  1. Say what? I don;t have to put another Harley part on my Sport? I can *upgrade* to a Hall effect sensor? This needs a new thread of its own!
  2. Because of the fuel pump, I would expect it does carry the most consistent current. I have an infrared temperature reader, so might-could get some readings before long. Hmmm . . . South'n Spine Raid TechSession? (We've measured and compared rear drive temps before . . .) EDIT: Kiwi_Roy figured the #5 Relay is handling at least 22.5 amps: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12326&p=201362 That would be a challenge for a 20 amp relay!
  3. That should work. I've never tried it before, but have run both of those tires quite a lot. Stickier front makes sense to me. I just discovered a correlation between my typical rear tire service and the average mileage I'm riding each year of late: both about 4,000 miles. Which consistently translates to coming home on a worn out tire on my autumn rides. I have just got to break this cycle . . .
  4. Ah: the Kiwi_Roy Go_Winkie. It's only on the bars (or anywhere) to be visible if sputtering occurs. I do have one installed, but am admittedly vague on what it isolates. I could never catch my TPS glitch (potentiometer worn at a singular point) watching millivolts on my Triplett meter. Yet, it was really obvious watching resistance as I opened and closed the TPS - always jumped at the same opening.
  5. Wait . . . the early V11 motor can be made an oil squirter by changing the rods? I didn't know how that was done.
  6. I want me some lightened, polished, balanced rods, too. But those things ^ . . . have to be grown onto the crankshaft like an Avatar on Mars? They look beyond even sintered and fractured . . .
  7. Maybe I could go way back and find the post, but somewhere back in 2003 I said that if there was a worldwide expert on the Guzzi 6speed gearbox, it was *us* . . . Now, we know exactly who that is! LuckyPhil . . . . Chuck . . . Baldini . . . Belfastguzzi . . . There are others, but, hey, thanks so much to all who have revealed the mysteries of Guzzi's first 6speeder. This is not a bad (gear)box at all, but just needs the right *love*
  8. I think it's really noble of everyone to get this sort of thing out of our systems before a Spine Raid . . .
  9. Docc...don't I wish! I come by here often to ogle these beautiful V11s and i often regret ever selling either of mine. ; > ( BTW I did post in the fuel tank thread. Currently toying with the idea of trading off my 15 Triumph Tiger XRX to rejoin the flock! A good friend is in the process of transitioning from a Tiger to a 1200Sport. He's pretty excited! I can write you a note!
  10. Agreed, but I would suspect the TPS. Doubly agreed!
  11. 'We few, we lucky few! we band of brothers!"
  12. The kind of surreal experience that happens in slow motion but the physics don't change!
  13. Got an education yesterday and today on the "late model" (1200Sport/Norge) tip-over switch that defeats the fuel pump, petcock, and start relay. Not that it tipped over, but if the switch ("baby rattle") isn't oriented correctly, the bike will not start. These can be complicated beasts . . .
  14. That's another good thread that puts a finger on all the likely culprits (they're all worth a look and some fine fettling. When my Sport was doing this, I found a few contributors, but a bad TPS made a major difference. I couldn't find it watching the change in millivolts with my meter, but by disconnecting the TPS and watching the resistance in the finer settings, I could see an abrupt *jump* as the TPS opened and closed across a specific point. New Harley-Davidson TPS and big improvement. The rest of that odyssey meanders through this thread spanning seven years: Nasty Hiccup Now, that's a bad case of the hiccups! That said, sometimes a really thorough and complete tune-up is all that it takes.
  15. "Marked" 100,000 miles on the Sport following a couple good friends on a sweet little curvy road on the way to get another Guzzi ready for next weekend's South'n Spine Raid. Success on both counts! Beautiful photo, Gino! And fabulous to be riding with Fiona!
  16. I'm jealous! And happy for you! (There is a tune-up procedure posted in "Frequently Asked Questions"): http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12204 There are some improvements and perhaps "easier" methods that could give you excellent results. It would be a good topic post for the Technical Topics as we all probably need to revisit this "tune-up" idea!
  17. If your V11 is misbehaving, it could make for our next TechSession. We'll show it who's boss!
  18. Seems V11 values are on an upswing!
  19. docc

    wow, nice V11

Right? Is that a reed switch or something out of The Avengers?
  20. See there? We're right back to the Urinal Standard of Volumetric Measures . . .
  21. Wait - is the Imperial gallon based on liters? I thought it was based on the volume of body fluid the King might offer up on a typical night of reverie . . . Seriously, I thought the US gallon/ "quart", metric liter, and Imperial gallon were three different things?
  22. I'll bring my Sport for those purposes. I hear it is like an elephant in a cocktail dress. Or something like that . . .
  23. BC uses Imperial gallons or US gallons? Kilometers or miles?
  24. Every ounce counts on a 500 lb. airplane.. Wow - my Sport weighs more than that!
  25. Heh - without anything nearby for scale, I thought that aircraft picture was a model sitting on a table . . . I thought, "Wow, saved a pound. Outstanding!"
