  13. Pretty sure we're all afflicted . . . And, no, it's not *curable.* Best hope is to treat early and often with syncopated vibration, wind blast, and lean angles; routine garage sessions involving odd chemicals, obscure procedures, and shared experience may produce some "palliative resolution of cognitive dissonance." Apply liberally. Repeat.
  14. So, jus' sayin' : that is not a "V11" . . . 5-speed gearbox, earlier frame and geometry, earlier bevel box. "Customized 1100 Sport-i"
  15. "Exceeding " a rating does not rate the oil at that (SG) specification, or make it "better." Making that statement suggests that the oil meets subsequent ratings (SH/SL etc . . . )
  16. I just had to cross-post this. It has so many angles on what we are doing to our V11 these days: Ah - the rare affliction of Scuratimitus . Clinically, I understand this can make the afflicted sing at the top-of-his-lungs during gear changes on elevation changes with lean angles. Otherwise, Scuratimitus can also be diagnosed using a ratio of motorcycle lifts/jacks&stands : hammers. There is also Pseudo-Scuratimitus in which the afflicted cannot get his V11 dark enough and resorts to zinc chromate , or worse: *dangerous-ism* (making a Nero Corsa even more nero and more corsa )

    Brand-new Scura

Come on knowing that Moto Guzzi would replace the cases with new ones back in the day under warranty must have given some indication that it would have been a bit of a pain lol. But hey you are having fun. I do not recall that that is what Moto Guzzi offered for that defect. I recall that they would have the dealer "refinish" the cases, or the owner could elect for some compensatory accessories (a jacket or otherwise?). I know one owner who went through the painful disassembly/ refinish process and heard of others who opted for the "accessory" option. Anyone with first-hand experience?
  18. I did some rough math once... and I think it's possible that the "limited edition" Scura is one of the most common variants in the whole V11 series. Scura are arthropods belonging to the class Chilopoda of the subphylum Myriapoda. They are elongated metameric creatures with one pair of legs per body segment. Scura are known to be highly venomous, and often inject paralyzing venom. Ah - the rare affliction of Scuratimitus .
  19. Does anyone have a source of SG rated oil that is not also rated SH/SL?
  20. I thought that was "common knowledge." I do recall distinctly the disappointment of "Limited Edition/ Numbered" Rosso Mandello owners being less than impressed when another 300 (?) Rosso Mandello were produced. A wealth of Rosso Mandello archives in the V11LeMans Rosso Mandello Register: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=14857 How accurate can we say the 170 Tenni and 700 Scura are?
  21. Yes, truly . . . that rear stand? And would ya look at that alternator cover? A think of beauty!
  22. As for validity, I have heard that NASA tested numerous methods for obtaining correct torque on a fastener and found no more accurate than the hand of an experienced technician. While that may (or may not) be *urban legend,* it is well known on the racing circuits that some drivers have a dyno-tuned ass. Say, Niki Lauda for instance:
  23. Are there any dyno charts that compare this quantitatively on a single bike? It's just that there are so many parameters between two separate bikes' *feel.* Oh yes, on the controlled environment of Coaltrack Road Raceway, Dangerous used a time honored & proven power assessment tool. That was mostly roaring down the road and comparing the result against a calibration chart that read: Yawn, meh, ok, alright, great, awesome, f?#k. Not very accurate, but improves with the retelling. Ah, technically speaking, then: palliative resolution of cognitive dissonance.
  24. Agreed with LowRyter, yet your 2001 has only a 4.5 inch rim and was delivered with a 170. Many have found a 160 has more desirable handling a wear characteristics. Your 2004 is a 2nd Gen V11 (2002-2004) and has a 5.5 inch rear and uses the 180 (or 170) you reference.
