  1. Now that Moto Murphy's LeMans starts every time, he's moving on to other issues. Looks like the relays are still Siemans. Best relays are OMRON: http://www.digikey.com/products/en?x=-987&y=-73&lang=en&site=us&KeyWords=z2247-ND Here's one of the main reasons I keep saying that: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12326&p=133211
  2. There should be an understandable hierarchy of tool grades. Something like: >HF & Chinee online >Local hardware store >Tool truck/ Professional Quality >Marine Grade >Aviation Approved >Space Program unobtanium-made
  3. I finally broke down and got a tiny spray can of Caig DeOxit Gold to cheer up the Sport's electrics. The volume pots on the Bassman are pretty scratchy. Can I get some of the magic juice into them without the caps blowing me into the nearest parallel dimension?
  4. And those V11 are going through the roof. Someday soon. Well, pretty soon, I'm sure. Sooner or later?
  5. Is that like "marine grade" for people who are afraid of falling?
  6. Got some photos, there, buddy? There are several known factors important to the external shift mechanism . . .
  7. "Uncle Scud said it was okay, Honey . . ." After all, lots of people live in their Sprinter with three motorcycles these days . . .
  8. Dang, man, that would look GREAT between a Griso and a V11 Sport . . . Jus' sayin' . . . . (I mean, magnesium wheels? Those, alone would keep an entire farmstead warm through an Ohio winter )
  9. Positive Clutch Switch bullet connectors *Wiggle Test* . . . Goes like this: > Take the seat off, turn the Run Switch off. >Look at the dash, turn the Ignition key on: all the lights come on, including indicator lights. >Turn the Run Switch on: the "back" relays go through a sequence of *clicks* and the fuel pump whirrrrs. >Pull in the clutch (listen for a tiny *click* at the lever microswitch) and press the Starter Button. Nothing? >*Wiggle* the wire from the Clutch Switch into the left side of the loom (or turn the "bars" from side to side while holding both the clutch in and the Starter Button pressed). The starter suddenly *catches*? Look to the nefarious "bullet connectors" for the Clutch Switch alongside the left of the frame just aft of the headstock. While they are easiest to service with the "Tank Off", they can be seen to in situ; with really small hands and a penchant for cursing like a New Zealander with a Nero Corsa . . .
  10. It's looking like this: Nothing Silver was harmed in the trouble-shooting of this LeMans!
  11. It's a delight! Dave told me he has them made by Dennis Stubbelfield Tools in L.A., CA, USA. No "index lines" were needed. The tool has a a nice *feel*.

    Zinc chromate

The alt cover pretty much disappears in person. I can see why most "homage" Carcano/ Guzzi greens are more of a "satin spruce." But, this is The Real Deal!
  13. Greg Field's book "Moto Guzzi Big Twins" is a must-have for everyone. The interviews with Umberto Todero and John Wittner are priceless. Greg, single-handedly, set the record straight on the whole "tractor motor" bullcrap that was, apparently, erroneously started by Mick Walker (IMO). Best regards to Greg!

    Decent Tune-up

I've added a couple edits and links to the first post. I'm trying to be careful to keep the procedure "basic" and not get into *fine tuning* but added a couple specifics in the balancing section after watching myself perform this tune-up on the Sport. Recently, someone asked me if the TPS baseline had to be reset once done. I found mine "out" a little after 60,000 miles mostly affected by the dirty throttle plate. Cleaned it up and set it to Meinolf's recommendation: I can say that, after almost 6,000 miles between tune-ups, she responded fantastically. Not that she was running badly, but the difference after is fabulous: very crisp start-up cold or hot, very stable idle, and awesome pulling power through the revs. My fuel economy went way down since I can't remember when I've spent that much time above 6,000 rpm!

  16. This post is also in this thread, pinned in How-to: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9425 Thanks for dredging this one up! (sure miss hearing from Greg Field; gotta love that pull-cord hex driver!)
  17. Complete with disappearing alternator cover!
  18. Thanks, gentlemen! It's a pleasure. I appreciate ya'll puttin' up with me (Heh, worked in another "ya'll" . . . . . . and even a * puttin' * ) Gave the Sport her Christmas presents today:
  19. Just finished Step#4 on the "Decent Tune-up," conditioning the battery overnight and looking for a weather window tomorrow (Christmas Day) to warm the engine, finish the Tune-up and drop the oil. Time to replace that 100,000 mile sump gasket! Merry Christmas, ya'll!
  20. During a brief phone conversation with Moto Murphy last night, a loose clutch switch with missing fastener was discovered. Here's hoping that's all there is to this one!
  21. I'd like to get a look at those . . . . . . . .
  22. Haha - that, alone, should make the builders proud! *shocking!* And I thought I was was pushing the envelope finishing my alt cover in Zn-chromate!
  23. I suspect you'd be dissapointed docc. Ciao Could be. I wouldn't want to be the one to dial in the tune with that intake/exhaust and a downdraft Weber ! (We'll have to get 'dangerous' to take that task on! ) The article I read in Café Racer Magazine said they stripped the body work off looking for a tube frame and were surprised to find the spine instead, but after a bit saw what genius (my word) it is.
  24. I'd just like to hear it ride by at full chat.
