  1. Gentlemen, Thanks to all! I dug through my garbage this morning, found the old filter and, sure enough, the gasket was missing. Gee, I wonder where is might be! Looks like I made a real amateur mistake which makes total sense when I think about it. You guys are the best! Thanks

  3. My gut reaction is that your old oil filter left the gasket stuck on the ring, and either twisted out of the way unsealing the filter, or blew out when oil pressure hit it.

  4. I have the same impressions as pressureangle after 2000-odd km. She just runs better. To be fair, my chaindrive probably sucked and was in need of replacement, but, hey, the gears were still being made so for me the choice was easy. The wicked noise the gears generate is an added bonus.

  5. Here's a short video showing reassembly. Disassembly obviously is the reverse order of operations. There is a tool to center your clutch discs without taking off your transmission drive gear, likely available from a vendor or member nearer to you.

  6. Hi, The ECU switches to communications mode when GuzziDiag or the reader/writer programs connect and the fuel pump will not spin up. If the fuel pump spins then GuzziDiag or the reader/writer programs don't connect to the ECU. Two likely reasons, either the connector/adapter is the wrong one or defective or the plus/minus cables are not connectd. Or, in case of the reader/writer, the programs are not the ones to be used with your ECU. Have you tried connecting GuzziDiag successfully? If yes, which ECU did you select? Are you using the reader/writer for this ECU? Cheers Meinolf

  8. I used a small hand pump to prime my bike after the sump was off for weeks. I didn't know if it had lost prime, but I thought it wouldn't do any harm. As Phil suggested, I pumped oil into the pick-up tube which pokes down into the sump screen.

  9. By checking the fuel pressure. Pretty easy to do and a testing kit these days is maybe 30 bucks on ebay. The filters are a travesty but I won't go down that path. It might be worth removing them and see if it makes a difference but I'm doubtful. It's far cheaper to just clean the injectors and get them flow tested at maybe 25 bucks each. Unknown history means you need to start from a WCS. Phil

  10. Bike history unknown. what I know. set tps set CO trim to Zero the ETS was completely missing and now it is there . balanced throttle bodies. there was a tuning box attached to the stock ecu but it was removed. i assume the ECU is stock Help: pressure regulator , how do I know it is stuck closed ? at this point I don’t mind buy new injectors.( I poured so much money and time in this POS LOL I would have bought a pristine example of V11 ah ah but this is fun … isn’t it ??!!!! i didn’t do this but I will try to remove those K&N filters and see if they are not allowing air in .

  11. I'm reluctant to get too involved with issues like this for various reasons but here's a few questions. Has the bike sat around unused for a long period of time? Does it have any stupid additional boxes added to the efi system like a PC3? If there's fuel in the oil then you've got bigger issues than a simple sensor issue. If the sensor fails then the system just goes to a safe default figure. What map does it have in it? Std? Did you get the CO reset back to zero? I'd be looking at getting the injectors professionally cleaned (esp if it's sat around for a while) and check the fuel pressure and that the pressure regulator is not stuck closed. Injectors that dont seat properly leak and it's obvious what that would result in. Phil

  12. If it's not the filter gasket then the oil pumps lost its prime, happens sometimes for reasons nobody can explain. It's a mistake to remove the sump when you have no need to, same as overnight oil draining. Best to dump the oil replace the filter, fill it and start it in the shortest time you can. A few choices. Remove the front cover and pull the pump and fill it with grease and put it all back together again, not an attractive proposition. The second is to block the crankcase breather and use shop air to put 5 psi or so into the crankcases to help push the oil into the pump or pull the sump again and take a large syringe ( I have a 1.5 litre one) with a hose on the pump pickup and force some oil into the pump with the filter removed. 13. Take a look at your old oil filter and see if the gasket is there or not. They are known to stay on the mounting flange and cause the problem you describe. Paul B

  14. I replaced my intake rubber boots today. Along the way, I bothered to do some discovery on best method, at least on my '97 Sport-i. The winner is Lucky Phil- taking the intake manifolds off is enormously easier than working the boots otherwise. I'm not even certain I could have installed the new boots at all without removing the manifolds; the bar that ties my TBs together is very close to the frame bracket for the transmission brace and wouldn't move back much at all. As it was, I removed the clamps, pushed the rubbers away from the manifolds, removed the 3 mani bolts, slid the rubber back onto the manifold and off of the TB. The mani and rubber pop right out with only a little fiddling and no force. Reverse the process to install. It's easier to install the mani bolts in their holes and place the rubber before working the whole thing into place; take care with the threads as you have to keep the rubber from pushing them around. Installing the screws last is difficult because you can't slide the rubbers back away very far. A ball allen is nearly demanded. I had different gaskets on L & R sides. No info. Both sides stuck to the manifold and came off the heads clean. I cleaned the surfaces and put a very light coat of Permatex #2 to be sure they seal. Reinstalled my throttle rod, synched the TBs, set the TPS and tomorrow a test ride. Idles dead steady at 1100 now. Again. Those throttle rod knobs are still in the works, but they are a secondary priority behind real work.

  15. For those that have been patiently waiting.. I haven't forgotten. Finished up machining and forming today, and have them in the parts washer. Still need to bead blast and powder coat. As one of our members says, though.. Comma but. I have one or two days left on the wing that is in the shop, and it has to be moved out before I can move the Ancient Airlines High Tech Powder Coater Oven (tm) in. We'll most likely ship early next week assuming the shipping department doesn't drop the ball.

  18. I never liked the look of Guzzi’s when I was a teenager riding Yamaha & Suzuki two stroke twins & triples in the 80’s & 90’s, I used to think the proportions were all wrong on Guzzi’s of that vintage. That was until one day I saw a Daytona parked in a car park, I had to go over & take a closer look, “wow” I thought “ that’s a Moto Guzzi,.. they can get it right.!” I loved the muscular stance of it & walked away pretty impressed. A few years later I was looking for a bike & was intent on a Ducati 1098, although after a test ride I thought, “I’ll lose my licence on this for sure”. A few days later I spied a Coppa Italia in the window of a local Guzzi dealer, I had to go & check it out. I was quite smitten but unable to afford it, the dealer did however have a 2004 Cafe Sport for sale which I could afford, I took it for a test ride & loved it, I thought then & still think now that there is no better sounding motorcycle, particularly with the cat removed & some nice pipes fitted. Mine has a mistral crossover & nice pair of Australian made Staintunes, & imho it sounds like a symphony!. I’ve owned it for the last thirteen years & the more I ride it the more I love it, dropping it deep into a bend scraping my boot off the road & opening it right up on the exit is just the best..

  19. So far not much luck with them and it's been a week. I thought I was purchasing a replacement, then I get notice that they want to repair it. Went to UPS and shipping is $100, USPS won't touch it (Li Battery). They didn't supply a mailer so I'm confused what the hell they want to do. I'll keep you posted. I'll get a refund on my paypal if they keep screwing around.
