  1. I have always done neck bearings as one would do the old style wheel bearings. I would tighten up the nut till you feel resistance then simply back off a hair and set it there. As you notice it is mostly feel. Some like the steering head bearings tight while of course others like them loose. I could tell you my rule of thumb but in the end it is really personal feel. I do mine like this too.
  2. That's a very well done custom. A blend of KTM/Buell influences. Bikes built to showcase creative abilities would appeal 'for sale' to a very limited crowd I would think.
  3. I'm, just jealous Scud. MG obviously hit the mark with the Scura, as evidenced by the last of the line "R", AND the lack of them for sale compared to the rest.
  4. at least we have a fairly concise list for Tenni. No one chimes in from somewhere in the world with "I have one with no number" or "I have #207" Scura are another matter. They are like centipedes - flip over a rock and Scura scurry in all directions...
  5. My bike is a 5.5 and takes a 180 and I will be switching to 170 for a trial next time. Many riders at my old BMW dealer did that swap, as did I on my R1100s. There is, at least some consensus on the web, that the mfg's addition of a wide tire to many sport-style bikes, was purely for the look.
  6. Plus the "additional" 300 un-numbered Rosso Mandello = 1470? 300 un-numbered Rosso's? do tell........ or a link to that story please...
  7. "Otherwise, be sure to keep your Ravelli aqilla facing forward, and change your oil religiously (like with incense or incantations). Not that we are superstitious sorts. Nope-nope, not we Italian motorbike sorts. Not us, nope. Knock on wood. Nudge-nudge, wink-wink ; / Know what I mean- know what I mean?" And enough tire (docc) to get a lap on the skyway
  8. The photos show a good representation of the '02 bubbling engine block paint, for those who were/are curious. Mine looks just like that and I don't find it bothersome.

Guilty. . . . . I'd like to think they have a proper coat of copper antisieze on their threads. The top two are still the original cross-head screws. Not sure why. She has a few *character lines* now, the old girl . . . What have I done now..... Is there some sort of nasty interaction using stainless bolts in aluminum?
  10. here is a smaller one. This is a good way to not have to use a photo host when you just want to have an "example" photo for something.
  11. "you host your photos on line somewhere like Smugmug then link the pic by pasting the code.. on smugmug calle dthe BBcode." Yes, you can host your photos. Or, in many instances, you can just go find a photo... copy... come back here and paste it. It works much of the time. I'm not sure why it doesn't always work, size or file or somewhat. edit. this pic was huge. hence the distortion
  12. The K&N shot..... VERY tidy. CF on the belly would look great, but since it would have to be faux, I'd go with black too. I'm also interested in how she runs with the new breathers. Great looking bike.
  13. I'm still curious why the original rod won't fit the original 6 speed clutch hub perfectly, as it came out of the bike. Does the 6 speed hub not fit into the 5 speed clutch at the splines? As has been mentioned, your original should fit into the new clutch and replace the one that came with the 5 speed assembly.
  14. more zinc chromate! http://www.ebay.com/itm/122229415865?ul_noapp=true
  15. I agree with the 'dirt bike first' approach. As with what's been said regarding familiarization, etc, while off road, you'll get to focus on the bike and not the traffic. If you don't go that route, just listen to your Uncle. Sounds like he'll steer you right.
  16. Thanks, Chuck. Good to know. I didn't even add a terminal end in order to minimize the number of connections. Perhaps this latest approach will hold for a good long time. Alternate Method E ! Which begs the question.. What gets used for wire connections in airplanes? Presumably the very best possible, most reliable connection? Can we use them here?

That sounds nice. I will be following with much interest. I haven't found my paint yet but this is it. DanR - the post a few down. http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8280 I have it around here somewhere. I recall at least the cap looking very similar to my Tenni

"further complicated by my trying to "loose" the passenger seat cowl in favor of a stylized bum-stop seat . . ." is your aim to have a solid vinyl seat bum stop, like a Corbin? or bodywork to replace the cowl, as in filling in the cowl seams to make the tail all one piece? I have a Corbin you can borrow to do a mock-up if it would help. It's for an early model and is black with grey cowl area.

In your search, consider picking up a can of Dupli-color self etching primer. Worse case you can use it around the shop. I liked the cap color a lot but it does not come close to my Tenni, which, I think is also not very close to the original dustbin. The newer Tenni Green is even further from the original, imo. I did find a cap color at Lowes that came really close to the Tenni, but I've misplaced it. Will get back to you. I like green things too.
  21. what a beauty Chuck. Hope to see it someday. I live just south of you in Indy. I made the Guzzi lunch one time, and met some fine folks. Does that occur once a week or monthly?
  22. My former wife is a Brit. We went to Jolly Old several times. Once, my father in law, who lived in the US but was a native Brit, imported one of his American cars, to England, and we went out for a spin. It was a left hand drive TR7, and that twisted calculation confused him enough to choose the right lane for a few hundred yards. Until oncoming cars set him straight. "I couldn't make out where the hell I was!" Very scary. Glad it was him that did it. Always good when yer father in law screws up. The trick to remember is that the 'car' driver in whatever country, is seated near the center line of the road. It was a hoot to drive there, especially the countryside. Now, a motorcycle .... different story. That would take some learnin' especially with all those country pubs, and every freakin one of them full of irresistible ales! dang, let's GO! Spine Raid UK!
  23. https://www.bellperformance.com/fuel-treatment/ethanol-defense Interesting product. I'm wary of additives, but will investigate it further. Thanks for the tip!
