My rear drive was leaking pretty badly coming through on the right side. It was running down the side of the drive & getting all over the rim & tire. Well I called my local dealer & he told me it was probably the outer seal needed replaced. Anyway I took the rear drive off my bike because I didnt want to ride it the 60 miles like that. It was a simple 5 minute (if that) swap. Its the large rubber type seal on the inside near what I guess is called the crown. Anyway I got the bike put back together & no more leaking at all. The part was $35 & I would recomend that anyone with a leaking rear drive replace that part first before going to more extreme & expensive measures. P.S. I'm not positive on what the rubber seal is called..I called it the outer seal but if someone knows the "official" name of it I'd appreciate it if they put it in here for other members to know.

Sometimes when you change the valve settings you need to re balance the tb's. Also I think you might have to recalibrate your tps for a ew valve setting. Check spark plug gap too.
-
Anything is possible. I cant blame you for not wanting to get another one after getting a bad tire.
-
The intent of my thread was merely to tell my experience with a new set of tires. However...since tire makers keep putting new products out we will always have tire threads. If theres some new snake oil to put in my engine I want to hear your opinion about that too!

I've heard very good things about the Pilots. How much better would you say that the Pilots are over the ContiForce?
-
I bought a new set of tires (front & rear at the same time). I went with the Continental ContiForce this time around, having had Shinko's on before. I can say with no reservation that these are the best tires I have ever had on the bike. The only exception was a Pirelli Diablo racing front tire that was pretty awesome, but of course it didnt last very long. The bike handles sweepers & sharp corners like it never has before. I've been bouncing around from one brand of tire to another but I think I'm going to stay with this brand for awhile. If you want the bang for your buck tire, I would say that the ContiForce is the way to go.

I'm re posting my single plate clutch kit, complete with flywheel. This is NOT the ram kit. It is a Guzzi factory kit. I have good pics of it for anyone interested. Condition is brand new. Price is $450
-
Is there a better aftermarket alternative to the bronze plate? Another thing I'm interested in is, how much more oomph would I get out of a lightened flywheel? I have a new clutch kit just sitting here in a box that I will use someday if I keep my bike long enough. The stock flywheel weighs about 7lbs in case anyone was curious.

I'm interested in seeing what they make, but I dont want to be the guinea pig. I'll be keeping an eye on this because its a good deal "if" the wheels are good quality.
-
Did you put on an aftermarket exhaust or pod type filters? That will cause the bike to run lean. Also you may want to try setting the valves a little tighter, .1 & .15 instead of the .15 & .20 Synching the tb's takes practice to get it just right too. I use a TwinMax balancer & lots of people here like that particular one to do the job. When you say that adjusting the air idle screws does nothing, I can assure you that it does. I hope one of those things will help you.

Redneck back on a Guzzi
richard100t replied to todd haven's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
It sounds like Tx isnt taking this 8valve recall very well. -
I think it was on some american radio show from Paul Harvey called the Rest of the Story. I guess when people really looked into it, theres no real proof that such a person ever really existed at all. Kind of like Mother Shipton maybe?

Should I be the guy to throw cold water on the celebration? St Patrick was a fictional character that never really existed!

CHeck the adjustment on the clutch lever? I always look for the most simple things first. After that maybe the next most simple thing to try is bleeding the clutch line. After that I think it starts to get more "interesting".

I remember a few years ago I was at my local dealer & he had a cam sitting on his shelf that was pulled from a california. It had no lobes left at all to speak of If I remember rightly the bike had only done a few thousand miles too. I'm surprised that Guzzi didnt learn from that lesson a few years ago. If I bought a new bike for over $13k & had to leave it sitting in the garage all summer while waiting for parts they would have to buy it back from me.

Shift Return Spring Failure Poll
richard100t replied to al_roethlisberger's topic in Technical Topics
I'm in the "if it aint broke dont touch it" camp! lol all these shift spring stories are enough to make a guy paranoid. Its still better than having a new 8valve Griso with a bum engine. -
Now thats a real mans bedroom! I have to admit theres been a time or two that I've wanted a hot Italian lady in mine. I should try some engine degreaser on mine, normal household products arent getting the job done.

I think what you may be interested in is called a Griso Zero model. I forget who does the kit, but I THINK its the Firestarter people. Anyway do a search on the Griso Zero & see if thats the look you're going after.

The same exact thing happened to my RM. It sounds like the pinion snapped in the exact same place too. I, however was attempting to pull a wheelie when said pinion let go. Ever since then I've been a good little boy on the Rosso & never try anything too umm...strenuous

I wouldnt worry too much about the slight leak from the tb. It seems that a lot of them, including mine do that. Jason Speaker does very good work on the Guzzis, so I'm sure it runs as good as a v11 can. I've had him tune mine up a few times & it always runs great when its done. So you like those roads down there by the river? That really is some beautiful country in eastern ohio, western pennsylvania. You just gotta watch for gravel & road debris this time of the year.

I'm interested in getting a Race Tech gold valve kit, or I'm considering going all out & buying the drop in cartridge fork kit. Has anyone tried this yet? If so are you happy with it? Was it worth the money?
-
Hello Luke, I'm glad to see that your problem got resolved. If you live in Pittsburg we have a Guzzi breakfast the 4th sunday of the month in Lisbon Ohio starting back up in April or May. The food is good & the coffee is hot...lots of Guzzi's & Guzzi owners too. We need more new people so if you're interested pm me.
