  1. I found the lady worth taking a picture in front of my V11... now I just need to make time so she can be blessed with a Guzzi picture... do you see how she waves at me?

  2. Rare (very rare) coincidence of time and weather today for a ride (mid-winter). Every time I ride to "Belfast" I think of @belfastguzzi.

  4. Maybe there is someone here in the same country as the seller who would be willing to receive the part on your behalf and post it on to you.

  5. Sorry, had to abandon the relay swap as my garage became a mosquito haven this afternoon-humid, crazy weather in Sydney today. On to it again tomorrow… And haven’t forgotten the 3 Tenor’s (Tenni’s) photo request footgoose….when the eldest is behaving himself again!!!

  6. Many thanks again audiomick…I was hoping someone would say on the wiring diagram 1 and 3 look to be reversed…! nothing was making sense if green/grey were for high beam with only a high beam light on the dash! Yes, good tip…..will label the wires to each relay when swapping/replacing and let you guys know more in a few hours…

  7. And another thing. This is all very hypothetical, so don't just take it as granted. Getting back to the two green wires, one on battery plus and one on battery minus. Given that it seems that whoever did the mods to the wiring did it all fairly conventionally, it remains a mystery why one green wire is plus, and the other is minus. According to convention (as I know it...) green is usually used for "earth" (or yellow/green). Assuming the man was following convention, that would indicate that both green wires should be on the minus pole of the battery. So if we assume that the green wires on the battery are the same green wires on the relays, and that they are connected to 85/86 on the relays, and that the green wire on battery plus is actually intended to be the "earth" for the switching side of the relay that should be switching on the low beam, i.e. the way back to the battery from the green/grey wire on the relay, and therefore should actually be on battery minus then, when the ignition is on and the light switch is on "low beam", the switching side of the relay will be "seeing" 12V at both ends of the coil (because the green wire is on plus instead of minus), and therefore wont pull in and switch on the low beam. If we further assume that there is a really grotty connection somewhere along the path of the green/grey wire up to the relay, then it might be possible that enough current leak is happening (from the connector to the frame or engine/gearbox case, somwhow) to pull in the relay when the ignition is off and activate the relay and turn on the low beam. (12 V through the green wire from battery plus to the switching side of the relay, and back to the battery through the shitty connection, somehow) As I said, pure speculation, but maybe the relay is ok (test it as described above) and you have one or several bad (really dirty) connections. Which brings us back to the point, regardless of how the relay checks out: check and clean all the connections. And trace all the wires back and make a diagramm. And don't just swap wires around on spec. Follow the wires and understand what is supposed to be happening first. Shorting the battery is not a good idea.

  8. You guys are unbelievably knowledgeable on these electrical matters…! Having a look this morning at your responses and the bike….hopefully answering a couple of your questions… Low beam and front brake were not working when bike arrived. Maybe disturbed on long truck/train interstate journey as the bike was on the road in November last year.. Front brake micro switch replaced…problem solved. Low beam issue…there are 2 extra headlight shell mounted relays, both Bosch 0332019150. With reference to the terrific colour chart by audiomick earlier in this topic, the Green/grey wire from headlight connector travels through a relay where power confirmed going in but not out. The brown wire travels through the other relay which I originally thought was to improve starting. Now I am convinced that this relay is for high beam. Today I will reconfirm power in/out but in any event there is no problem with high beam. Unless you guys think otherwise, I will order 2 Bosch relays. And from digikey a batch of new underseat relays. Agree that previous owner(s) of this Tenni likely made a fair effort to improve/repair. And I won’t undo their endeavours in a rash manner…. Have a few weeks until the Tenni’s (repaired) tachometer arrives from Germany. If I can fix low beam in the interim - the bike can at least go back on the road…. Regards, tennitragic

  13. I know what you mean by having the sensation of going fast. I was thinking about that yesterday when I was on a familiar moderately curvy road with my Greenie. It was quite exhilarating at 50 mph — controlled and planted, but fun as hell! — whereas my Duc Hypermotard (a fun as hell bike, too!) on the same road and at the same speed the feeling is, for lack of a better word, tamer, or maybe it’s being more upright that has less speed impressed. Totally different rides, power-to-weight ratios, riding position, etc. I guess that’s a compliment to both of those bikes, but the V11 is a more visceral ride. The weight and mass of the bike seems to want more body English and weight shifting. On the V11 one feels more ā€œinā€ the bike, and with the Hyper one feels more ā€œonā€ the bike. Tuono V4 is a a whole other beast! That’s a nice stablemate for the V11, for sure!

  14. I bought my V11 LM Rosso Corsa in spring 2003 as I was getting bored with my then motorcycle (a too perfect BMW K1200RS) and wanted something totally different. When I saw the Rosso Corsa, I immediately fell in love with its (or should I say "her"?) looks. During the following months, I test rode a number of very diffferent bikes (BMW R1100S and R; Aprilia Falco and Futura; etc). When I rode the V11, however, she immediately gave me a big smile, which lasted the entire day until I had to hand her back to the dealer and return home withe the BMW. The V11 is a truly living machine with its imperfections (aka "character") that makes every ride an emotional experience. Also, on my Guzzi, I have the impression to go fast even when I am only doing 80 Km/Hr, which is a key advantage in Belgian traffic conditions marked by speed cameras and increasingly repressive controls. Still, when midlife crisis hit, I added a Tuono V4 1100 RF to the stable, as my Nordschleife toy. Even with such tough competition, the V11 is still my favorite.

  15. While in the "Romance Languages" the gender is preselected, "American English" is neutral gender. (I cannot speak for our broader English speaking brothers as we are "separated by a common language." ) Yet, as gender pertains to the animism of machines, my motorcycles are decidedly feminine. How could I know? Their beauty and allure? Their vexing way of engaging me in their ways? My inexplicable devotion and unfettered desire to be with them? Bikes aren't chick magnets. They're dude magnets. I'm pretty well stuck to mine. On the other hand, my tractors and trucks are masculine things. They have scars, and deference, and a certain willingness to serve at their expense. My ///M roadster? She confuses me. I parked her ass-end over a curb today, badly. She seemed to say, "Whatever. Just don't do it again." Is "CowGirl" a special gender?

  16. The best of the last of the analog bikes. Also, Guzzis seem female to me. In the good way. They look good, they sound good, they require and respond to attention. Etc. BMWs always felt male, like, let's go drink fifty beers. English and Japanese bikes never struck me either way.

  18. Huh? Why? SEX of course! This exact Classic shot initially hooked me… after having been psychologically primed by following events… Recently returned from my older brother’s funeral - he was the good, sensible, clean living one. Dead at fifty - stomach cancer. Dirt bikes busted my teen bones, family urged ā€˜keep off ā€˜em - you’re gonna kill yourself’! So after my brother, with a GS mate goading ā€˜get back in the saddle’ - I couldn’t see the point preserving my skin just for bloody cancer or some-such to do me down. From the (then) new V7 - googled older Guzzi’s, & came across the V11… Damn! Smitten on ā€˜puter looks alone! Tracked my Scura R down on the Isle of Man - it’s delivery was the first V11 I’d ever seen - in all her voluptuous flesh! Like a well-thumbed Penthouse centrefold vision rolling down the ramp - a slightly breathless moment & I’ve never tired of riding her since! Mae West said it best. ā€œSex is emotion in motion.ā€ šŸ‘šŸ˜Ž

  19. Psychology of a moto-enthusiast is a daring subject. As a life long rider I will say that I had ZERO interest in Guzzi until 2002 when I saw the Tenni in the flesh. At that moment I knew that all other mfg's had abandoned me. But they say love is a convergence of chemistry and timing, and the door of Zen opened wide for me. kensho - seeing into ones true nature. So yeah, ... I'm odd.

  20. I am currently looking for various parts all over the world and have had good luck finding someone selling most of them. Often just one guy and his ad says ā€œwill not ship to US ā€œ. I just questioned a guy in the UK and he said he won’t sell to the US or Canada because he can’t get parts insured. Sometimes a seller will ship if I say please but often not. It’s very frustrating when only one guy is selling what you need .
