Fine by me. I just find the South African accent in general rather charming, and someone getting scientific about how to get on a motorcyle with that accent slightly amusing. :)

My fault for the misunderstanding. You got your post in while I was responding to Phil and I forgot to 'quote' him. Looks like I need some 'how to work internet stuff' lessons as well as how to get on and off my bike:huh:

No doubt, the unique vulnerabilities of our Rube Goldberg V11 sidestand should not be overlooked. The smaller fastener (red circle) is found loose too often. and the larger fastener is torqued to an impressive 70 Nm!

Well if it's on youtube it must be fine then! Do BMW Gs's have a history of damaging side stand mounts and crankcase mounts like the V11's? Do our bikes sit as upright on the side stand as the bike shown? ( I notice he has the front wheel deliberately in a depression in the track) Every bike and side stand is unique and the v11 Series is known for less than robust side stand mounts. Your bike your risk but to other's here they might want to consider the individual bike and it's mechanics before making a habit of getting on it as shown.

I can attest that the sidestand on 1150GS's is entirely fooked, in all regards. Far more anxious than the V11's.
That said, the only sidestands I would ever trust to horse-mount are big H-Ds and Moto Guzzi Police Tontis.

My 1150RT was a police model, and that side stand was bullet proof.  But the fact that they advertised how much better it was does indeed imply that the non-cop 1150’s must have been suspect.
All this focus on the horse mount implies a demographic of riders that are “not very tall” while also not gymnasts.  The high goose step onto the v11 is a piece of cake for yours truly (compared to multistrada, etc), though folding my legs up into position for long distances is a challenge.

I feel pretty confident mounting my NTX like that. It has a pretty stout sidestand. The damn thing is so high and with bags on I sort of have to.

I actually learned that I needed to mount this way on my K1200RS as it was a giant and the bags were always on. The R1100S was even worse with the very high mounted pillion cover that I could not help but drag my foot across.

fwiw, I don't yet need to do this on the V11. The FJ09 was impossible to mount otherwise. The DR650 is tall, strong and steady, and I will always mount it Horse style.

Youth has a way of deceiving a man, but he will learn. Things change and the body calls you out.

I promise I'll report a broken kick stand if it ever happens. Till then I'll do what I have to do to get in the saddle.

I see all of can't wait for the campire to hear the real trick. Just to build in some extra safeguard, here are some exercises. (3 times a week).
