I thought you authored the quintessential thread on "Greasing that #$%& farking front U" . . . . At 113,000 miles, I'm "pretty sure" I got grease in it two or three times. I've just resigned myself to pulling the swingarm every third rear tire change . . .
  2. Just trying to wrap my head around the practical math . . . So, as the V11 11/32 is 2.9:1, the others are both much "taller" ratios? 8/33 = ~4.1, and 7/33 + ~ 4.7 (even "taller", yet)? And "taller" would lower the RPM at a given speed? And a lower (?) gearing, like the V11, makes for more aggressive take-off?
  3. What a great trip! Thanks so much for sharing it and checking in! I'm not hearing anything untoward. If she fails to ignite the starter at any point, hold the the clutch ever in, keep the starter button down, and rotate the bars lock-to-lock. (Clutch lock-out bullet connectors) . . . Any hiccups get troublesome, replace Relay#5 with a known good relay. Them-thar High Current OMRON are the way to go! Otherwise, any fresh micro relay is likely to get you down the road a piece. Carry extras. Do you have voltmeter to monitor the battery?
  4. I've seen this 8x33 and 7x33 thing before. I realize it the tooth count on the pinion and ring, but do not recall what this is for the V11 (?)
  5. What do a pair of stock rubber intakes cost these days? (Mikko just picked up a set . . .) Ditto on my not likely going to pods, but these are kewl! (Do they come in black?)
  6. 4) Keep the oil topped up (above halfway between the marks). It’s one simple thing you can do to keep the pick-up in the soup. The oil can be checked in the sidestand. The stick hits the sump in the center either way. 5) Pretty sure it’s never 95F/35C in northern Italy. The V11 do not like high ambient temps. There are lots of approaches to that, one of which is to ride north. You’ve got that in the works! A “Decent Tune-up” is in order to baseline TPS and zero the CO, but that can wait. Happy travels! Ride well!
  7. These are from our member sp838. I have other printed pieces from him and found them to be well done.
  8. I am not aware of any "hicap" (high capacity?) kits for the V11 electrical system. What would that consist of?
  9. Weber! The Italian connection! So, how do you calculate the torgue for brass nuts? And Loctite?
  10. I seem to recall Scud's investigations revealed an explanation why the up and down tension differ (?) I am anxious to hear what you find as my lever has hesitated in the down position a couple times in the last three thousand miles . . .
  11. It is correct that early V11 have only the one cable. Changeover to two, perhaps, in 2002 with the LongFrame?
  12. What a delight to enjoy Bill's view of SSR XV. (We still don't talk much about SSR One . . . ) A true South'n SpineRaider and treasured friend!
  13. Seems we've seen this one come up before? Definitely not a Nero Corsa, in spite of the tank and tail. The engine and gearbox paint looks tight for an '02. Maybe not so much on the reardrive. Odd mirrors and no bar-end weights. White face Veglia mark it as pre-'03. While the side covers say "V11 LeMans", the steel headlight mounted to the forks are more "V11 Sport." Missing chrome cap from the headset suggest it has been apart at the front end? Can't really tell if the Corsa graphics have bubbled (yet). The seller says "original owner" and "way too much to mention here" . . . so maybe there is something to learn . . . A rare, never-seen-before V11 Nero Sport?
  14. The red Italian single? It’s in the Barber Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. I can’t recall what it is . . . I’ve always longed for an MV Agusta, but doubt any would come in under the “reasonable “ criteria of this thread...
  15. I have used E10 Shell V-Power with good results in the Sport. Other fuels offer more popping and sputtering. Tank swell is a concern especially for winter storage. Apparently, there are stabilizers available specifically for ethanol which may be worth investigating.
  16. "John" is a solid guy = "MotraTech." (As I recall) Good luck sourcing anything he made or supported. Like I said, John is a solid guy.
  17. One of the aspects of the happenstance formula of the current South'n Spine Raid is the serendipity of coming across other SpineRaiders unexpectedly. Like fueling up halfway there and some magnificent V11 (doslemans) rolls in to our delight!
  18. Formula for a Cornfed SpineRaid? "Nashville", (Indiana)
  19. Beck has long had amazing bassists! (Not sure who this is . . .)
  20. Santa, could I please have some luscious 50s-60s Italian single with those delicious curves all over the engine (and tank) for less 5k?
  21. Ah! That makes sense. I've gone up to about 1/4 mile on the tip-slosh. Helps to pin the throttle as any unused fuel is returned to the right side fuel trap. I suspect the internal pump tank is similar, but IDK.
  22. No manual reserve. Petcock only on the left side of the tank. My light flickers dimly at idle or downhill right-handers when the tank needs 4.1-4.2 US gallons (giving me a safe 25 miles of reserve, but maybe not 35. Acceleration or left and uphill extinguishes the light. When the light comes on full bright it is telling you to coast to the roadside and perform the deep Tip-Slosh rescue maneuver. Resetting the trip meter each fill-up and noting your acceptable range becomes the primary refueling alert in most cases.
  23. That raises the question, "What would have broken that stator housing?" Crash damage?
  24. Hey, seriously, I got the privilege to ride a V85TT a few days a go. It made me really nervous to be sitting up, with hands out and feet down (compared to the V11 Sport). The bike was very responsive with its wide bars. The motor is sooooo smooth. Revs so very smoothly to be sneaky-fast. Just no clatter or drama. Sweet clutch pull, quick gearbox, and > zero < driveline lash. It would take me a lot of "getting use-to."
  25. I really wanted to like this new Indian. It's not a V85TT. Biggest difference is the luggage capability and fuel range of the Guzzi. By comparison, the Indian is just a "city bike."
