  2. Every time I clean up my eight pistons, the difference in feel is remarkable. I do it every front tire change now and it always makes me happy!
  3. It's the kind of difference in performance I only notice (how much better) after I clean them and equalize the piston movement.

  5. A front tire change is a perfect time to clean and equalized all the piston movement. Shops aren't going to do that for the cost of a tire change. The pistons do get retracted to reinstall the calipers and, if the pistons are not moving evenly, could cause the pads to engage the rotor unevenly creating a reduced contact area and sudden wear variation. Probably a good time to clean those pistons, maybe consider a pad change if they are rather old (original?).
  6. With only a couple days out: A-> B-> C-> D 1) A fantastic "high pressure dome" brings us fabulous riding weather! 2) But *chilly* in the mornings and up on the Appalachian Divide. Prepare accordingly. Mind the Windchill! 3) Check your routes and navigation. Maps / GPS / -> especially for Saturday. 4) Do make sure "The lines between the lines line up with the lines . . ."

  17. So, that was some exciting times living from tornado box to tornado box. Thank goodness for amazing tracking tools. The good news is that this huge low pressure system is likely to draw an equally huge high pressure dome out of the west. Read: cooler, dry air for next weekend . . .
  18. Key on: battery light on, oil pressure light on. All the warning lights should come on except the low fuel light. Most likely causes: bad bulb or loose bulb socket, but it seems there is a regulator issue that defeats the light. Put a voltmeter to the battery and confirm charging voltage exceeds the static battery voltage.
  19. I've been re-reading Greg Field's "Moto Guzzi Big Twins." Just yesterday, read this account of the V7 sport: "Sport forks were built by Moto Guzzi, and are possibly the first cartridge-type forks fitted to any production motorcycle."
  20. When I put my Sport back together recently, getting all the connectors re-seated well and restoring full electrical conductivity to the entire harness took some re-doing. Look at all of the lights, instrument illumination, dash*warning* lights*. Absolutely all of this works?
  21. With a quality voltmeter, check the battery voltage (I know it's new, but check). Check that there is battery voltage to both Fuse#1 and Fuse#2 (outboard terminal). As Chuck says, swap the center relay into the 5th (last position. Always use a High Current relay in Position #5.

  24. A few years back, motowfo and I tested the mercury sticks next to a TwinMax and found the TwinMax just fine for throttle balance on his Coppa Italia. No tuna were harmed in this endeavor. But Imperial Stout was a factor . . .
