  1. SpineRaiders are serious about their TechSessions. "Bring Tools" really struck a chord with HRC_V4 and Tom in VIrginia. Thanks for all the contributions, guys! Other than the miraculous missing (but caught in the wiring harness!) bolt find on Randy's Coppa Italia, the TechSesions were largely electrical . . .

  2. I just had a thought triggered by an issue on the V85TT's caused by what appears to be EMI from the ignition coil affecting the crank angle sensor pickup cable. Causes erratic idle apparently and the Guzzi TSB fix is to re route the wire away from the HT lead I'm led to believe. I was wondering if anybody with the 3000 rpm hiccup as a chronic issue on their bike might like to see if the crank angle sensor pickup cable or connector is anywhere near the HT lead to the sparkplug. Looking at old images of the wiring on my bike before the engine swap the connector and cable were right next to and touching the r/h coil HT lead. Might be worth looking at and if it's close reroute the cable to keep it as far away as possible and see if there is an effect. ( the std cable has lots of length from memory) Ciao

  6. Today, my bike arrived. It is an 8.5/10, with 10 looking new off the showroom floor. I can work with this bike. Everything is there, and she wasn't beat to $h!t like every other V11 I saw locally. Naturally, all the sticky eagle badges are missing. I'll order 4 of those (two for side covers, one for generator cover, a new one for the triple tree)... I didn't get to ride it, and the earliest they can get it in the shop is Nov., so, it is what it is. She started first time, very strong, very nice sounding. The upswept Mistrals (?) have a nice booming sound, but not very obnoxious. No smoke on startup, so valve stem seals should still be okay. When running, held in the clutch...yep, it's a Guzzi. Rattle rattle... I'm more and more getting the appeal of these machines. I asked them to replace all the fluids (incl. fork oil), do throttle sync, valve adjustment, new fuel and vacuum lines, new metal fuel filter, cut me two new key blanks, and mount a set of Diablo IIIs...plus, if they find anything else, I asked them to let me know. Darn, I need to ask them to mount a Roper tray while they have her. No oil starvation for me, please! I didn't realize how tiny the V11 is in person until now. Just slightly bigger than my M696. The V11 is even sexier in person, especially in black. Yowza! I guess I'll get to ride her in 2022, because the shop is swamped with work at the moment. Oh, well. Something to look forward to next year then. Enjoy your V11s, friends. I will join you on the roads with mine next year, unless a miracle occurs...Going to be a loooooong winter.

  8. Well it was good to see everyone and at least make an appearance... Following the electrical discovery in the garage Saturday night, I came to coffee the following morning, and when went to leave the battery completely failed; 12.54v at rest (low from cranking obv.) to 5.4 while attempting to start. That Odyssey PC545 doesn't have 200 miles on it, a few months old, and has been on my NOCO smart charger no less than 3 times for insurance before this trip. So I put everything on the trailer and watched all the Indiana Jones movies. I never realized how awful the sequels are. Monday, moved the truck to put up the other bike, and the bendix on the truck starter exploded. Literally finger-spin dead. Brand new Powermaster $300 unit with *maybe* 2000 miles on it. So unload the one good bike, bring a starter from NAPA and do a parking lot change. We did get home uneventfully, eventually. Bleah.

  12. Nothing more exciting than a new toy! Early Xmas present...enjoy! Maybe you can "sweeten" the incentive for the shop to work on a Sunday or two...several boxes of donuts or kolaches or whatever their favorite snack is might bring you forward in the work queue. Have fun!

  14. I like many things about the new V100, and glad Guzzi is producing a sport touring bike. That said, and coincidentally, Triumph just released their new Speed Triple. All things considered, it's hard not to lean towards this option between the two. Sent from my Pixel 4a using Tapatalk

  15. Hi Chuck, Took some pictures this morning…this is what I have available. Mike had replaced it with a single plate California steel clutch assembly, was particularly hard to find…but he was able to locate one.

  18. I also wanted to report that since the temperatures have considerably cooled down here, in Houston, the V11 does not cough as much as before. I have not done any substantial mileage lately, so it needs confirmation. But I use the bike to run errands, and I have not had any sign so far.

  19. When I was in battle tanks, all the cabling was shielded and tested in a Faraday cage. I am talking about the systems to automatically acquire targets and follow while the tank is moving. To isolate from electrical motors interference. There should be something commercially available for the spark plug cable? no?

  22. Any town with a rail museum, or even just a steam loco on a plinth by their station, should probably make sure those locos are well protected from the elements. The survivors of the Fall may end up needing all of them again.

  25. This also causes me to wonder how much HT coil leads degrade over time and "might-could" make the EMI more pronounced (less contained) . . . (Still my original HT leads/ "spark plug wires" . . .)

What Guzzi should offer is a high interest leasing program to the skeptical ones here, so that those who don't want to keep it, can ride it for 2 or 3 years, enjoy it and then turn it in and not worry about stashing parts for 10-20 years down the road in case you didn't care to keep it longer. That should do away with all of the pooh poohing of the new bikes.

  28. Exactly what I was implying when I said “do you think there’ll be a “v100forum” 20-30 years from now? All these screens, computer crap will have been obsolete and unobtainable. There’s a guy on YouTube sinking large amounts of money into a Ferrari 360 and he needed a engine ECM. Those run 2, he sent the bad one to a company that repairs ecm’s and they can’t fix it. The board was built by a computer and its impossible to replace anything on it. Of course Ferrari no longer supports it and new ones aren’t available. This is where the world is headed. The Rent Seeking class continues to push towards planned obsolescence. We as a race are hurtling headlong into a situation where we are becoming increasingly ignorant and when something catastrophic happens… we’ll, it’ll be back to the Stone Age. Something that I think has happened maybe more then once already. My newest ride is a 2010 Mercedes and it’s full of those devilish German Electrical Gremlins… I had a good laugh looking at their new all electric model and thinking to myself that the 4-5th owner 10 years from now will be eternally screwed instead of thinking what a great deal they got paying 15% of MSRP.

  29. Believe it or not, the maximum speed limit in the whole country is 80 km/h. In Port Vila, the limit is 50 km/h and in some of the villages, even less. However, there are no radars, speed cameras, speed traps or even pursuit vehicles - but any big bike is easily recognised. The ring road is about 160 km so if there are no stops, a bit over two and a half hours if you stick to the limits. A TT? Perhaps with Stelvios or equivalent - but you'd need a lot of people to ensure the pigs and dogs stayed off the road.

  38. Vanuatu? Good stuff! A lot more interesting than Oregon… (in the eye of the beholder) Heavy salt & humidity environment changes the equation a bit, in my opinion. Actually, all the same, but the details get more important. We ran various kinds of batteries and chargers for well over a decade in a (technical) rain forest area on the coast of western Mexico and lots of odd stuff happened over those years. I think the same advice applies, meaning Odyssey batteries, proper charger, deoxit and/or di-electric grease, etc, but be much more careful about connections. That’s Probably all old news to an island resident. I’d just add that odyssey is arguably best choice, and then just need to watch those connections….batt cables, the charger sae connectors, all that stuff has given me issues on the machines I’ve had in coastal Mexico.

  39. I was thinking between the lining and carbon, that tank shouldn’t move. I also bought a roll of Teknofibra 4mm flexible thermal barrier to line the underside since you can’t get the factory stuff anymore. Besides this is much better and probably overkill but it’s okay. I don’t care. I try to stick with top tier fuels (Shell V Power) and run a mix of that and 110 race fuel.
