  1. I would fab up a pair of .30 cal air-cooled MG barrels to poke out the front. Air cooled. MG. It all fits.

  3. You could powder coat it and spray clear over it with "flex" mixed in to avoid rock chips. That requires a mixable 2K paint, however. Much cheaper and garage doable is 3M Paint Defender, an aerosol clearcoat that sprays on thick and protects from rock chips. Lasts about one year on cars and can be peeled off and re-sprayed as needed.
  4. It was all fixed via using a single float bowl off to the side. As to cranks, never heard the German bit. I do know the the early ones with a cross-plane crank have the traditional V8 sound, while the later flat crank models (gotta re-do all that ignition and cam timing), sound like the two 4 cylinder inlines, which essentially it is. Despite all of its flaws, it was an astounding bit of accomplishment in still-rebuilding-from-the-war Italy. It was compared to nothing contemporary. Rather, everything else, for some years on, was compared to it.

    Welcome from the land of evil spirits! Nice Rosso. Low mileage, I would suspect. The good news is that you have dodged the pesky problems of the early bikes. The "rest of the story" is that these bikes have loads of personality - even if that personality is bi-polar at times, passive-aggressive at others, and occasionally, what I refer to as "improved French" The transmission has a neutral but no owner does.
  6. This is the later flat crank model.
  7. BUNA-N, i.e. Nitrile. The "garter" spring indicates a seal which can take some heat and pressure. Ya' know, you can get 15-26-7 double BUNA-N sealed ball bearings. A thin film of RTV to seal it against shaft and housing. The only problem is that shifting might be so smooth and effortless that there would be an apocalyptic, horrific reaction in all of nature.
  8. Once you know the size, they are cheap. Material is the second qualifier. The "$1.00" + S/H seal is BUNA-N, with a garter spring.
  9. The long frame V11s seem to be so oversprung in the rear that it is not really needed unless two-up.
  10. For those so inclined...I just received this tank sealer special from KBS Coatings. Coupon code J121 will get 15% off. They describe fiberglass tanks in their instructions, but it seems that nylon would also be treatable.
  11. Yes, very cool, that. Will have to pull my tank to see how they messed up (designed) the black frames. Ugh. Well, it ain't running anyway. Say, any room for a 12V computer fan atop that rectifier? I know that on Kwackers, they die a lot from heat.
  12. OK, frame spuds on an eccentric. Or spring-loaded fore-aft spuds. Don't want the tank loose, but don't want it to "banana" from being squeezed. I have a 1982 650 Seca with a tank I coated in 1983 (new replacement) with aircraft tank slushing compound. Fuller-O'Brien used to make it. It's still there. Still rubbery-tacky. Chuck will know.

  15. There is also lubricant/preservative sprays to fog the cylinders.
  16. Flip the aluminum washer over next time and use a thin coat of wheel bearing grease on both sides. Never had a leak.

  19. Was no M/C endorsement when I got my first driver's license. Couple of years later, non-biker legislators decided that they needed more money and invented a M/C endorsement. Was grandfathered in, so have never taken the test. Oh, at renewal, they ding you for the M/C "endorsement" alright.

  24. Fellow on eBay - someone here may know him - has various clearance Ducati stuff. Also some Guzzi, Triumph, Morini etc. bits. Seems like he shops at the factory or??? The 2000-on Monster CF fairing might just fit with some mods to the mount kit. No windshield screws. Faux Scura anyone? Or a new 748 head for $24.99? Nice coffee table or garage wall conversation starter. New 600 Monster Marzocchi forks for $99.50 (caveat: both are right side). He also has some Duc speedos and tachs - was there any interchange with Guzzi?
