My concerns maybe unfounded but they are my concerns and until I get a product in my hand to evaluate it’s quality, they will remain as such. I have been burned too many times buying parts sight unseen.

There is always a risk in buying parts unseen. Given the successful track record of this particular part I'd say the risk is low. But then again the risk of oil starvation is also low but not that low...

  2. It's ok to have an open and adult conversation with questions and concerns. Aside from myself I assume everyone here is an adult.

Given that @DucatiGuzziIndian is working with the same file as @Pressureangle there should be zero concern about fit (barring some catastrophic manufacturing error, like inches for metric) and assuming the basic QA is done (best case is fitting one of the new production items up to a bike).

And yes, it's should always be acknowledged that people are investing THEIR time and money to provide a service to the community. Unlike me who just instigates things like this. :-)

And lastly, anytime to use the term "Rusty Star Picket" in a sentence is a win in my book!

PS: With all due respect, I hope it is not too much of a blind faith to trust DGI, a newcomer to these shores, to produce plates within the original specs that will fit and function as they should  - says the worrywort - ...

Fit and quality isn't a big concern. I'm also not that worried about them running off with everyone's $100 bill, even if they are new around here.

I've had that, but on nicely asphalted roads.

I had a job for a concert from Jose Carreras in a tennis hall in Lech am Alberg. Probably this building, I reckon.

    https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/121005999#map=17/47.21394/10.14905

We went up there in a 7.5 tonne truck (due to license and insurance parameters a common size here. It used to be the biggest vehicle you could drive with a standard car license...). That means the side window is about 2 metres above the ground. We drove in to the village, no problems, all the roads cleared and everything, but we were looking out the side windows level with the top of the snow next to the road.

I was amazed. Up to that point, the deepest snow I had ever seen was about 2 feet.

People don't really fathom how much snow there can be at the higher elevations. Mountain snow is typically measured in feet, not inches.

Moto, running the 50mm throttlebodies without adequate filtration will kill them stone dead in next to no time. Believe me, after working with them for fifteen years I have a lot of experience in this. TB damage is one of the major Achilles heels of the 8V CARC bikes and the problem is, I'm certain, one of the reasons the Cali 14 went to a single throttlebody with plenum system.

To be fair it looks like it's gone some miles already. On borrowed time no doubt.

Are they really good for anything?

I ask as someone who has recently bought a low-mileage Breva 750, i.e. prime marketing target for those tyres.

Reading the blurb for Roadrider, I've always had the impression that they are probably that which I and my friends in Melbourne in the late 80's would have referred to as "Taxi tyres", i.e. tyres which last well but don't offer all too much in the way of grip, handling, or whatever. :huh2:

Well, from the last show I went to these were some of the bikes sporting the Avon Roadriders. So, yes, they aren't the highest performance tires but for a lot of bikes they don't need to be.

Is the roof kit a Ford accessory or other?

I see the Cinnamon Pass sign. Did you get into Ouray?

Roof rack from Hooke. Rooftop tent from Inspired Overland.

Went to Silverton to get up to Cinnamon Pass. Couldn’t take the full Alpine Loop as Engineer Pass was still closed. Cinnamon had just been opened a week or so before we got there. You can see how deep the snow was here. To the top of the tent is 7.5ft

I want to go to Ouray but next time.

We did 7500 miles cross country one summer. Oregon to Virginia, DC, NJ and NY, then back. Saw so many places that would be so hard to see by flying. It was such a fantastic trip, as yours probably was!

If you can't tell by some pictures with no captions... yes it was an awesome trip. :)

Just as an update, we're evaluating the costs of restocking these plates; We had them cut at a local laser shop last time, which requires a minimum order (if the material comes in 4x8 sheets like many, that's ~36 pieces) vs. buying cut squares and machining them on our own equipment (much less up-front costs) as we can set up and run one or a hundred as required with only the raw material as overhead. It took 3 years to find homes for 50 pieces, I don't expect demand to increase so unless cost or quantity discount go down, we'll probably take route 2. That comes with a different set of problems, primarily edge finish as Stainless doesn't cut as cleanly as normal steel. Truly, sharp edges don't much matter once installed, but there can be no burrs or bits to interfere with sealing or become loose debris.

So added costs to finish the edges?

There was never a question about when, only about how many. It'll take a minute to run through the quoting process, as materials, supply chain, and labor rates have all increased substantially since the first batch. I'm already on it.

    Any updates?

  11. 43rd Annual Show, and always dear in my heart as it was the first time I saw a Greenie in person and I haven't been so insufferable since. :D

Much to the consternation of the president of the club I park my bike on the field but don't register it so it can get voted on. I just do it because I can keep an eye on it. :P

Pit stop on the way home. Also because the green looks fabulous in the sun.

Not bad for only 12 days since the start of that campaign!

I should have put in a disclaimer about my questionable math skills. It's comes from telling my wife how many bikes I have vs. how many I may have...
