Stepping stone Moto Guzzi in the works? powered by an Aprila parallel twin....
docc replied to p6x's topic in Newer models
This makes me ponder, not the "stepping stone"/entry level bike, but the "drop-back-and-punt" bike that I would value as mySport (eventually) becomes too unwieldy for my physical capabilities. Is this a valuable, yet overlooked, market that Piaggio has not seen? "Off our rockers, Actin' crazy. But with the right medication, We won't be lazy. Old Folks' Boogie Down on the farm. Wheelchairs Are locked arm in arm." Or is there another future in store for my square-fin that Piaggio wants nothing to do with . . . -
Gratuitous Pics of Girls + Guzzi

Those are some nice lines. Reminds me of mySport. The little scooter is cute, too . . . -
What are those? Must not be just fork springs. Pretty sure mine were about $100US.

Let's hope! A meteorologist explained to me that the very cold temperatures caused this to be a very fluffy, light snow. Unlike the usual wet, heavy (and icy) winter precipitation we usually get in the U.S. south that wreaks havoc on the trees and power lines.

I like to hear one, from the rider's seat, ripping out through the hollows along the creeks. The air-cooled cylinders do have a special *ring* to them, beyond the exhaust note . . . -
Overnight here in the "Sunny (U.S.) South", they forecast 4-6 (four to six ) inches of snow overnight. Our alternative "English" speaking brothers might pronounce that "far t' sex " (and just hope it ain't so . . . .) letitsnowletitsnowletitsnow

If I recall correctly, the Monster headlight is a match for the early Sport steel Bosch unit . . .

Guzzi meeting in John Day 2024
docc replied to DucatiGuzziIndian's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Solved: moved topic to "banter" to keep the party going . . . -
Cool. You have a favorite song/link to share?

Oh? Pray tell . . .

I count that elapsed time as two months two weeks from @DucatiGuzziIndian's first post about the matter. Outstanding, in my book !

When Piaggio declared Moto Guzzi's focus to be "travel", I thought the brand protected from this sot of thing. But, alas . . . -
For so long, our common wisdom was, "Yeah they flop, but won't fall out." That was proved decisively wrong at a South'n Spine Raid when a crossover pipe went bounding back through the staggered group of riders. Bad form, to say the least . . .

Traxxion Dynamics did a great job spec'ing my fork springs and nailed the preload spacers right from the start. In addition to weight (in gear), they used "riding style." I told them I ride like a jackrabbit on hot lava . . .

Fuel economy variatons with different fuels

Yep: not V11. Sure, still could be interesting . . . topic moved. -

Pretty sure this thread is (d)evolving into a "banter" topic that has little to nothing to do with V11 24/7 . . . Might remain "interesting", but might get moved. Might find itself "elsewhere." -
Twentieth (XX!) South'n Spine Raid 2024

Agreed. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm not sure why I remembered that V11 in grey primer with matte black accents . . . -
Where my learning curve caught up with me, I had added significant preload to the stock forks because the springs were too soft for me. During a very sharp, low speed cornering correction (sudden increase in lean angle), the road went "off camber", essentially asking the suspension to "reach out" to maintain contact patch. The excessive preload caused the suspension to "top out", loose contact, and slide. Read: low-side. I realize there were several other factors, including rider error, but it would have been better if my forks had a little more "reach" (extension travel) that I had defeated with the excessive preload attempt to compensate for the soft springs. Just my one sad, but true, story to illustrate the importance of spring selection first, then preload, then damping.
-
First priority: get the right springs. More preload will not solve that. I had to learn this "the hard way" . . .

With the 5.5 mm longer shock on my ShortFrame Sport, the forks are raised 5mm. With my spring selections and "sags" (30% front/25% rear), I found this all a sweet spot. As @GuzziMoto said, more fork raise was not better (for my set-up)......
