  1. Thanks, Chuck. Good to know. I didn't even add a terminal end in order to minimize the number of connections. Perhaps this latest approach will hold for a good long time. Alternate Method E ! Which begs the question.. What gets used for wire connections in airplanes? Presumably the very best possible, most reliable connection? Can we use them here?

    EICMA 2016

I would love to get to that show sometime.

    Zinc chromate

That sounds nice. I will be following with much interest. I haven't found my paint yet but this is it. DanR - the post a few down. http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8280 I have it around here somewhere. I recall at least the cap looking very similar to my Tenni

"further complicated by my trying to "loose" the passenger seat cowl in favor of a stylized bum-stop seat . . ." is your aim to have a solid vinyl seat bum stop, like a Corbin? or bodywork to replace the cowl, as in filling in the cowl seams to make the tail all one piece? I have a Corbin you can borrow to do a mock-up if it would help. It's for an early model and is black with grey cowl area.

In your search, consider picking up a can of Dupli-color self etching primer. Worse case you can use it around the shop. I liked the cap color a lot but it does not come close to my Tenni, which, I think is also not very close to the original dustbin. The newer Tenni Green is even further from the original, imo. I did find a cap color at Lowes that came really close to the Tenni, but I've misplaced it. Will get back to you. I like green things too.
  6. what a beauty Chuck. Hope to see it someday. I live just south of you in Indy. I made the Guzzi lunch one time, and met some fine folks. Does that occur once a week or monthly?
  7. My former wife is a Brit. We went to Jolly Old several times. Once, my father in law, who lived in the US but was a native Brit, imported one of his American cars, to England, and we went out for a spin. It was a left hand drive TR7, and that twisted calculation confused him enough to choose the right lane for a few hundred yards. Until oncoming cars set him straight. "I couldn't make out where the hell I was!" Very scary. Glad it was him that did it. Always good when yer father in law screws up. The trick to remember is that the 'car' driver in whatever country, is seated near the center line of the road. It was a hoot to drive there, especially the countryside. Now, a motorcycle .... different story. That would take some learnin' especially with all those country pubs, and every freakin one of them full of irresistible ales! dang, let's GO! Spine Raid UK!
  8. https://www.bellperformance.com/fuel-treatment/ethanol-defense Interesting product. I'm wary of additives, but will investigate it further. Thanks for the tip!
  9. great pics. Thanks for posting.
  10. entertaining, heart warming, and funny. sorry brother Scud, that be funny. good post docc. I'll be there.
  11. Heh - just back from a short ride on a fresh(er) seat that I got from footgoose. Whew - apparently 100,000+ miles are a bit hard on seat foam . . . this is much better. Now to take my original seat to make the custom that I'm being brewing up. We'll have to have a Custom Seat thread! Yes please do! I want to do a new seat too.
  12. I tend to agree. As I described on another 'taller windscreen' thread, my MRA (3") combined with my particular riding position/helmet, created a turbulence that moved my head around a bit too much.
  13. nice write up. thanks
  14. Pretty sure there is only, but at least 1 washer at the top end of the speedo cable.
  15. korect! I forgot about them being even at the front
  16. II suspect the shorter pipe goes on the left as that cylinder is set back of the other.
  17. it's gotta be blowing by somewhere. rings or valve guides? the bike sat unused for a while, yes? I'd just keep an eye on it for awhile. see what develops. Any smoke at start, or while giving it a good rev?
  18. I bought a vacuum pump for my BMW's as recommended. After about 15 min I disconnected it and threw it away. Do as Scud and Roy have said. I would add that I first use a big syringe and suck out my old fluid from the reservoir, and wipe it out with clean cloth and q-tips. Then top up with new. This will save pushing the old fluid thru everything. Just be aware not to let air in the system. My father in law used to swear by the gravity method with his cars. I've never tried it.
  19. Jeeze, He did the Centaro AND the speed triple Triumph. And the Sport/LM. Artist.... wizard. Him with the 850 LM says it all. That's Italian! How old was he? Looks like a rich and full life. Will be missed.
  20. Interesting. I have 2 '02's, one purchased new, and both have needles that faded at the same rate.
  21. I'm with you there! That said, I would also 'assume', and personally 'would' just blank it off. I have done it to mine.
  22. I'm not sure about the reliability of the 04 speedos, but the earlier ones are known to be prone to failure. The needles should sun fade at the same rate. If you noticed the bike looking "tired" as well, I'd say you made a good call by passing on it. There will be more. Too bad though, on the long trip. Welcome to the forum. You'll have fun here.
  23. you make some pretty cool stuff Chuck. I'm honored to have yer part on my bike. Well, when I install it

    Parts Bike

I'm glad it worked out for both of you.
  25. almost exactly 1 yr later... they don't come up very often around here. This is the second EV I've seen for sale near me in a year. It's an '01 with hard bags, looks nicely cared for, 17k mi. $3700. I'm looking at it tomorrow. Just a refresher... 2001 is one of the good years, right?
