  1. You should have been good. It may have just been a "bad" bolt, but probably is a cheezy built to a price knock off with 8.8 stamped on the head. It's a crap shoot any more with hardware. There was even knock off AN hardware floating around a few years ago, but I think that has been sorted out by now.
  2. I always load test the battery with my cheapy Harbor Freight load tester before starting troubleshooting that kind of problem. I'm *not* saying that is your issue, but it is the root of many electrical issues. I've seen battery charges lie through their teeth, and say, "Oh yeah.. that battery is fine.." they should look for work in the political arena. My best guess is the starter has dropped a magnet..
  3. So, what *was* the torque spec? Size of bolt? I *hate* stuff like this.. maybe counterfeit?
  4. I've ridden it some, and it's fine as long as you aren't in town. Then.. it becomes a torture rack. *Very* heavy clutch pull and not a lot of steering lock. My take? It's a very elemental machine. If operating something like that floats your boat, (yep ) there's nothing better. Definitely not a rookie rider's bike at all. The Kid says, "I love love love it out on the road. It's the best credit card touring bike ever made." "I hate hate hate it in town, parking, and moving it around in the garage.."
  5. When the Bolt first came out, we were on the fence, looked at all the specs, and went with a high zoot Prius. Being a retired GM employee, I was just a little afraid of them not getting the tech right. Believe me, I've seen some engineering disasters. I'm glad to see this one working for you..
  6. You're right, it's not a sport. Welcome to the best place in the world for V11sports, btw..
  7. I could have bought one cheap in '78, but there was no place for my sweetie to sit. Bought a Darmah instead..
  8. The Kid saved an early 1100 Spot a few years ago. For it's "shake down" run we rode to the Carolinas and camped/moteled for a week. It was the first time he really rode it in anger and it sucked the valve cover gasket inward. Cost him a t shirt to do a field repair at camp. When I asked Pete about it, he said that was common with the "factory" gaskets. You can see where it is sucked in between the bottom two screws. 2017-06-04_01-30-18 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr
  9. Dorcia thought she's take me to this for Valentine's day. Maybe hit another brewery, go out to eat, stay overnight. She's such a good girl.. Any recommendations, Tim?
  10. Yeah, some sort of vent tube, not standard. Needs Roper plate. $3500.
  11. Good choice. They would probably screw up the shimming and trash your new stuff to boot.
  12. Attaboy. The material looks like glass filled polypropylene that we used to mold high strength parts out of at GM. When making prototypes, I used much the same process. I had a big hunker soldering iron that would make (sort of) a bead that I filled with the same material.
  13. You'll look good on it..
  14. Oh yeah. 5-6K in the canyons.. Careful, now..be *very* smooth with the throttle as you add it through the turn. Whew! These things sound amazing.. Chuck, Deacon Church of Guzzi
  15. Thanks for that.
  16. Congratulations. Now, I won't have to find that picture of the same thing I made up. I put the nozzle on the lathe and turned a little taper and chamfer on it to help. Third attempt is pretty good.
  17. A friend brought a swingarm to me because he couldn't get the bearing out. I brought out my blind bearing puller and tackled it with a grin. I couldn't get it out, either. I ended up welding a (don't remember) nut or bolt on the bearing and jacking it out. Nasty job, probably took an hour.
  18. From my maintenance records.. Rear suspension Rebound 24 clicks from full soft, compression 12 clicks from full soft. We're "about" the same weight. This was on the Mighty Scura.
  19. I'd weld a nut on it, myself. .
  20. Must....keep....wallet....closed..... Red...
  21. Uh oh.
  22. Chuck

    Scura clutch

Thanks for that, Phil.. I'll relay the info to Mark.
  23. I think there is a possibility of this stuff working. Guzzi Bob (RIP) used to slime his tubes on his T3 and Green frame. He said, sometimes the tubes would come out looking like a porcupine at tire change, but he never had a flat.
  24. Ahh, I've screwed up myself once or twice. The OP came clean, *bought a manual* and hopefully will be a contributing member.
  25. I won't argue that, but the OP really had no other choice. The "mineral spirits trick" has been done many times on Guzzis without a problem as far as I know, though. I did it myself on an LM5 when a shop "mechanic" had serviced it before I saved it.
