A little solo time early this am - 120 miles of backroads before a breakfast burrito stop in Campo. Happy Fathers day to all the dads here. Pizza night tonight with my oldest daughter. Mexico and Italy have the same colors on their flags, and they have the best food groups. Coincidence? I think not. Red, White, and Green. Tomato, Mozzarella, and Basil. Or Red Salsa, Sour Cream, and Green Chili.3 points

I have had two back surgeries, a knee surgery, need the other knee done and am in need of a hip replacement. That does not deter me from riding a V11. It has by far the most comfortable motorcycle seat I have ever sat on. As to ergos, Motobits pegs move the pegs down and forward, and the stock bars can be pulled up into what this 72 year old calls the "old man position." I pulled them down as far as practical and swapped back to the OEM pegs. I'd consider rearsets if there were any.2 points

Oh, if I was single, the piano would be gone and the Coppa would be in its place for the winter. But, that will never happen. My wife loves art, but not motorcycle static art. I can't understand that.2 points

I know turning 137,000 miles doesn't seem like much to celebrate. But I'm celebrating, anyway. ( I intended this to be my 20,000th post, but I used that to reference fixing a broken link that @mikev had pointed out. As it should be, I reckon! )2 points

@v11_meticcio I had to ask DeepL what you wrote. It said Yes, it happens.1 point

I got a $750 V11 and the Staintunes are on the shelf lol I will be certain they don't fit the 1100 Sport before they're fitted to the V11, though.1 point

Ha, that was my mom! I think you just made her day with a drastic underestimation on her age, even if it does require an incestuous path to reach that estimation🤣1 point

My take on BaT is that it's mostly a bunch of whiny rich-adjacent cheapskates. On one side are people fishing high prices, the other side douchebags trying to submarine the item to bring the price down to where they can afford it, or sour grapes it because they can't. Change my mind.1 point

Yeah, I’ll do the brake fluid, but from everything I’ve seen in my 27 years of working on cars, is it’s hot/cold cycles, that really beats up the brake fluid, or if something is stored outside. This bike rarely saw a humidity over 50%. The comment that irked me, wasn’t necessarily that one, it was the one that presumed that the fuel was gummed up, the seals were all dried out, the tires were shot, and the bike is basically scrap, at this point. While those are legitimate concerns of long term storage, there was a certain amount of presumption in his post, without even asking how the bike may have been kept up with, while in storage. He basically said this, without saying it, “this bike is junk”. And I agree if the intention is to hop on it, and slam the bike into corners at 120 mph, the first thing I’d do is get new tires. But, that being said, for normal riding, these tires still have a very sticky, gummy feel to them. But, I guess I’ve lived my life working on cars, and pushing things to their limits, before their replacement, so I’ve learned where the limits are..so I go more by experience, rather than some arbitrary “should be replaced” mantra…unless, like I said, my intention was to buy the bike, and immediately slam it into hard corners.1 point

The proper term is "stuck". You can clean all of this off w/a Roloc disc and get a smooth surface. Spray Brake-Kleen on everything to get the rust and dust off all the metal parts. Also , spray dry film graphite on all metal splines to ensure smooth operation and keep things from rusting.1 point

It is so. My late, lamented, and lost-to-me Ballabio I bought while Kathi was getting her master’s in Boston. I did not tell her. It seemed the safest thing to do. That was error. I promised not to do that again. So, as she is in George just now, I thought it prudent to mention all of this to her on the telephone this morning. She used her well-honed wife, and middle school teacher skills to say that I “should do it if I feel it right.” Men married more than a day or two see the trap there. But I am musing about it. The reality is that I am so smitten by my V 85 and pleased with my Stornello and EV, all three of the present occupants of the Moto Grappa, that it is difficult rationally to justify such a purchase now. At 78 next month, I’m not sure that I want Kathi and my executor to go through anytime soon what the OP is just now. Yes, I can see what I’m doing up above, and it’s not working. Lord, that’s a sweet machine. Bill1 point

Such a very nice V11! And a very thorough walk-around video, @Steve54296. Complete with the wife weeding the garden at 1:22 (let's not tell her . . . ) We do have a longtime member who has a place for this (in his heart and in his garage). I'm not naming any names, but his initials are @Bill Hagan . . .1 point

...and what is the penalty for cancelling an auction? Might be worth it. I just read through the BAT comments. They seem like reasonable questions. Tires absolutely should be replaced before riding. Brake fluid, despite looking good, can absorb water over time, and should be flushed every few years whether the bike gets used or not. And... It's not a motorcycle in the house, it's a connection to your dad. Add in a couple months of core exercises to strengthen that back, and you're riding. That Falcone looks lovely. Maybe you should keep that one. Talk about art in the house...1 point

Even if it was a genuine Surflex response I’d be wary. The Surflex plate splineform are wrong and their hardening, at least on the twin plate plates, which I would imagine would use the same centres as the single plate, have for years, nay decades, been woefully poorly hardened leading to the splines chopping out in short order. I can provide plenty of photographic proof if needs be but it would be a chore to find and I can’t be bothered. Anyway, simply a word of warning from long experience. I’d rather trepan myself with a butter knife than use them in one of my bikes…….1 point

Hopefully not duplicating another thread, just wondered if members wanted a central place to put videos of their bikes? I live in the Isle of Man so my rides are typically quite short. I've taken to keeping a GoPro on the bike but really need to invest in a better one and better audio gear (not to mention a better sounding exhaust). Anyway, Sunday morning I like to get out early and get a lap in before the Island wakes up. Bit late today but did a reverse lap starting and finishing near home in Kirk Michael. Audio is terrible. New Road 6 tyres are fantastic. Like getting a new bike. Picture is actually of my first V11 and was taken a good eighteen years or so ago. I wouldn't mind another wee fairing like this one had.1 point

I own two video cameras: a DGI pocket 2, and an Insta360; for sound, especially while running, you need a separate recorder. I suggest the Zoom H1n, which cost nothing. I used it with my Le Mans, under the seat, where the tool kit was meant to go. My bike did not come with one (tool kit). You have to make a hard foam padding to set the zoom recorder in, so you don't get any parasite noises. Just the sound of the bike. Do not use the DGI pocket 2 for dynamic presentations. The gimbals on the head don't resist the wind, or in FPV (first person video) it is difficult to get it to focus where you want. For static presentations, it is perfect; see the sales video of my 1100 Quota below the Le Mans dynamic presentation. Although, on the Quota, I used the DGI, since I can hide it behind the screen. I can't with the Le Mans. But you can hear the wind, because I did not use the zoom recorder. Also, the vibrations. The Insta360 is supposedly better with eliminating vibrations digitally. I am planning to test the Insta360 soon. I purchased it more than one year ago, and I have not used it yet. Not even taken out of the box.... If I like it, I will purchase the latest Insta360 with the larger sensor.1 point

Geez @Tomchri, I think your place is listed as a place to see in the Norway travel brochure. There's the fjords, and then there's your shop.1 point

Lots of maintenance over the winter (wheels off list, tank off list, swingarm bearing re-grease, new breather hose, fork oil, brake fluid, electrics cleanup etc.) The only drama was losing the BB that actuates the front brake switch and both U-joints loose, all sorted and ready for test ride when the old Odyssey battery gave up the ghost. Fortunately the nearby NAPA had a new PC545 on the shelf for $147. Ready to ride just in time for the recent nice weather, 200 mi loop to the coast without a hicccup. Thanks to all the info from the fine folks on this forum!1 point

Over two years and ten thousand miles, this effort remains one of the best things I have ever done for my Sport. Thanks, again, to all that made it possible! On a little routine check-over I saw the vulnerable crankcase vent hose under the frame resting on, and abrading from, the oil supply lines for the heads at the front top of the engine block in the "V". A carefully placed Zip-tie and no hole will ever work through there . . . One of several updates to the Tank Off Maintenance Checklist . . .1 point
