  3. Ok in reply to my redacted embarassment above, let's go through shift adjustment. Which even the early doors have. The point of the adjustment is to have the pawl evenly spaced in both directions over the pins. This is accomplished with the external flat-headed screwbolt next to the shift shaft. As stated elsewhere and many times, this is not an adjustment you can do correctly on the bike, there is very little latitude outside of 'correct'. The screw can be installed with the eccentric either up or down, but beginning with the eccentric 'down' or farthest from the shift shaft gives the least sensitivity to the adjustment. The adjustment itself is very fine, the entire range of success about 1/16th of a turn so you need 1/32nd of a turn accuracy. I've tried to show and represent the goal and pieces as clearly as possible. As for actually measuring the travel in both directions, you could set up in a vise, with calipers, and an extra set of hands to measure exactly but your eyes are calibrated sufficiently to move the shift plate back and forth to feel the pins in the pawl. Be sure to mark the slot in the screw before tightening the locknut to be sure it doesn't move while you tighten. If your cap nut looks like mine, get a shiny new one. Edit; don't even bother alone, without a vice. It isn't that easy. A magnetic dial indicator to tip the end of the pawl would be the cat's meow.

  5. Just reading through this old thread I started. I still maintain the pulse input speedometer is better than GPS, the gearbox has a speedo drive coupled to the rear wheel turning without much friction so why not use it? I do understand wanting to use modern GPS but what will happen when your fearless leader decides to turn the navigation satellites off, he's crazy enough to do that. He won't be able to turn my Speedo off. Once it's calibrated you're done all you need is a measured distance, they used to have them on the highway but I used a runners GPS for that. Cheers Roy

  6. Very pretty. I'm not allowed to own things so clean. The color is very near to the stock color on my '70 Norton Fastback, 'Fireflake Golden Bronze' though it looks like what I'd call 'Orange'.

  10. No more Mickey Mouse ears...replaced them with Motogadget mirrors and RhinoMoto bar ends. I like them a lot. Good view, much better than stock because they were too far inboard.

  12. Yes, but it wasn't clear to me *what it does*. Perhaps I didn't read closely enough. Upon review, the internal pawl clearance eccentric wasn't mentioned- unless it was through the middle of the thread. Again, to have spent the effort to install that where the early door has only a roll pin, it must have been a real complaint.

  13. Somewhere or other, maybe here, "Captain Kangaroo" came up. Having know the name for quite a while, but not exactly what it was, I looked it up. Quality television, no doubt. I know the name from this song. Having found out what "Captain Kangaroo" entails, I like the song even more. PS: "playing solitaire till dawn with a deck of 51". Brilliant...

  14. Welcome back Roy! Your contribution to the MG community, here and elsewhere, is legendary! I am certain there has been many a time when any of us Guzzi owner, faced with an electrical situation, said to themselves: "What would Kiwi Roy Do?" Glad to hear you you're still around and riding!

  15. A "cafe racer" must have clip-ons. To use a term that @Lucky Phil recently reminded me of, that is a Well Known Fact. Apart from that, they need to do something about those saggy tits.

  16. Given what I've posted above about adjustment, and if it's not too late, I'd be interested in knowing how your pawl is adjusted. Mine was so far out the pawl wouldn't fall over the pin upon release, certainly causing failed shifts though I'm not certain in which direction.

  20. Bar-ends for a sport - better looking and better visibility. And it frees up the mirror mount for a RAM ball, where I use a small arm and the quad-lock for my phone when I want navigation help. I'm impressed with the quad-lock system. I have the motogadget "glassless" mirrors on my Griso, but in the more angular, elongated-diamond shape. I like them. My Scura has the classic Napoleon bar-end mirrors. And I like the close mirror in your picture reflects an image of the far mirror.

  23. Holy Cow 3 95 for one measly little lamp we are Guzzi owners after all I'm with PJPRO1 on this, why would you replace the Incandescent lamps, use LEDs they are much easier to see in bright sunlight These are the ones i have used on all my Guzzi's and other projects https://www.superbrightleds.com/194-led-bulb-1-led-miniature-wedge-base These lamps draw a fraction of what an incandescent draws but they are much brighter provided you use a lamp the same colour as bezel Red for Red, Green for Green etc. The only one you need to treat as special is the Low fuel an LED doesn't draw enough current to heat up the thermistor type sensor so just wire one of the old Incandescents in parallel. The VII dash works particularly well as the lamp fits nicely in the white plastic Tee shape, just glue them in place with some epoxy like JBWeld Don't try to use lamp holders they don't work just solder the wires directly to the lamps Tip: Use a pair of forceps to hold the wire in place while you apply the iron & solder with nice electronic rosin core.solder.

  27. Er...somebody tell me what this 'adjuster' adjusts? It looks like a backstop for the pawl arm, where mine has a roll pin. The external adjuster on the newer style doors adjusts the center spring perch under the shaft plate, yes? Edit; I get to look stupid. My own door does have a centering adjustment-which obviously was not adjusted. Must be failure to verify, lack of sleep and the 98* garage. I still need someone to explain the 'backstop' adjuster as I don't see a purpose for it. Maybe it'll come to me in a dream. Sheesh. All for naught. Oh, and apologize to MG.

  33. Here we go again with the bar end mirrors. You can buy such elegant traditional mirrors these days why fit sticky outy mirrors on a bike and add 3 0r 4 inches to it's width and also have little slipstream catchers and weights on the ends of the bars a long way from the steering pivot point to influence the steering. Motorcycle should be as slim and narrow as practically possible Phil

  34. Today's labors was parcel tidbits. Roller berrin for shift detent- niiiice Pawl alignment- niiice Pivot pin nuts... uh... very, very nice says the price. Shame about the background at the moment. Don't forget, kids, do your pawl adjustment in the vice or do it twice. Now waiting for seals and pawl adjuster locknuts.

  35. It might look "interesting" but it's light years from "beautiful" A BM twin is just too mechanically quirky to be considered beautiful. Sticky out cylinders and massive final drive assembly is just not elegant enough to ever be beautiful. Phil

  36. Add clip-ons and that bike will be irresistible. Love the retro orange color...would like to see and ride one in person. I always that the progression of V11 Scura to Triumph Thruxton and now to this BMW would make a nice progression of Cafe racers.

  38. Yes, it is polished aluminium, as I mentioned above. I don't have them (yet), but really like the idea. From the blurb on the motogadget site: under "product details" https://www.motogadget.com/en/products/mo-view-classic-60 Particularly for bar-end mirrors, which are the first thing to hit the ground if the bike falls over. Particularly if they are, as is considered very, very cool here, mounted hanging down from the bars instead of above them. Seems to me that metal makes much more sense than glass in that situation.

  39. The type 194 is a perfect fit into the T shaped mounting, just stick it in place with some epoxy https://www.superbrightleds.com/194-led-bulb-1-led-miniature-wedge-base?queryID=03a57d74bc5acc52417e254f15bddd6e Solder the wires directly onto the lamp, there's no space for lamp holders, besides which the LED will be still operating long after you sell the bike.

  40. Despite assuring there are no issues with the external shifter parts, I still get occasional false neutrals or other funky shifting problems. So, with a heavy heart I pulled the shifter cover to see what's what. Before disassembly, it appears the detent roller could benefit from a tweak and that the eccentric adjustment was done with a yardstick. Downshifts and upshifts bring different points on the shift selector close to the adjuster, will set the tighter one to spec. Will upgrade to the super spring and smooth out the recommended surfaces in search of Japanese shifter delight. I'm sure there will be questions as things come apart.

  42. Funny that, because, being a circuit, everything in it is equally important. Otherwise, the circuit wouldn't be a circuit, but rather maybe a semi-circle or a drag-strip or something.

  43. Recently, a fellow explained to me that motorcycles are essential to a man's survival, even if they are sitting in the garage just to be gazed upon. His compelling argument? "Dinosaurs didn't have motorcycles. Look what happened to them !"

  44. I see my Traxxion Dynamics fork springs are 1.0 kg/mm with 120mm spacers. Traxxion Dynamics included the aluminum spacers. I see some forum references that the early V11 Sport 40 mm Marzocchi were fitted with 0.65 kg/mm springs. I am not sure what the spring rate might have been on the 2003 LeMans.

  45. Chatting with a couple other South'n Spine Raiders, the question came up asking how many miles I have ridden mySport on SSRs #1/2004 through XX/2024. It was fun going back through my travel logs and finding 12,643 miles of SSR! Now, I admit I rode all of that in "miles", yet twenty thousand kays has a nice ring to it.

  46. Well, I will; of course any Guzzi can use them, but I'm not at all sure the... RWB flag bearing brands are reserving the spaces they take. OH then there's that one ugly duckling (Gosling) that only has the Eagle on the front.
