It’s possible but it would take someone very skilled so it doesn’t distort. Fortunately the barrels aren’t rare. A brand new barrel is $900. Brand new. I have a couple spares, with broken fins. He tore it down, welded it with a borrowed torch and a coat hanger, and raced the next day. Still amazes me.

If it were not for these 'garage built' bikes, and the history, people, and passion behind them, the only thing in the Mfg showrooms today would be dirt bikes, repli-racers, and touring. What a boring world. I welcome them, ugly and stupid as some may be. They foster new blood, new culture, and excitement. Chopper, bobber, brat, street fighter, street tracker, scrambler, cafe,... all from some greasy guys just wanting to have something different and cool. I love these shows and I miss out on too many. Sbuonline..... seems there are simultaneous threads for your clutch query. The "button" mentioned here is the same part I referred to as a "cup" in the other thread. So as not to confuse further.

since they list a California on the link as compatible, it's for a 5 speed. You would not use the hub (upper right part) from the kit, but the one in your Tenni will work. The shaft is just a bit shorter. But first, you must either find someone who's done this swap! (5spd RAM on a 6spd trans) OR... contact RAM and/or get someone to confirm the only difference between their 5spd kit and their 6spd kit is the clutch hub and the plate cup. IF this is the case, you will still have to either disassemble the plate kit and change the cup OR determine for sure the actuating rod length, and mill the end to fit the already installed 5spd cup. There is a thread on here somewhere regarding the rod measurements. I think someone has done this. I hope this is not too confusing. I'm just suggesting what I believe will work, and how I'd proceed.

Come on knowing that Moto Guzzi would replace the cases with new ones back in the day under warranty must have given some indication that it would have been a bit of a pain lol. But hey you are having fun. I do not recall that that is what Moto Guzzi offered for that defect. I recall that they would have the dealer "refinish" the cases, or the owner could elect for some compensatory accessories (a jacket or otherwise?). I know one owner who went through the painful disassembly/ refinish process and heard of others who opted for the "accessory" option. Anyone with first-hand experience? couple years late, but I have some first hand knowledge. I bought a new '02 in '03 and at a dealer (now outa business), was given the choice of case replacement or MG's best riding gear, or tank and tail bag with tail rack. I shuddered at the idea of my incompetent dealer rebuilding my great performing motor for just paint. I chose the riding gear and waited.......waited......... then MG USA went temporarily ass over tit, and I forgot about it. Fixed now, but I could have lived with it.

The single plate clutch paired with the aluminum flywheel was oem for 6 speed spine frame models - Tenni, Scura, and Rosso Mandello year '01 and '02. One labeled '03 is likely a carryover, but may vary in some countries. The alm flywheel is not guaranteed to break. The number that have and the consequences if it does, is enough for most folks to swap it out. Your stock 6 speed will accept the dual plate/steel flywheel found on all the other 6 speed V11 models. It will also accept the RAM single plate/steel (lightened) flywheel. The RAM is the easiest and least expensive swap but sadly, no longer available. (although you may find one in Europe) "In Theory", the RAM 5 speed http://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193&products_id=1698set up will work, but you must use the clutch hub from the Tenni. I "think" the clutch hub, and the pressure plate cup (which comes installed in the pre-asembled and balanced RAM kit) http://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193&products_id=221 in combo with the clutch activation rod, are the only differences with the 5spd and 6spd kits. Some members have discussed and speculated regarding this option, but as yet, I don't know of definitive proof. Some reading to get you started, if interested. just to piggyback this, if I may, just curious. My '03 LeMans came with a 15M.C7 labeled V11 LM MY '02 (uninstalled) The unit installed on the bike is a 15M.C3 and lableled California S. I don't know the tune history, but the bike was equipped with Xover and Ti cans. So, either the Cal S works with the new "flow", or that was just a re-mapped (I suspect) unit. The bike ran beautifully.

It looks like your route takes you by the grounds of Gen. Custer's miscalculation. The 'Ranger talk' that is sometimes available, is not to be missed. It would be worth it to try to align your tour schedule with theirs if at all possible. The 45 min presentation I attended in the afternoon, (by accident) was an account of the weeks and days leading up to, during, and after the battle. My talk was given by a Native female Ranger, giving both military and Native accounts, and at times was visibly moved.

The frame vent area, with 2 holes threaded and a nipple to plug, it looks like something you could flush out fairly (though a pita) easily ( with funnels hoses and buckets). Possibly even air pressure test. I believe I'd get at least 2 gl of diesel fuel and some cone paint filters (large coffee filters might work) to catch the bits ... so I could use the same fuel several times And see what comes out. At first splash, I'd wait to see if that blocking plate is going to leak. ... put a pan under it, and flush it anyway. It's an understandable concern you have for protecting the new motor.
