  1. After a bit of reading up during the build of my project bike, I chose to got the lithium route mainly for the weight saving - its gotta be the cheapest way to save in excess of 3Kg!. During its as yet short service of around 1200m it has worked brilliantly. After assembling the project build I connected up the lead acid battery from the road bike to check over the electrics - but it struggled to churn the engine over on prodding the start button (1225cc, High compression motor). Swapping to the lithium battery, the engine spun really well and fired up the fresh motor no problem, so LOTS of cranking torque. From then, its been Easy Starts, and no issues at all. I also fitted a lithium friendly reg/rect and bought a lithium trickle charger for battery care over the winter. The battery is an AntiGravity AG1201, and the reg/rect is from Ricks Motorsport; 14-001H. Received wisdom says replace the reg/rect as the stock one for lead acid can fry the battery with voltages over 14.2. The pairing works well and maintains 13.5v while in regular use. The bike itself is not at all stock and has a full Motogadget electrical system, which also works well but is a PITA to install! Overall, I'd recommend the change to Lithium if you are on a weight saving mission, but the stock lead acid has always worked well on my less modified road bike and I wouldn't spend the money just for the sake of it -£582 for battery, reg/rect and charger!!

  2. How old is the fuel? Does it have actual fuel pressure ( I know the plugs are wet but maybe the fuel pressure is low and that just causes fuel puddling worse than normal in the intake manifold and drowns the spark) how long since it's been previously run? Are you using std plugs or fine wire plugs? ( once FW plugs are fouled they are junk) Not sure about the GD issue. How do you select the model of bike from the drop down box? I use V11 Sport for my V10 Sport with the same ECU and TPS as you but I'm not sure if I get the IAW15M PF09 or IAW15M PF03C. I think the latter. The TPS identifier shouldn't matter as they are both non linier but what std model uses a 15M PF09 configuration? I can't think of any unless GD reads the actual TPS fitted. My bike used to be very hard to start and keep running during warm up before I re mapped the cranking enrichment map and revised the engine temp enrichment break points which were based on the V11 sport 2 valve engine in my original 8 valve maps. Now it's very good to start and warm up. There is a process however. Open the fast idle 90% and don't touch the throttle and it fires up withing a few seconds on the starter and goes to 1800 rpm. From there you can back off the fast idle to around 1500 rpm and after about 30 seconds you can use it to keep the rpm at that figure for a minute or two then ride it. Phil

  3. Yes, it is. I have been fiddling with the ignition for a while now. Somehow, the spark seems a bit weak now (not before) and the left side is not always sparking. I am currently away from home for work, but when I get back, I will investigate further. So far it seems like the problem is most present on the left cilinder. When changing the ignition CDIs, coils (plus leads/caps) and even the pickup, the problem remains on the left side the most. I will have to re-investigate the ignition parts & wiring from the start when I get back.

  6. Hey @Lucky Phil good to hear from you😊 Good points made…. Fuel is 4months old and the fine wire plugs have sure been fouled. Back to basics eh? I think fuel pressure is ok as the pump primes and stops once up to pressure, but certainly worth a check if new plugs and fresh fuel don’t do the business. I’ve considered taking the injectors out to check spray pattern ok but that looks like a real PITA once they are out of the TB’s It’s really messing with my head and I am struggling to understand why a well-running machine can pull this on me after a gearbox build!! But back to basics; fresh fuel, new plugs and see how it goes. Cheers!

  10. Smarty pants. Avon is another one who states "recommended rim width" and such. For instance here (not a recommendation for the tyre, just for the information!!). The 160/60 17 is listed with 4.5" as the recommended rim. (scroll down to the bottom half of the page to see the table...) https://www.avontyres.com/de-de/reifen/3d-supersport?searchtype=tire&cartype=motorcycle

  11. Not sure where he got his info on wheel widths vs tire, but often the recommended width wheel for a 160/60 tire is 4.5" Here is a shot from Dunlop's web site for their Sportmax Q5 in a 160/60-17. The width in red is the recommended width, the width in black is acceptable.

  12. Thanks @docc I’m using the MGS01 model as this matches my machine - iaw15m ecu, PF09 tps, 1225 motor with MGS01 barrels n heads. These settings worked perfectly while developing the fuelling map….. It’s a real headscratcher! I keep thinking I must have missed something obvious 🥸

  13. The non-start issue certainly deserves a thread of its own, but regarding guzzidiag, check your model selection in Preferences and select your model. It looks like you may be set the "MDS-01" . . .

  14. @GuzziMoto If you get a VPN service, you do not need to limit yourself to what is offered in the USA. https://www.servustv.com/sport/b/motogp-world-championship/aa-1qg6dqwd91w11/ Servus TV is in German, but only for the races. All the practices are the direct comments from MotoGP. They also have the races in playback, if you cannot livestream.

  15. Click on the link a couple posts up in the post from me, MotoGP in “advanced talks” to change its US TV broadcaster MotoGP is reportedly set to switch to a new TV broadcaster in the United States. The motorsport series is in “advanced talks” with Warner Bros Discovery to move onto their channel this year, Sports Business Journal reports. The move is an attempt from MotoGP to “look for growth in America”. MotoGP has been broadcast in the US by NBC since 2020 but the report claims that their partnership has expired. The deal in negotiations with Warner Bros Discovery would mean all Saturday sprint races and Sunday grands prix would be live on linear cable TV. Warner Bros Discovery own TNT, TBS and TruTV. Warner Bros Discovery and MotoGP are already TV broadcast partners in other territories including the UK. TNT Sports, owned by Warner Bros Discovery, broadcast MotoGP to the UK audience.

  20. Agree I tried to measure crankcase pressure on the Sporti when I was having blow-by problems (which were due to the bores being outwith spec from when they left the factory, but that's another story). It fluctuates, obviously with piston movement so cycles every revolution, but I wouldn't think it was any greater than a couple of inches of water gauge overall. Might see more if you placed a high speed transducer to read the pressure peaks. That said rubber hose will (at least partially) absorb these peaks and as @audiomick pointed out the system is open to atmosphere on the frame Here's some idea of the amount of air that's being moved

  22. I haven't been to Dusty's in a couple of years. He wrote me this might be the last spring Guzzi Rally. The old Guzzi guys aren't getting any younger. Covid, WG, and social differences have had an impact too. If you want to see some of the old crowd at one time, this could be it. Not sure I'll have my Greenie out of the shop or even know my status up from down to be there. Looks like Paul is all in. Leroy too. My last go around, we saw Elon's 60 satellites in the sky and thought the aliens were here. Paul's bike was running hot. Wes pulled the rear of his Cali following my Duc at 100+ after returning from Marland mansion. There's the OZ motorcycle museum, the Pioneer woman's ranch, Phillips museum and the Flowers of the Killer Moon. The big deal, Dusty fries catfish on Sat night.

  23. I don't have experience with Lithium batteries yet, but I did buy a new regulator that is also prepared for Lithium (LiFePo) batteries. It is from a supplier in the Netherlands, because I wanted it fast, but the same product can be bought elsewhere. https://www.carmo.nl/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4318_1086&products_id=616 The connection can be directly on the battery. It has internal protection against heat and shortcuts. Mechanically, it does not fit exactly. You have to drill a few extra holes in the bracket. It looks like this one is very much the same as the Shendengan of Guzzler.

  24. The British don't have much of a handle on Aussie sense of humour. Probably something to do with brilliant idea of shipping the convicts to paradise all those years ago while the rest stayed in England to bask in the Pommie weather and warm beer for the next 250 years. You find my comment unfriendly but are happy for me to re direct it onto someone else? Jamming things into other things and applying significant torque to fasteners rarely ends well. The original mistake has regrettably and obviously occurred, no need to compound the disaster by suggesting other dubious techniques. Phil

  26. IMHO that's a good way to go, I don't know what's in the V11 but the Sporti's Ducati Energia Regulator I'm told is a Series type (thanks @Kiwi_Roy) I've also seen reports of guys installing shunt type regualtors and have not had any problem, so I guess you pays your money and takes you choice. Ducati recorded quite a few fires and melting looms with LiFe batteries and the Reg/Recs on those bikes were known to be weak. The common fix was a Shindengen Mosfet Reg/Rec replacement and I've not heard of any problems when using them @audiomick advice also is useful, the problem with them overheating is because of the low internal resistance, meaning they can pull or push large amounts of current, so an undersized or marginal battery doesn't sound like a wise move.

  28. Hi, I still get emails asking for the V11 BIN I made available several years ago. I can't find my post with the download links, which don't work anymore anyway, so here's the current download link. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1e7MMuO6vrUZGFfmkCtL3zsW1qeS6uDgY/view?usp=sharing The base setup, and that's quite important to follow to get the best results, is: - TPS set to 157mV with all mechanical connectors removed and throttle completely closed - Both bypass screws completely closed - CO trim set to 0 - Idle sync with both (if so required) throttle stop screws - Running sync as usual And while we at it, here's the link to the Jackal (works with any California with 15M) BIN. Same base setup as V11, but I recommend a larger valve play of 0,3mm for exhaust and intake. The Jackal BIN is quite recent. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Wb2LXrRrgDI1WO0krnb_GeiAvewbwA1K/view?usp=sharing Cheers Meinolf

  29. Somebody just posted this on WildGuzzi, and I thought it would be interesting here too. I didn't know the MGS01 used a 6-speed transmission "modified" from a V11.

  30. After a bit of climate change....I went out and tweaked on it some more. Much better fit. I removed the tail and re-installed it and it was a lot easier to get it into place. Once my new seat gets here, i know i can have the guys trim it to fit perfectly

  31. Well that took a fair amount of coaxing. I think I’ll leave her out in the sun and get those parts warmed up and tweak it a little more.

  32. You are correct, this isn't pure carbon. I spent quite a bit of time looking into having these pieces reproduced and the set up cost alone is enough to make you cry. You would be essentially paying for one off parts. I didn't think i could even hope to recoup that money offering pieces made to order for anyone else. If money was no object then yes of course i would do it. I had even more radical ideas and this has been a very difficult endeavor. Trying to run a business and spend hours on the phone / zillion emails. So compromises are whats going to bring this to life in a reasonable time period. These are skinned. If you go to Exotic Car Gear's website you can read about how they do it. It ain't that detestable vinyl. It does add some weight, which i will counter with other lightweight components. I do have a full fairing that will be cut and fitted, I am having that copied in pure carbon once the fiberglass pieces is fitted. This is a replica Honda CB750 race fairing: That will cost $1,700 to be made in pure Carbon. Thankfully i don't have to pay for the set up. In my situation, using those dollars for other things is a better allocation of resources. The set up costs just for the tank and tail was in the multi thousands of dollars. I don't want to spoil the surprise, but you'll see what i ended up spending those dollars on.

  35. Sorry to be late to chime in on this but the long and the short of it is that finding out that someone had not just copied my plate but doppelgängered it even down to using the rather odd plate thickness, (Chosen simply because my cutter had some left over plate that thick that I could get for a knock down price.) really pissed me off. If they had simply gotten in touch with me and asked me how they could go about getting some or if I would mind if they started producing them and simply gave me a small 'Gratuity' on every sale I would probably of said "Sod the gratuity, just give $5.00 from every sale to Medicines sans frontiers and good luck with it." But I wasn't asked and I knew that when dealing with thieves expecting them to stand by their word would be compounding the stupidity, it would just give them an opportunity to add an extra five but to the product for them to pocket and crow about how wonderful they were. That, along with the fact that any time I go to market with a self designed product, (Another example being my remote breather systems for the water intrusion prone CARC bevel boxes on the more modern bikes.) I invariably get told it's too expensive and within a few days someone else comes up with an inferior, but invariably cheaper, alternative and slags me off as a rip-off merchant. The thing is I live in Australia. Things ARE more expensive in Australia, for a variety of reasons. I can assure people I'm not farting through silk on the sale of a few aftermarket products for obsolete and comparatively rare Italian motorbikes! At the end of the day I'm afraid I'm over it. With the recent decline in the value of the $AU I might revisit lop page sheet production but I still don't think, once postage is added, that I can compete with the thieves in Huddersfield. So unless people would like to club together and put in a bulk, (Over ten.) order for plates from me I'm afraid I'm done with them. Sorry. At the moment I am very tied up in addressing problems with and helping perfect the fuelling on W5AM equipped Guzzis and will hopefully be able to help Paul and Christian with data to allow further access to and development of the wonderful Guzzidiag suite of tools to enable them to be used with both the MUIG3 and 7SM controllers used on the Cali 14 and V7 series machines, I'm also very busy with 8V Guzzi work, a design I not only love but love working on, I have very little to do nowadays with pre-Piaggio machines and although I have some pretty big gripes with the company's business and management strategy I like the bikes too much to throw in the towel! Anyway, sorry to all the loyal V11 owners, and as I said, buy in bulk and I'll happily do another run but it's a fair investment of my limited capital to produce a run of plates and they sometimes sit for months costing me money, but I have to admit that I was more than a little pissed off by the plagiarism and I simply gave up. All the best Pete
