  5. Perfect timing. After putting 1500 miles on my black V11, the 1st upgrade I am planning for it is dialing in the suspension. How lucky I feel that all of you folks have carried the torch and advanced the technical knowledge for this quest while I was away. Winning! This is one (of several) great thread(s) on these early forks. My own experience had me chasing compression damping 14 or so years ago. I never tried welding up those holes, or messing with the cartridges in any way, but I used thicker oil in the compression side fork only. It still lacked feedback. So those holes in the cartridge are the likely culprit! I think feedback is a product of compression damping and spring rate (in that order). On my silver bike I changed springs and set the sag on both ends (500 lbs/inch rear, progressive fronts) and now believe I should have went .90 - 1.00 kg/mm in the front (as guzzler did here). I also had my tubes above the top clamp by 10mm. In the end I could ride it pretty hard (I ran the old Pilot Powers), but I never really trusted the front. It would stick, but it wasn’t confidence inspiring! The rear shock is the stock Sachs and spring. The front appears stock as well. The forks will come apart this winter. I will take photos and be asking which of the holes need blocking. The big name US aftermarket companies don’t have much info listed, and need some (a lot?) that I can trust! Anyone recommend a U.S. based expert on the forks?

  6. Haha, well our US State Governments will never be the most reliable source of critical information of some 20+ year old Italian motorcycle. As long as you know what to order parts for, the "2004" thing is just something to disclose if you ever sell her on. Seems you are making some excellent progress on your V11 journey!

  7. Once clean and dry, you can spray the areas of concern with foot powder and take a short, slow speed ride. The powder will discolor at the source.

  8. 2001 Moto Guzzi Rosso Mandello V11 Sport #49. 16k miles. Has Mistral crossover and Exan (Italian) carbon exhaust with removable baffle that sounds amazing. Power commander. Also has a Penske rear shock. Otherwise it is well maintained and original. Starts and runs great and has good Michelin Pilot Power 4 tires. Has a few small paint marks in tank from normal use. Only selling as I have wrist issues and can no longer sit on it for as long as I would like. I have original literature, letter of authenticity, parts manual, and workshop manual for the bike. Video of it running. https://youtu.be/2FSHFHEjas4 Bike is located in Mazomanie, WI. More than happy to work with shippers if needed. I have shipped and received bikes in the past. $6200 obo

  10. I bought a Battery Tender 12 Volt Junior 800 Selectable Lead Acid Lithium Battery Charger for winter storage. Came with a cable which I put onto the battery so it can be plugged in whenever it sits without removing the seat.

  11. ‘’…..my surprise at the V11 slow steering, as compared to my V7.” Lagrasta, I only used Michelin sport bike tires on my old silver V11. My understanding is that sport bike tires are more of a triangular profile than sport touring tires. Apparently this helps with turn in. Also I ran the ohlins rear shock, which raised the rear a bit. This should also help turn in. But these red frame bikes have pretty aggressive geometry from the factory. Be careful. I plan on trying 5mm first. There is something else I did to my silver bike that I am also doing to the black one, which is worth mentioning..…..it was a bit controversial back in 2006 or 2007, but it worked great and probably added some stability and slowed the turn in some….. I wonder if anyone here remembers……….

  12. Thanks for asking. I was finally able to complete all my normal Gym work last Friday, I was able to follow up Monday and today. My heartbeat still isn't where it should be but it's improving. But my strength and stamina are better -about 85%. I've been riding the Duc when the weather is nice. I couple weeks ago I was so weak I could barely lean it but I'm hitting the apexes now. Monday, I did my complete workout and did a couple hours on the Duc. I was worn out when I got home. I cooked on the grill and had scotch & cigar and perked right up. So thanks for asking and I'm getting better.

  13. For those inclined along these delicious good-‘ol-boy musical lines, Aaron Lewis does some great work that just can’t help but be turned up, whether on the shop stereo, car stereo, or on the rare situations where I’m piping bluetooth into my helmet. Lewis is the original lead from Staind, which was a bit too melodramatic in style for my taste, and he can still get that way in his newer-found country genre, but whatever, he gets it right with “the road”, “sinner” (with willie Nelson), “northern redneck”, and some others. I don’t see a real video for The Road, just this user-made montage of truck pics as background to the song: https://youtu.be/XtIG88d8I90

  14. Yes, the connector pipe for the vent tube has a gasket and can leak, but usually down through the clutch housing and out the lower weep hole behind the engine. There are other leak sources up top including the oil feed lines to the heads and the O-ring/ sealing surface of the distributor blanking plate. Oil leaking and blowing back from a failed steering damper seal will wet this area, as well.

  15. Back from DMV...guy looked it up on his screen and confirmed it is a 2004. I mentioned the tenth digit on the VIN...he said that isn't always right. Alrighty then...new title will have 2004 also. Can't fight city hall. It is all legal and registered to me now.

  16. Front of the left cylinder? More likely the #112 Viton O-ring for the phase/timing/cam sensor.

  17. G'day again folk's Well managed to get out for a wee 250 k jaunt Sunday to try latest settings.... I'm quite happy ( bloody rapt actually!) with the Comp on + 2 and rebound on + 4 so think I'll leave it there for the time being. It seems to be a good compromise for our goat tracks! Couldn't agree more about getting spring rate right and now I understand what all those road tests were on about under sprung and overdamped ha ha. My set up now is .95kg straight rate springs ( I'm a kick in the pants off 90 kilos ) and forks as above with them up through the triples by 8mm and a Hyperpro 460 emulsion shock at the rear with a Hyperpro steering damper set at +4 . One particular corner stands out that rams home the difference before /after suspension work. It was a tightish but sweeping downhill right hander taken at 110 kays, road was wet and had a trace of mud / muck on it that was unavoidable. The feel from the front was brilliant and I knew exactly what was going on all the way through it. The old set up was vague through here even in the dry! Thanks again folk's. Ps funny thing happened at the servo filling up before setting out. I pull in and lo and behold there's another Green V11 Sport at the pumps! I nearly fell off the bloody thing in shock and matey was just as stunned! Ha ha we had a laugh about you don't see two of these in the same spot.... Actually you just don't see two of these full stop ha ha ! Geez these things sound good eh! Guzzler

  18. Similar story here. There obviously has been a major security breach. I had cancelled my PP,but due to some algorithm a small subscription fee was automatically withdrawn and paid by them many weeks later. Almost immediately, I received an obviously phony email from PP notifying re a large Bitcoin transaction. Appeared to be a Phishing attempt? Idk Tks for the warning and I agree with you, pay attention folks.

  20. While I'm this far apart and waiting, I'll have my injectors cleaned and perhaps buy a new/rebuilt set for the shelf depending on price and time. I found these guys and an interesting table of injector data including our green IW-031. https://www.injectorrx.com/fuel-injector-cleaning-and-flow-testing-service/fuel-injectors/fuel-injector-data/weber-fuel-injectors/

  21. I am very much interested in making May Kentucky Month -- tho the thought of any centerfolds from this bunch skeers me. Anyway, as those who care know -- an exceedingly small group -- I have ridden for many years twice to Kentucky annually: in late May (Memorial Day weekend) and late September for "Mutton Runs." As I ride exclusively on entertaining backroads vice the slab, the most practical way to make both of these events is to do the sKSR first, then head up to Daviess County. That mean$ lodging co$t$ ju$t as $everal of our 13 (ga$p) grandkid$ have birthday$. The days of those little shixes being happy with empty boxes are long gone. Moto Guzzis are my hobby; buying things for grandkids is Kathi's. As my newest Guzzi is a 2017 model, guess who spends more. 😳 The biggest impediment to being gone that long at that time of year as it's prime weed-growing season! That sounds like a joke, but I'll need to hire a bush hog instead of my zero-turn if I don't get lucky. I only wish that dandelions and the like were cash crops. I can mooch for a few days in Eddyville with an old friend, and possibly with some other unsuspecting high-school or college friends -- tho Kathi has a no-fly list that includes a Greensburg redhead from days of yore -- that I might lean on for free lodging between the events. Still, a 1500-mile roundtrip -- something like the map here -- is otherwise enticing. I sent a PM to Joe about that cabin's room, but if that is taken or all of this is in my too-hard-do box, I'll reserve a room now at the lodge and cancel if I must later. Bill P.S. I am still licensed to practice law in Kentucky, but as an officially retired Old Flatulent and "Senior Counselor," I'm exempt from paying bar dues. If any of you end up wearing an orange suit, I can return to "active duty" for your court appearance and would only charge you those bar dues.
