I'll be in the Harper/Anthony KS area Thursday AM so could make either one. Which Pawnee restaurant?

I've got a surplus speedo cable off my 2004 V11 having gone the Speedhut route. Got it from MG Cycle a few thousand mile ago and bent it a bit more to clear my throttle linkage. Works fine...replaced the gauge due to issues with the trip odo. Preference given to the first one that calls dibs AND shows up at Cedar Vale, KS next month for a hand-off. https://www.v11lemans.com/forums/topic/28546-cedar-vale-ks-spring-2023/

Installation complete and road tested. All is well. Dial and needle lighting go thru switched power, the GPS runs direct to the battery. Was surprised that the GPS current draw (pre- and post signal acquisition) was just over 100mA, which explains why my battery was so low after sitting for two days. Fortunately, I can break the connection to the battery easily to avoid running it down. Oh...Speedhut is discontinuing their current gauge models ("EL lighting") and replacing them with "LED lighting" 1 May 2023. They will look different at night, so if you're running a Speedhut/OEM combo and thinking of replacing the OEM in the future, you might want to get your order in. I was also told the face of the new gauge has a slightly different "texture" and will also not match. On the plus side...no inverter required for lighting!

Ok..now can we discuss the merits of consuming 8.8lb of this.....material....daily?

Decades ago, working at the missile factory, hardware I was responsible for was Cd plated. But as this got additional visibility (OSHA website): Cadmium and its compounds are highly toxic and exposure to this metal is known to cause cancer and targets the body's cardiovascular, renal, gastrointestinal, neurological, reproductive, and respiratory systems. changed out to CRES.

Love the bike. My first new bike purchase was a '77 xs650. $1999. Learned all about carbon brushes on the side of I-8 around 3AM. Packing for road trips was......creative. -
Understood. The dial lighting is powered off the supplied inverter while the needle lighting goes directly to 12V. My electrical connections weren't robust during the systems test...and if I wind up without a lit needle once installed it'll be a small price to pay to avoid removing/reinstalling the OEM gauge cups.

The Speedhut speedo install is proceeding slowly. Leveraged Scud's lamp fixture idea, but I wanted to distribute the loading across a larger area of the speedo's case so Macgyvered this: Gorilla glued the step-up washers and lamp nut together as an assy then JB welded it to the back of the case. Finally, loctited the center post in place. While the "center" post is off center, the assy (including the gauge) was installed in the OEM gauge cup for the JB weld and now slips easily slip in/out of said cup. I have a direct line to the battery available to power the GPS, will use one of the now unused OEM speedo lights to power the speedo needle/dash lighting. System test went ok, with gps acquiring and dash lighting functional...though the jury is out about the needle lighting. I had to turn off the shop lights to see the subtle dash lighting...maybe the needle is subtler!

Yup, that's ma boy Adam. Hope he didn't talk your ear off for an hour during your stop. It was great chatting with you at CV, passing each other by in Coffeyville, KS (that was you, right?) on the way home. I'll PM you cell/email for that selfie you took.- 111 replies

Sure it wasn't operator error with your new truck? -
I was afraid of what it might have been about....

I had the same concern, having poor luck with red farkles on the Ducati. With respect to the base C/F, my mind's eye didn't see it integrating well with the balance of my bike's black butt...so it was going to be a different "look"...but meh. I decided that if it wasn't going to integrate well...it really needed to stand out on its own..a trade-off I decided to go for even if the color match wasn't perfect. (Disclaimer: The wife played no role in this aesthetic evaluation and shall not be held liable for any of my poor decisions.)

I'm in for a red one, if you please. In the meantime, I can start looking for a headlight brow and curbfinders.....

Check this....make sure throttle cable isn't interfering with the linkage. (Had a similar experience.)

I attended a two day school run by them a few years ago in North Las Vegas. It's a first class experience and glad I did it. Never attended a track day before, so just being on a track was new..throw in class time with track time and the sensory inputs were borderline overwhelming. Interesting pitches during class of the science behind the techniques presented. I recall being exhausted/sore after the first day..oh..and frustrated that I couldn't find a legitimate massage anywhere that evening.() IMO it's perfect for someone who does attend track days and looking for techniques/critiques on how to improve lap times. Applicability to the street is more limited (though still useful). Exploring personal/vehicle limits on public thoroughfares... Obligatory pic....
