I took him for a ride in our sidecar rig for ice cream at an Indiana Guzzi rally many years ago. I had no clue who he was, just another bearded Guzzi Guy..3 points

My '85 Le Mans 1000 has been in storage since winter and taking it for it's annual MOT I was having real issues getting up to speed. It started first time on the button as usual and ran up to about 30mph fine but after that I struggled to maintain 40mph especially when any incline appeared in the road. The only clue I have is that a few times during the winter, when I turned the engine over and ran it I think the RH carb flooded and leaked fuel. It needed a tap with a mallet to stop this so I presume the float was sticking. However, I would have thought that the engine should be able to get up to 40mph without too much trouble even if one carb wasn't delivering fuel as it should. Any ideas out there from anyone who has had similar issues on the 850/1000 carburetted models? Thanks Gareth2 points

Enrichened plunger stuck open? Flooding due to stuck float? Does it have the dark brown anodised carb bodies? If so it may be suffering from the float spindle pillar *Growth* issue. First thing would be strip , clean and rebuild the carburettors though. Disgusting things. Should be outlawed! Also check the advance mechanism in the distributor is moving freely.2 points

I have so enjoyed this fellow's writing in Cycle World ("Leanings") and Road&Track ("Side Glances") over his motojournalist career. I ran across this image I saved of his take on "Beatnik Bikes" . . . . . . and wondered what he is up to lately . . . Turns out: new book! And a nice article about the man and this book: https://thevintagent.com/2025/07/24/peter-egan-landings-in-america/2 points

Correct ! At least I can't feel any difference between a V11 with 1 or 2 crossovers. Cheers Tom.1 point

As to carburetors in general, they hate modern adulterated (ethanol) fuel. They also hate storage. I think it is time to pull the carbs and clean them thoroughly, perhaps with a rebuild kit. Does the bike have the Dell'Orto "pumper" carbs? Even more so, as accelerator pumps quickly gum up when left idle with even a trace of gas in them. I have a couple of Kawasaki GPz500 twins. The are absolutely notorious for carburetor issues - especially after storage.1 point

I just bought this silver one(2001) in N.Carolina. Drove from SE Missouri to become the 3rd owner. When I came back from test ride owner asked me how the acceleration was, said he'd never really got into it. Little over 5000 miles on the clock.1 point

Maybe time to have a looksee in there ...I had float issues on a new set of Dells a while ago...or also jets gummed up after the down time ?1 point

It seems the (one-and-only?) V11 Sport Playboy Exclusive Edition has never resurfaced. The one V11 SpineFrame I would consider building a "tribute"/ homage . . .1 point

Beautiful 2003 Rosso Corsa that I've owned for the last 8 years. Bought from original owner. Approximately 11,000 miles. The speedo failed at approx. 7,000 miles. I replaced it with a new speedo the original gave me with the bike, but it is in kilometers - 3,950 kM ( I don't know why the speedo was kM...maybe an order screw-up). All fluids changed at 3,100 kM. Last major services done at Ned's Cycle at time of speedo change out (0 kM). The Rosso came with the upgraded ECU and Titanium Exhaust. Also the Moto lights on the forks. I added the color matched Heppco-Becker saddlebags with rack. I also added 4 inch bar risers and a "Roper Plate" in the oil sump. E-mail me for info &photos rockersbmwatgmail.com1 point

And what did we do back early seventy's mounting a new double exhaust on a 440. Putting stripe of white chalk on the pipes and go for a spirited drive. The spot on the pipe with most evidence of heat was where the crossover was mounted. Seemed correct at the time. Crossover on the headers, NOISE reason. Cheers Tom.1 point

In my opinion, this color combination doesn’t gel for me. Either the black or silver V11s look terrific as stock, but the black tank with silver side panels, seat cowl & fender doesn’t look “right” I suppose it doesn’t help having a sliver V11 as that’s what I’m comparing it to. All 3 factory red frame stock colors look “right”1 point

First time I’ve seen or heard of a V11 Sport TT. I assume that these were dealer created, and not supplied as such by the factory.1 point

Hehe! It’s optional. Scura R came with two seats from Guzzi factory - one red, the other black. Tried on both but for me the red popped! Momentarily thought about storing it instead of the black to keep it pristine - but then decided I wasn’t going to be too anal & chose what gives me the “look back at it” feeling! Someone mentioned the TT... my Scura R has been hammered around the hallowed Isle... but unfortunately not by me! The original owner traded it into Paul Dedman Performance motorcycles for an Aprilia after deciding it didn’t have enough outright top end speed when I spoke to him after closing deal with Paul. I bought my Scura R sight unseen - first time actually seen a V11 was when it rolled out the van! Maybe it was an extra big van but I remember my first impression - surprised as it seemed kinda small. Strange, loved Guzzi’s ever since...1 point
