I wanted everything to be red and black except for the motive unit. That way, it draws your eye to the big jugs. I likes big jugs..

Uhh, that won't play well with Lucky Phil. I trolled him a couple of times when I did the Aero Lario build. He did not like my gaudy gaiters at all..

I use it all the time. It's not my main brake, of course.

SOLD - 2003 Moto Guzzi V11 LeMans - San Francisco area
Chuck replied to jmardy's topic in Personal Ads
Strange. The seat (Rich Maund) and cowl on the Mighty Scura came from Eldo Jon's champaign LeMans that a friend of his crashed. I've never taken the time to paint it black. Of course..it *is* Guzzi we're talking about. -
I may or may not have solved my battery rat's nest of wires this way. I was at a gun show, and a guy was selling commemorative coins for something.. don't remember. But.. they were supposedly 100% copper and cheap. (Guzzi content) So I bought a couple, sawed them 3/4" wide, bent them 90 degrees, and soldered a nut on the back. I see some green showing where I apparently didn't get any Vaseline. Time will tell if this is a long term fix.

You'd be guessing wrong. California roads are as good as you get in the states. I've been everywhere, man.. wrote a song about it. SoCal *is* crowded.. on the weekends. During the week, I pretty much have the canyons to myself. Don't get me wrong.. I love NW Arkansas, too, along with Colorado, the Virginias, Carolinas and N. Georgia. Too many frost heaves in the green and white mountains of the Northeast takes them off the list. My favorite road of all time used to be Beartooth pass from Red Lodge to Yellowstone, although fairly rough. The scenery is freakin awesome, though. Then, I rode 180 east of Visalia, Ca. Up to the top of the mountain range and back down, glass smooth pavement, maybe 50 yards is the longest straight. Talk about technical.. California roads are hard to beat.

He has a supercharged nitrous 1400 bike, but it's also his own frame. All sillyness, of course, but he customers with plenty of money. Agreed. I think they're as ugly as a board fence. Just the same, the workmanship on Todd's Jackal is excellent.

I know Pete has some animus toward Todd Egan .. but Todd has always treated me like family. Saw him at the Rock Store the last time I was in SoCal, caught up on old times.. and this is what is left of his Jackal. Pete has said he would like to see a carc on a "modern" Guzzi, so here it is. It's behind a heated up V11S engine. High zoot front end etc. etc. Very well done, too.

They are 'nice' riding roads, but best? Naa. Of course, you may prefer different fish and chips than I do..

Ya know, Roy.. I did the startus interuptus following your most excellent directions..including cleaning up the ignition switch and relay socket. After that, I did the direct feed from the solenoid to the battery trick. 15 times in a row. No issues. Cranked instantly every time. Fixed. So I thought. Until I took it for a ride, was 20 miles away, and it blew the fuse again. That's when I bought the Amazon special.

The rule is: if the knob is on the left hand side, it's a left hand thread.

I would be more than happy to take those off your hands for spare parts..

Ron.. the Mighty Scura uses this one http://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=382&products_id=2474 Their website says it is out of stock. Is it still working? It's nothing more than a thermistor pressed into the end of a plastic tube, a couple of wires, and a nut to screw it to the bung. You could probably glue the thermistor with some fuel proof glue it that is the problem. To check it, just unplug it and see if there is *some* resistance between the two wires. Normally, a bad one doesn't have any.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0081SAT1I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They cost less now than when I bought them. *I don't know* if they are as good as they look on the outside or not. Time will tell.

It is repairable, so don't throw it away. Save it for when you absolutely can't find a used one to replace it with. It will take some expertise, and won't be cheap. As L P said, the cracks will have to be Ved out , bead blasted, pre heated, welded, and remachined.

There are two things that go wrong. Bad starter or bad solenoid. When I had the Mighty Scura in SoCal, the solenoid started sticking and blowing fuses. Mark at MG Classics had a big box of them from when he warranted them as a dealer. He told me to rummage through them and find one with a dropped magnet, take the solenoid off, and replace it on mine. Did that, and it was fine for several years until last year in BF Wisconsin. Brought it home, took it apart, cleaned, etc. Worked fine on the bench. Once it got hot, like stopping for a gas stop, though.. I'm entirely too old to bump start this big girl. Bought one off Amazon for 60 some bucks. It *appears* to be very well made, and works fine. Fine enough that when the Bosch on the Aero Lario started acting up, I threw it onto the "rebuildable Guzzi junk" pile with tag on it and bought another Amazon special. They are cheaper than buying parts to rebuild the stock starters..

Our ISP is (almost) tits up right now, so I can't show pix. Saw Footgoose briefly, an airhead beemer couple from southern Indiana, and John & Karla Barnes with step son Todd. (Kentucky rally movers and shakers.) Stayed in the downtown Art deco Hilton, and rode the trolley right to the brewery. The beer was good..

I believe you've found it. I was at the Ohio rally a few years back. Heavy dew. (!) All packed up, ready to go, push the button, and.... nothing. Unpacked all my stuff, took out my earplugs, realized the fuel pump wasn't running, took the seat off, wiggled the relays, checked the fuses, varooom.
-
My guess, and it is only a guess, is the crankshaft sensor. Maybe gapped a little too wide? In that scenario, it will run at idle, but won't take throttle.
-
For whatever reason, our beloved V11s seem to be abnormally susceptible to corrosion on the relay bases/relays. I'm clueless (my normal condition) as to why.

Like I said.. many esoteric electrical problems are nothing more than a dead battery. Get yourself a load tester. They're cheap. (Guzzi content)

Almost everything is. Here's the deal. The Chinese are perfectly capable of making a $5 bolt. However, if the retailer wants a $1 bolt that they can sell at $3, they can make that, too. If you want, they can make a 29cent bolt that you can sell for $2 to unsuspecting customers. They don't care, they just make what the retailer wants at the price they are willing to pay. I've said for years that if we had enough rope we'd hang ourselves. Now, we've sent all the rope making machinery..and the expertise to run it.. to China. As my favorite actor Babe the Pig said, "That's the way life is."

I've had a couple.. a Mk3, and a Monza. Sweet runners.
