  1. I am curious about the need for a remote preload. The Öhlins on mySport has one, but once set I never moved it again. Yet, I don't switch back and forth solo and pillion. Plus my pannier load-out and riding gear change very little.

Perhaps a fresh rebuild and proper spring might be all you need?

I always have been under the assumption those oil filters are supposed to be hand tight. Even if it "does not feel right"...

This is a subject of endless discussions across every forum.

On my V11, I do "reasonably" hand tight, and so far, did not notice anything astray.

Using a worm clamp around the filter feels "overkill". The fine thread pitch of the oil filter access makes it easy to damage. They should have opted for a coarser one, making it easier to engage.

The sticking gasket from the old filter is real and should be check each and every filter change.

"Hand Tight" may have applied to external automotive filters, but is a formula for disaster on a V11 . . .

  3. To take that a step further, the box section spine frame serves as a separator with the liquid fraction draining through the spine into the braided line that rejoins the oil sump at the back while the vapor fraction enters the airbox to be combusted. Or just gunk up the airbox . . .

  4. Truth be known, I am holding a room for our Chief Whip in the event he can be our honored guest at this SSR XX.

At some point in the SSR past, another member promised "a handful of Cubanos ."  I suppose they could stay in the room and when the innkeeper inquires about the potential improprieties, we can say,

"The Dutchman flew! and the Cubanos are nowhere to be found !"

       <_<

Okay, okay - the actual Cubanos:

@docc aren't we supposed to only use synthetic oils in our V11s?

Either way, I don't doubt what you wrote in the least, but rubber parts just get old.

If your old hose was still good (pun intended...), I reckon there was a bit of luck involved as well. B)

In spite of carrying various talisman on my person, and on mySport, at all times, I am not much of a believer in luck. VooDoo, sure, but not "luck" . . . :sun:

"Synthetic" oil runs the gambit of claims and allowances. Good luck finding out what the actual base oil is on your motor oil of choice. There are but a very few actual Group IV/ Group V base oils.

That true, full synthetic motor oils do not suffer the heat-evaporative losses of other oils might suggest a lesser load on our crankcase ventilation and less stress on this failure-prone hose.

Of course, very humid environs, storage conditions, and even tuning status (too much fuel load?) all contribute to what this crankcase ventilation hose has to suffer from . . .

  6. I also wonder about the motor oil in use affecting the longevity. "Mineral" oils have a significant heat-driven evaporative component while true synthetics (Group IV and Group V base oils) do not. I did change my hose while fighting various oil leaks, I saved my take-off as it was not faulty. That was at about 100,000 miles/ 161,000 km.

  7. I have always liked the last gen red LeMans. While actually not "Termignoni pipes", they are nice Titanium canisters. Replacement foot brake lever could mean a wee tip-over in the history . . .

What about later bikes post 2002 to the US like the Le Mans and all the other naked variants from 2002-2006? All 15M in the USA?

    Phil

Pretty sure, yes: "All 15M in the USA."

Not sure I have ever heard of a "2006" V11. Or even a 2005 in the USA. I was thinking the 2005 Scura R was the last of the breed, but have never heard of one of those in the USA . . .

I think Docc and I run the same low fuel thermistor/whatchacallit . My bike mimics a running out of fuel symptom . I stop and lay the bike over for a little while , get it back up and go a few miles , repeat procedure. It works perfectly! Do this as often as needed to get to civilization and gas up . I also follow the less used procedure of filling up every 200 miles .

Ah, yes, the "tip-slosh" replenish. Been there too many times.

No way I can go 200 miles. My safe refuel is closer to 160.

Hi @docc going back to your frame enquiry, it is a Centauro frame but it’s had the ‘Raceco chop’ which reduces the rake by 1.5 degrees. I can’t measure the wheelbase atm as the engine is out! I wanted something a bit more nimble than the usual spine frame, hence the chop and Dymags. The handling is certainly lighter and turn-in is sharper, so some satisfaction that time and money was well-spent 😊

Hey @docc the wheelbase is 1433mm , rake 22 degrees

    Seems a 1.5º chop on a Centauro frame would make 25º? :huh2:

  11. I can only recall one member here using a 150 on the 4.5" rim.

Last year I had the unique opportunity to see three early V11 Sport parked next to one another with three different size rear tires: 160, 170, and 180.

The angle of the sidewall looked most natural with the 160 while the 180 looked decidedly stressed.
