  1. The phase/timing sensor is located at the top/left of the timing chest forward of the left cylinder. Its spacer is a metal shim under the hold-down flange. It is not spaced by the O-ring (although Tinus89's swelled O-ring interfered with his. @jetboy, does your Sport still have the electric petcock? If so, pull back the rubber boot and inspect the electrical connections. Those wires have been known to break causing a fuel starvation.

  3. #5 is the one of the two most stressed relays on your early Sport. It is at the back. Your #1 is the next most stressed. But, it seems you took care of this with the proper High Current G8HE OMRONS? A set of simple (but neglected) connections to check are beneath the fuse block for the front two fuses. The fuse block can be lifted (pried) up and these connectors inspected and secured:
  4. That is sooooooo unlikely. More likely a connection or switch. 1) Does it return to normal when cooled down? 2) Does the fault change with sidestand up versus down?

Honestly, I just watch how y'all are courteous to one another and basically moderate your own-selves. Good on ya. 2) After the initial "conversation" I made some posts relevant to the topic title. The (obvious) action seemed well accepted. 3) Yet, the topic title really does not reflect the intent of the OP, hence the topic was moved to this suforum for "banter." I've marked Scud's post about considering "epistemology" as the topic "answer" as this concept is deeply relevant to forums such as ours. From Jaap's founding of this site nineteen years ago (!), we have kept a knowledge based approach to sharing. I have found nowhere else (internet or otherwise) where folks are so willing to help one another. Still, there is this constant balance and tension between opinion/belief and fact/reality. Can we say epistemology is the reason oil and tire threads have the reputation they have earned all across the web?
  9. I spite of my encouragement to go to the trouble to condition the Odyssey to get the most out of it, and take the load off of our nefarious charging system, an 80% PC545 has still been a vastly better performer for me than any other "power sports" battery I've ever seen or owned.

  15. I recall one of our members stated it's the other-way-'round: Metzler owns Pirelli . . . Recently, I found it a reassurance that my new Bridgestones are still made in Japan and my Avons are still made in England. I recall Metzler, in the past, were made in Germany, but as footgoose says - you'll know when you see the tire.
  16. I've long struggled with the "heavy tails" of the V11 and the Centauro. It helped me appreciate them to learn that Luciano Marabese "drew them after" the Gambalunghino and Dondolino rear race fenders. That Dynotec Centauro looks great!

Pretty sure we're saying the same thing. while I have seen no evidence of licensing (as if the Italians ever make these agreements public), I share your observation about the similarity (" . . damn near identical.") To take the observation a bit further, the very first PC545 I sourced to replace my original Spark 500 was absolutely identical in every way (2006). The PC545 changed a little by the next one I bought (2010): [Note: these batteries have all lasted about twice as long as those date intervals, but the older battery has swapped into service in my Odyssey-test-bed and faithful 750cc Kohler-twin garden tractor, swampee.]
  19. Right? Pretty sure you can't go wrong with tires from modern manufacturers. Distributors or shops? Well, I have mistakenly bought rather old (like three year old) tires "off the shelf." I've no experience with the Michelin Road 5, but agree that tire threads need to keep pace with newly offered tires. Recently, I switched to Bridgesone Battlax T31, at the advice of a trusted friend, after Pirelli took manufacturing to China while their prices went up. As for tire size, my 'feel' from members posting over this considerable time is that the 60 aspect ratio is kept, along with the 120 front, while the rear is often (not always!) taken down a width (early ShortFrame 4.5" rim: 170 -> 160, and later LongFrame 5.5" rim: 180 -> 170. IMO, the 170 (slightly pinched onto the 4.5" rim) of the early RedFrame contributed to complaints about the high speed squirm (along with a handful of other factors that all conspired to make for some skeery pucker-time coming by the bow wave of a semi-truck passing at 80-90 mph/ 130-150 kph ). "YMMV" surely can't apply to anything more than tires!! I eat mine up so fast, if I don't like one - no worries, it'll be gone soon.
  20. Ah, okay. That makes sense now. You were referring back to the original post on page one, not the opening statement in your post. @swooshdave, I was also thrown by what you are saying about the relationship between the Odyssey and the original Spark. The way I read this, "I went with the Odyssey, I'm still not convinced it's not the exact same battery as the Spark." You are saying they are the same battery?

  22. My understanding has been that the original Spark 500 is the Hawker Odyssey PC545 (OEM).
