  2. Looking more carefully at the pics posted I can see the problem. It looks as if by the time your crankcase was made they had started using the newer pressure die cast moulds for the crankcases. I thought the change over happened at the time of the CARC bikes but obviously it predated that. Now I’m not sure, I’ll have to check, but that annoying boss on the case might be a there for the oilway drilling for the under piston sprays on the 8V motor, (As I’ve mentioned before, a lot of modifications are put in train many, many years before model launches.). I have an 8V case on the bench in the old workshop, I should pick it up anyway. I’ll have a squizz over the next few days. The ‘Honeycomb’ structure of the casting also suggests the casting method of the case changed at this time.

  3. I know turning 137,000 miles doesn't seem like much to celebrate. But I'm celebrating, anyway. ( I intended this to be my 20,000th post, but I used that to reference fixing a broken link that @mikev had pointed out. As it should be, I reckon! )

  4. I had to get moved into my new office to be ready for Monday and the high today was a cloudy, moist 61' so i snapped a pic of the old gal in the shop. Next tiome i go out for ride, will take more pics. I'm planning a 4 day trip to Black Canyon of the Gunnison, early July. Considering what she was like when i got her, she cleaned up well, but still carries the numerous small scars of neglect.

  6. @GuzziMoto, indeed, we all have our opinions. Stoner was EXTREMELY talented, albeit his 7 year career was short lived, so we have no way of knowing had he might have accomplished had he raced 13 seasons as has MM. Altho Rossi introduced a riding style prior unseen, he did not win his rookie year like MM. Nor did he win as many back to back championships as has MM, altho Marquez has another 13 seasons to catch Vali's 21. (13 & 21 being in the premier class). At age 40, MM will match Vali's 21. Other than Vali's 2015, loss, he didn't win another championship after 2009, when he was 30 years old. MM is on track to win the championship this year at age 32. And still has, at minimum, another 3 years before he enters his decline. Time will tell.

  7. Maybe the topic has got a little side tracked which may have been my fault unintentionally. The only new single plate clutch you can fit to a BB these days is the RAM unit and the only one is for the 5 speed bikes. There has been in the past an issue with variations in the pushrod length relating to this. The broad point I was initially making here is aftermarket parts and even OEM parts listed for different models to your bike can't be automatically assumed to be a workable option. Even aftermarket manufacturers dont cross check every detail and sometimes model changes can be subtle. Remember my issues with Andreani fork carts? Andreani say they fit 2001-2006 bikes but they actually don't. I've been through all this a million times in my bike and car world career assuming things will be identical across seemingly identical version of a bike or car. Remember all the variations in V11 triple clamps that after 25 years we are only just getting a handle on? The only way to know if the Oberon unit will work in reality is to try one. I'm just pointing out that there are risks and what seems like an obvious choice isn't always workable without modifications or at all. If it works I'll buy one. Who wants to be the guinea pig? Phil

  8. imho, MM is a once in a lifetime driver. He adapts to the machine and makes the best out of any circumstance he is confronted with. He overcame his 2021 Jerez crash which matured him. MM is on track to win at least 10 MotoGP championships. After this season, he has a minimum of at least 3 more years to win 10. Barring the unforseen, he has everything he needs within himself and around him to win more than 10. And, he is still human.

  9. The British GP is this weekend. Yamaha just did a private test in the off week. So FQ is looking good, as is Vinales (he seems to like this track). Of course, the Marquez brothers are also expected to be strong. It will be interesting to see if Pecco / Ducati can resolve the front issues the 2025 suffers from.

  10. There are only 3 differences noted in the parts book between the single plate clutch and the multi-plate. None of those parts relate to the slave or the push-rod assembly.

  11. No but there's a bit between the hydraulics and the pressure plate such as the pushrod length, and the pressure plate receiver for the pushrod. Also the clutch pack thickness has a relationship to the clutch slave cylinder travel in both directions. Imagine if the Oberon slave cylinder had less travel to the piston in the released or clutch engaged position. You could end up in a situation where when the clutch plate wears down and the piston is pushed further back into it's bore it bottoms out and then prevents the clutch from fully engaging.. I'd love someone to buy the Oberon unit and fit it so we know if it works for sure. Phil

  12. I also can't imagine why it would have been changed. I went looking. Searching one of the part numbers quoted by Oberon, GU05086330, I got this at Stein-Dinse https://www.stein-dinse.com/de/moto-guzzi-kupplungszylinder-850-1100-1200-breva-griso/item-2-1030607-GU05086330-.html Looking at these parts lists, choose "clutch" from the index, part #13 on the apparently same drawing in all of them, I got the part number GU01086330 on all of them. https://guzzitek.org/parts_list/gb/1100/V11/V11Sport-RossoMandello_1999-2001_062011_PL(GB).pdf https://guzzitek.org/parts_list/gb/1100/V11/V11LM_Naked_2001-2002_052013_PL(GB).pdf https://guzzitek.org/parts_list/gb/1100/V11/V11LM_Nak_RC_NC_Cat_2003-2004_062013_PL(GB).pdf https://guzzitek.org/parts_list/gb/1100/V11/V11LM_2002_062011_PL(GB).pdf https://guzzitek.org/parts_list/gb/1100/V11/V11Cafe_Ballabio_2003-2005_062013_PL(GB).pdf So my opinion: Firstly, it seems that the V11 models did indeed all have the same clutch cylinder. Secondly, the clutch cylinder pictured from Stein-Dinse is listed as being for the "next generation", i.e. Breva, Norge etc., but looks remarkably similar to the clutch cylinder on my V11. So, even though the Oberon part is apparently not specifically listed for the V11 models, I reckon I'd be willing to take a punt on it. If only because it comes in such pretty colours.

  13. Problem is it's not just a matter of will it bolt onto the gearbox but also a matter of are the dimensions and piston travel exactly the same. The Oberon unit looks like it's for a Norge and Breva etc. I know when I updated to the single plate clutch I did some measuring and the length of the pushrod and the travel of the piston is highly critical. Whether the later model bikes use the same mechanical dimensions I don't know. I still suspect the low KLMs you get out of the original sintered friction plate for the RAM single plater when used on a V11 could be simply down to the clutch slave bottoming out as the clutch plate gets about 1/3rd worn because the RAM single plater was originally designed for the 5 speed with the cable operated clutch. 17. Not to far from Rotterdam, on the bank of the river Lek (that reaches the Northsea in Rotterdam), in the little town of Tienhoven we have an International Guzzi Rally the 3rd weekend of June. I help organizing it and all of you are most welcome. Registration is not required, always enough space to pitch your tent. Relaxed atmosphere, Friday BBQ, live music on Friday and Saturday night. Small band to help us through the Saturday afternoon. Food en drinks availble. Small ride out on Saturday, booth sale/used parts an all. We always lack a good portion of spine frames.

  18. Interesting topic and love the idea. About twenty years ago, I organised two V11 meetings: 2004 in Varsseveld (hometown) and 2007 in Sibbe (South Limburg NL). Great fun! And lots of international guests from allover Europe. I've kept in touch with a few of the attendees; beginning of June I'm meeting some Brits that attended in 2007. I've been playing with the idea of a 25year Anniversary rally in 2027. But, at the moment I'm still way to busy with my small business, being a city councillor and my lovely girlfriend (randomly ordered), so this year is not going to happen. BTW, that hotel is about 500 meters from my home! Docc, sorry to correct you but Leipzig > Varsseveld is about 550 kms.

  19. My old eyes didn't see the box end wrench bit, I thought it was some type of pry bar; but after Phil's excellent response and a second look, I agree with gstallons, some type of distributor wrench

  20. No brand , part # or any markings ? I have about a dozen things that look like this . They are distributor wrenches . Used to loosen the hold down bolts so you can turn the distributor and set the timing .
