  1. Right o, i'll re-fit and see how i go i suppose. The pistons wouldn't retract independently when it was looked at, so poss just a bit of crud in the system.
  2. New disc already on old bean! Seriously, the old one was distorted quite alarmingly- i'd say about 3-4mm out of flat. Which lead me to the notion of shimming the caliper.
  3. Master Cylinder corrodes so piston doesn't fully return blocking hole to reservoir , owner adjusts clearance on pedal because it now appears to have loads of travel, goes for a ride and when the brake warms up the fluid expands but can't get to the reservoir so applies brake instead creating more heat and more pressure and so on....Don't ask how I know this Well I stripped&cleaned it and it looked very good inside, thankfully. Couple of teeny nicks on the sleeve... but took them back with a bit of wet+dry. Chuck- I found a old post mentioning cone-shaped, warped discs (mine also is very badly coned) and poss shimming the caliper across to counter this somehow? I'd have though the caliper would be 'self-adjusting' for lateral grippage? However, I'm on the verge of fitting a couple of washers between the hanger and caliper... Do we have any thoughts about this here and now in the really real times?
  4. Heh! Sometimes i forget that i'm a plasterer and not a mechanic! Of course it's my error, just cos i thought i'd bled it well, doesn't mean i did so. (Sorry Brembo!) This time I'll take all the good advice here and try to do the job reet. Hashtag Contrition, hashtag Justcosyouownaguzzidoesntmakeyouwellversedinmechanicals.
  5. I have just toasted the snit out of my rear disc, which melted the lovely gold anodising and left it crisp-shaped. Hashtag sadface. The cylinder looked clean enough on disassembly.... got a replacement disc coming tomo but concerned it'll happen again... Why are these rear brakes so crap? Always thought brembo were highly thought of...
  6. Without a doubt. Assuming he can still support the guzz.
  7. I like the o-ring idea. I usually slather the outside face of the area with heavy grease before assembly. Incidentally, my rear wheel has been off and on a few times these past months. Despite periodically rotating the inner race of the bearing and packing more grease into the needles, there are still signs of wear.

There's one in Newcastle for sale!! Alas and Alack, for tis priced at a decidedly salty £9,995... How much are kidneys worth? (My wife has 2) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-Moto-guzzi-V11-0cc-Sport-Tourer-BLACK-/122239012406?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
  9. Wasn't there talk (from the 'tricians amongst us) that a low idle would adversely affect the charging system?
  10. I agree- and i've noticed quite some difference depending on the tyres fitted too. I'm liking the Pirelli gt's currently on, they feel very neutral. The st's were definitely better thru the front but wore so quickly... The engine braking on the v11 is fierce! I tend to use it to 'set the speed' for cornering when riding quickly thru the bends- if i'm using the brakes to adjust my speed it's usually due to mis-reading the corner. I find there is just too much weight in the bike to take any chances. My old honda rs250a on the other hand...!
  11. Mine required new inlet rubbers and a tps reset to cure the 3k stutter.
  12. The forward balance pipe may well add gains somewhere... but does nowt fer the looks! Ha!
  13. Nice! I love the V11 LM fairing- all avionic n ting. Yes you can get it running just sweet as a nut. And this is the place to do so. x
  14. Are we talking unexpected braking here? Like 'arse- this corner is kinda tight' braking? I'm not sure why anyone would trail-brake in normal conditions. Doesn't everyone just brake, turn and accelerate? I went out today especially to mither the brakes in corners: I found the front is fine for slowing when canted over unless you grab it and fixate on the edge of the road- which one might do if taken unawares. The rear seemed kinda unnecessarily fussy, and occupied valuable brain, unless I expected to be going too fast. In which case i thought "i am going faster than i can anticipate.” So why do that?
  15. Here's the unused, second-hand shaft: On the original shaft, the splined portion protruded beyond the end of the tube, whereas on this shaft the splines are 'recessed' slightly into the tube.
  16. Something that's been on my mind for a while, and maybe i'm imagining it??: I've been wondering if the suspension alters slightly from quite hard when cold to when a few miles have gone by- seems to loosen up, poss due to warming up?? Anyone else notice this and do people take this into account when setting sag and compression etc?
  17. I've found they are susceptible to bad routing- have you tried adjusting it?
  18. It's quite an eye-opener following someone who's good thru the bends. I did a short one-on-one course last year where the battery died in the intercom and I followed the instructor back to base to swap it- he was hustling a big bmw at speed thru many roundabouts to make up time. Wow. So quick, so smooth, so seemingly effortless. The v11 is a pretty heavy lump- i bet the best thing for good results would be to get the suspension set right? I'd love to have a bash on an ohlins v11 to compare to mine...
  19. Ok, in the morning...
  20. Hmmm, dammit i should've taken a side-by-side pic shouldn't I? Too much of a hurry to get it re-assembled... They were definitely different lengths, by about a quarter inch I'd say.
  21. Hi up folks, I got the second-hand shaft thru and she's all buttoned up and rides fine (yay). However, the replacement was not identical to the original. (I ended up using the original 'male' part with the new 'female' part). It seemed shorter- would this be from the earlier, short wheelbase model perchance?
  22. Damn our bikes look good!
  23. Wups, sorry buddy, it mounts to the footrest hangers. Iirc there's a 5 kilo limit stickum on it... but as i am a cheeky egg, i must've put about 6-7 in it with no adverse effects.
  24. I bought steve s's old one- true, they aren't nearly as pretty as the lovely stucci ones but are perfectly functional. New price seems steep though...
  25. Well I now have some replacements. Mcgill motorsports sell 'ultra high mega superb performance' rod ends, so i got some and they look great- fat, thick, quality metal b*stards you could concuss a honey badger with. Service was top notch too- order processed and sent out the same day, received the following morning! http://www.mcgillmotorsport.com/male-rod-ends-metric-xm-racing-series-chromoly-kevlar-ultra-high-performance/
