  1. You don't say how you verified the spark,but are you certain that it's actually sparking & at the right time? When I was having trouble setting & getting the points running right initially on my CX100;KiwiRoy recommended that I open everything up & rotate the engine manually as I watched the valve assemblies,points, etc,,, it really helped me to get it all working correctly & on the right TDC,fwiw ymmv. While you're double checking all your grounds & contacts, verify the air gaps on any ignition sensors as well. I hate it when garage gremlins disconnect sh*t & phq things up. btdt Time,patience & a fresh set of eyes always overcomes in the end.

Just to end this story... the bike is back after a long winter, running better than ever, and boy, did it have problems that needed fixing... new alternator, new wiring harness, new rubber boots for the inlets, new oil sump... new forks have been ordered so I can send them to Andreani for a cartridge replacement/tune-up and I want to put the original bar-end weights back on, but they always shook loose and I don't know how to get them working well with the current red-anodized bar-end mirror mounts. I've also considered painting the valve covers red, and re-painting/anodizing the pork-chops to have everything a uniform color. Seeking opinions (and pics) of red valve covers, because I quite like this grey stealth (beat up streetfighter) look.

  3. Nope, no luck. So the classic point system has been replaced by Carmo electronic ignition. The mechanical advance is gone, there is an electronic pulse generator on the end of the camshaft like this one: I do suppose this could have become contaminated, because the storage location of the bike is also used for other stuff (occasional spray paint, metalwork) so I could clean it up properly.

  4. When the Honda CBX 1000 came out, quickly followed by the Kawazaki Z1300, I immediately wanted either one. Only I got a job overseas, and my motorcycle dream ended before it even started. BMW seems to be the only manufacturer offering a six in line. Obviously, a tourer to compete with the Goldwing. The six cylinder singer: listen to the music!   6. I have mine for my wife she still likes riding cross country with me. The wife will take about 30 minutes on the Centauro and WILL NOT ride on the back of the V11 Champagne. Did do a few necessary upgrades for comfort like a Russell day long seat lowered foot pegs, taller windshield. Now I'm able ride my bike longer then I could sit in any car. Also when traveling with the wife I tow a Uni-go trailer if your on the road 3 weeks with the wife it helps to bring some extras. That's pretty much my kit. Make no mistake the bike is a behemoth, not as heavy as a Gold Wing. We were in Yosemite NP 2018 maybe it was us you saw. The year before we went to Ocracoke Island at the end of Cape Hatteras. Taking the fairy was interesting.

  9. Ok, so if that is all in good working order, correctly set up, and clean, it should just work. Given that the bike was running, as I understand it, before the head gaskets were done, I think one can assume that the system is basically ok. You mentioned in the first post that the "plopping, wants to start" stopped when you changed the plug leads, if I understood the post correctly. I can't see any reason why the pickups would have "slipped" during changing the head gaskets. Did you even have the front cover off? Maybe to get to the Allen head screw through the alternator to turn the motor over whilst checking the valve clearances? If it was off, have a look in there again to make sure the wiring still looks ok. More likely: you would have had the tank off to do the heads, I expect. The coils are under there, aren't they? Have a good look there as well, in case there is a wire off somewhere. Although you did mention in the first post that there is spark on both sides. A very silly thought just went through my head: you have checked the kill switch, that it isn't switched off? The way I've wired mine (with Silent Hektik ignition), the kill switch switches the +12V to the coils off, so it wont spark if the switch is off. I can't actually imagine how yours could spark with the kill switch off, but I'll let the question stand... Another thing: you mentioned have set the static timing Hopefully you mean "+7°", i.e. 7° before TDC rather than +/- 7°. You set that for the right cylinder. The workshop manual says to set the static timing for the left cylinder first, but that is for points. On what basis did you set the static timing on the right cylinder? Don't know for sure if that is really a potential source of error or not. I'm just trying to think of anything that might have slipped through the net.

  11. The thing tie-wrapped to the frame looks like a blinker relay to me, and the "what is this for" looks like it *might* be where the blinker relay was originally mounted. The "what is this for" looks like a rubber shock mount for something. Such things are often used to contain a blinker relay. Sorry I can't help with the wiring questions.

  12. No links, just a list. The music is well known, and should be easy for anyone to find. And I can't be buggered looking for the links at this time of night... Today, for the first time in a very long time, I actually sat down and listened to some music*. A couple of days ago "Joe's Garage" popped up in my head. I had actually only listened to all three acts once, and that about 35 years ago. The song itself, well, I can sing along for most of it. So I listened to the whole thing today. And then "Electric Ladyland" And then "Abbey Road". Seemed like a logical sequence to me. *Edit: In my free time, rather than at work. Listening to music is part of my job.

  13. I've had the chinese Rizoma rip-offs on mine for a few years now! Apart from the adjustability factor as Phil has mentioned they're ok and work for me. I cant remember the price but it was significantly cheaper than the real deal. Cheers

  16. Footgooses' Tail tidy looks fantastic here.... just love how clean the back of the bike looks. Theres a reference in this thread to "how he groomed the titanium exhaust" but I searched and couldn't find anything about that... I also wonder if anyone would be interested in the bracket.... he kindly provided the template for it .... it would be an easy waterjet project just like the Roper plates. Anyone interested ? ... and if it is not too much trouble to ask, where could I find more info on Footgooses back end? ....(OMG that doesn't sound right does it!)

  17. and check the rubbers for dry rot cracks. the right one is suspect. get the left one reinstalled and do the "spray to reveal leaks" test on both

  18. Kinda looks like the left throttle body may have burped itself off the intake rubber. just trying the simple things first.
