  1. I thought Barber was originally built to FIM standard? I don't what it would take to upgrade it. I don't why you would say the location is bad? It's perhaps one of the greatest motorcycle venues in the world if not the greatest. The track was designed for motorcycle racing, I'd love to see the GP bikes go at it. No, bikes can't run 200 there but it's very fast track with fast corners. So far as Indy. It didn't make. Simple as that. And that's the problem. Not enough fans to pay the freight. I'm not sure how COTA pays because the crowds are the same as Indy. Regardless, the bill will have to be a split and cash back to COTA for a 2nd race whether Indy, Barber, Sears Point, or that Tilke track west of Knoxville TN.
  2. Got this on my phone feed. Another GP venue in the US. Two races. I can only guess that Laguna would be the likely site, Barber would be fantastic. I doubt we'll see Indy. The rub here is that we "only" get around 40-50k attendance on race day. Maybe 70k all weekend. The cost to sanction a race is pretty big. F1 used to be a big loser as well until the Netflix deal. Indy speedway couldn't afford F1 nor MotoGP. COTA was subsidized by $25m a year from the state of Texas until F1 took off. Anyone have a guess where the 2nd race might be? https://motorcyclesports.net/motogp-will-expand-to-a-second-round-in-usa/
  3. Getting the throttle bodies cleaned up did wonders for my '98 bike. At 72k miles it runs better now than when I bought 15 years ago with 20k miles on it. OTOH, riding it wears me out anymore and I'd like to sell it. I purchased it have a two up bike, and now my wife doesn't ride anymore. It was the gateway bike that got me into Italian motorcycles.
  4. There's a local fellow that rides one of those MVs. What I never noticed is that the bike is extremely small and very low. Most sport bikes are tall, especially from the rear, this thing in on the ground.
  5. Phil, why did you go with a fattie on the greenie? You must have a wider wheel, it's not stock anyway.
  6. The rear tire is $220 and out of stock..... not cheap
  7. @p6x I see little reason purchasing a brand of tires because they sponsor racing. For the money, I prefer Dunlops. They seem to perform as good or better than the other brands and cost a little bit less. Sometimes a lot less. They're the only US made tire and support AMA, if those are factors. No one of us has tried all the various brands and styles of tires. If I hear of a better tire than the RoadSmarts, I'll purchase them. The last Mich I had was Pilot Road 3 (or 4), my Greenie wore it out quickly. I've had Pirellis on my Duc, and they wore out quickly. Both of those brands cost significantly more than the Dunlops. That's my rationale.
  8. I've not read Martin's side of it. If true, then Marc got what he deserved. Too bad for Martin. Marc's bike looks cool, no wings on the back either. One of Marc's fans on another forum has already predicted another title for him. If he does contend again, he'd better hope that half dozen grudges against him don't pay him back. There are three VR46 guys out there.
  9. I just read that a NASCAR team was taking over the satellite Aprilia team after DORNA banned the incumbent.
  10. I only read anti Wiki stuff from people that peddle "alternative facts".
  11. Wiki is one of the first places I go to when I want to do initial research or understanding. There you can find cited original sources if you want to go deeper. It's open sourced and publicly reviewed. I'm not sure why it gets so much flak. Perhaps it's because wiki is a culmination of many primary sources and therefore in itself cannot be accepted as primary research for schools and academics.
  12. Prouty is an interesting crank, it doesn't mean he's wrong. I learned of him reading about the Kennedy assassination. He was the inspiration for the Donald Sutherland character in the movie. So far as whether oil is organic or inorganic, I'm clueless. I've talked to petroleum geologists. Their entire theory is that it's an organic "fossil" and the depth and location determines the actual age of the substance. I'm sure someone will correct me if I misstated it. In a practical sense, it really doesn't matter what origin of it really is. Where the guy is right is regarding the "scarcity" and economics of it. We all know it's largely controlled by OPEC and the oil companies. It appears we will run out of use for it as a fuel before we literally run out of it, given the cheap availability of sustainable power coming on line. He makes another point about other commodities as well. Given that he was talking about economic and geopolitical policies in the 1970's, he's been proven correct.
  13. awful. I will say it's another example where riding faster than traffic, speeding, is a safer way to ride a motorcycle. I always felt safer on major highways passing traffic rather than riding with it. I've had to limit that due to excessive enforcement over the last 10 years. Much more stressful to ride with traffic. just my 2 cents
  14. Casey's is brand new station, less than year old. And Buc-ee's is the latest in "super stations", bigger than cable!
  15. I usually buy cheap gas for the car. Many times ethanol. For the bikes I'm a little more careful. Usually 100% gas / 91. I've only seen precipitous mileage drop on these two occasions. 91 in the Corvette from Buc-ees and 91 in Duc from Casey's. Anymore, I just run 87 in the Corvette, makes no difference how it runs.
  16. Casey advertized 100% gasoline 91 octane. The difference was nearly 4 mpg
  17. Well, it a happened again. Got some 91 at Casey's for the Ducati. Mileage went from 42 down to 38. Just filled it with Phillips 66, within 10 miles I was back to 42.5. How do they put filler in gas? Is it the same volume but less weight? Air?
  18. I was texted by a rider that has one and wants $4500. It's a nice bike with a salvage title. I told him to post it here. If anyone is interested, PM and I'll give you his number. He's moved out of state and works for an auction house. He's the fellow I posted about that was the broker for Steve McQueen's $250k Husky. He'll put it in the Las Vegas auction otherwise.
  19. $4k, that's what I paid for this one. And it was the bike that was photo'd for "Motorcyclist" magazine. It's got 70k on it now
