  1. On this subject..... What IS the best hose clamp. In some instances I use the typical 3 prong spring clamp. They don't always provide confidence inspiring security. For more secure connections I use the common screw clamp. They have a tendency to cut into the hose. Then there is the bent wire/bolt nut clamp. Hard to find in good sizes and even then are bulky. I've often thought of using those factory one time clamps, but never end up researching the process. I wonder what airplane builders use???
  2. Honestly, you'll have to put in some time on it to know for sure how you'll be affected. More directly, you're a good size for this bike, but depending on your personal comfort needs. If you were small of stature, I'd say the LM is somewhat of a reach to the bars. If you're not used to clip-ons, your arms and neck will get sore until you are. The Tenni was my first sport style bike. Like you, I could not resist it. Coming from an upright riding position, my 'cruiser' buddies would remark regarding the sporting ergos, "man, that looks uncomfortable", and the old "monkey f@@king a football" comparisons. When it comes to my body, any riding position for an extended time makes something on me sore. When I toured upright, my back hurt and I leaned forward, ala crotch rocket, to get relief. Touring leaned forward caused neck pain and I would periodically sit up for relief. (as you will see many sport riders do) The LM, for me (6'0"-175#), is a perfect combo of sport and standard. The fairing creates an envelope, at the speeds I like to ride, which allows me a fairly comfortable, lengthy ride. All the while, the bike emitting the Guzzi stuff that makes the universe complete. Any bike you love can be made to "fit" IMO. In case you didn't know, fit wise, the stock 03 LM has the same ergos as the Tenni. Trying it on for size may be helpful. If you are referring to the heads as potentially fowling your knees, they do not. Our tallest members may have a comment. My good friend (6'3") rode mine and his only complaint was knees. His are going bad. That can be fixed with previously suggested foot peg lowering brackets.
  3. Beautiful Spot! is that Alfa BAT 9 in the garage?
  4. I had a used RM alm flywheel in my hands this past summer. It had no markings on it and looked, from what I can tell, exactly like the oem alm one in the photo provided by Scud. It had no damage, but appeared to have tiny casting flaws that 'could' develop into something. The flaws were on the outer rim area, not the center as most fractures.
  5. would that be the Angel ST, or GT's Chuck? I used Road Attacks on my K1200rs and liked them a lot. Is the "kid" on the forum/pics of the Spot? We like Spots!

interesting color differences of the "chromate", I like the shade of #17. And what a great looking bike.

    Lovely!
  8. it helps when being a little bit off either direction does not result in damage, as in neck bearings. Or even old style wheel bearings as long as you check them. I can explain a wheelie, but my last one threw me off and broke my leg. So much for knowledge.
  9. I have always done neck bearings as one would do the old style wheel bearings. I would tighten up the nut till you feel resistance then simply back off a hair and set it there. As you notice it is mostly feel. Some like the steering head bearings tight while of course others like them loose. I could tell you my rule of thumb but in the end it is really personal feel. I do mine like this too.
  10. That's a very well done custom. A blend of KTM/Buell influences. Bikes built to showcase creative abilities would appeal 'for sale' to a very limited crowd I would think.
  11. I'm, just jealous Scud. MG obviously hit the mark with the Scura, as evidenced by the last of the line "R", AND the lack of them for sale compared to the rest.

    "Move that bus!"
  13. at least we have a fairly concise list for Tenni. No one chimes in from somewhere in the world with "I have one with no number" or "I have #207" Scura are another matter. They are like centipedes - flip over a rock and Scura scurry in all directions...
  14. My bike is a 5.5 and takes a 180 and I will be switching to 170 for a trial next time. Many riders at my old BMW dealer did that swap, as did I on my R1100s. There is, at least some consensus on the web, that the mfg's addition of a wide tire to many sport-style bikes, was purely for the look.
  15. Plus the "additional" 300 un-numbered Rosso Mandello = 1470? 300 un-numbered Rosso's? do tell........ or a link to that story please...
  16. "Otherwise, be sure to keep your Ravelli aqilla facing forward, and change your oil religiously (like with incense or incantations). Not that we are superstitious sorts. Nope-nope, not we Italian motorbike sorts. Not us, nope. Knock on wood. Nudge-nudge, wink-wink ; / Know what I mean- know what I mean?" And enough tire (docc) to get a lap on the skyway
  17. The photos show a good representation of the '02 bubbling engine block paint, for those who were/are curious. Mine looks just like that and I don't find it bothersome.

Guilty. . . . . I'd like to think they have a proper coat of copper antisieze on their threads. The top two are still the original cross-head screws. Not sure why. She has a few *character lines* now, the old girl . . . What have I done now..... Is there some sort of nasty interaction using stainless bolts in aluminum?
  19. here is a smaller one. This is a good way to not have to use a photo host when you just want to have an "example" photo for something.
  20. "you host your photos on line somewhere like Smugmug then link the pic by pasting the code.. on smugmug calle dthe BBcode." Yes, you can host your photos. Or, in many instances, you can just go find a photo... copy... come back here and paste it. It works much of the time. I'm not sure why it doesn't always work, size or file or somewhat. edit. this pic was huge. hence the distortion
  21. The K&N shot..... VERY tidy. CF on the belly would look great, but since it would have to be faux, I'd go with black too. I'm also interested in how she runs with the new breathers. Great looking bike.
  22. I'm still curious why the original rod won't fit the original 6 speed clutch hub perfectly, as it came out of the bike. Does the 6 speed hub not fit into the 5 speed clutch at the splines? As has been mentioned, your original should fit into the new clutch and replace the one that came with the 5 speed assembly.
  23. more zinc chromate! http://www.ebay.com/itm/122229415865?ul_noapp=true
  24. I agree with the 'dirt bike first' approach. As with what's been said regarding familiarization, etc, while off road, you'll get to focus on the bike and not the traffic. If you don't go that route, just listen to your Uncle. Sounds like he'll steer you right.
