Picked her up today after a 2hour test yesterday. Highway home from the dealer today, about 100m in cold weather. Can't wait for nicer weather. She feels light, so betting she will be fun in the mountains. More later. Cheers Tom. Sent fra min SM-S906B via Tapatalk5 points

I saw him cut 4 laps on that bike at the Indy Mile during MotoGP weekend. He rode it hard and was power sliding it, he looked as fast at the racers. Anyway, the crowd went wild, and the announcers were giving him praises and Yamaha did some commemorations, all the while Kenny never says a word. Finally they ask Valentino Rossi if he'd like to try it....in his accent "Noooo, it loooks a lidddle toooo dangerous." Kenny answers with his first words of the night, "He's smarter than he looks."5 points

Indeed! and Minarelli was selling a load of "racing only" parts for it. Cylinders with improved transfers, Pistons, admission pipes, Dell'Orto, exhausts... these engines were completely customizable. Maybe it was a good thing they stole mine after all.5 points

Sorry to report that my last plate has been sold. I had 50 plates made, and it took 4 years to use them all; I can have them made at any time, but every plate sold is one less needed and these bikes are getting older and fewer every day so I have to consider how many to have made again. Certainly the price of manufacture and material will have gone up, and there is a minimum quantity for economy which I also have to discover. So at this point I will ask that anyone interested PM me and leave a reply here to start a list so I have some idea how to move forward with the next batch.5 points

Wish I could have kept it , now have a Le Mans without the fairing and a high bar conversion in my old age, I’ve owned and restored 15 V11s in the last 12 years, probably most of them in the UK3 points

FWIW, I purchased my heat resistant foil tape at Autozone. The tape is distributed by https://www.designengineering.com/ they also sell other types of heat & sound proof materials. Art2 points

I'm almost a little jealous of what you guys could ride at that age. In Victoria, Australia there is no way for a teenager younger than 17 years 9 months to ride anything at all with a motor on the road. At that age, one can (or could when I was that age) get a learners permit. These days I believe it is a power to weight constraint, in my time it was a maximum 250cc motor. That's why the japanese 2-stroke 250cc pocket-rockets sold like hot cakes a few years later. When one turns 18, one can do the driver's license test (car and motorcycle). The constraint remains for at least a year, might be two years now. My first bike was a Suzuki GSX 250 E. I would have sold my granny to get Kawasaki KR 250. I learned to ride in the paddocks on our farm when I was about 16 on one of these Just about every farm in the area had one, and they all had a couple of feet of black plastic water pipe strapped, bolted, or wired on to the side away from the exhaust, pointed up at an angle to stick the handle of the shovel into. The shovel was for opening and closing the irrigation channels. The thing doesn't look quite right to me without a shovel sticking up out of the back. If I remember rightly, ours was red, which may mean it was the "road" model and not a Trail.2 points

Could you please add me to the list for one slosh plate for my 2004 Ballabio. Thanks2 points

Well, I have one already installed on my ‘04 V11 CS, it came to me that way. I don’t know if it’s an original Moto Moda or one of the Rusty Star Picket Project one but I will put my name down for one if only to get the next batch underway and just for the sake of availability. Besides, you never know when a another V11 might follow you home... Thanks Eric!2 points

I did my tank after seeing how bad the original material was, cutting multiple templates and modifying the shape for a better fit. I don't remember exactly where I got the stuff, but it pretty much matches what everyone else seems to have. One thing is for sure: simply taking the time to fit the pieces correctly will be immensely better than what I found under my tank! ( figured it must have been a five vino lunch break on a Friday when mine was done in Italy)...🤪2 points

I don't know if it's been posted here before but John Fish over on WG is selling a nice black 2000 V11 Sport for $3000 and I can't believe it hasn't gotten any taker since he first posted it in January. https://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=117324.0 Edit: I found it in the classified https://www.v11lemans.com/forums/topic/28605-2000-v11-sport-3000-sw-pa/2 points

For certain, the V11 is exceptionally sensitive to even very minor intake leaks as well as exhaust leaks. These can add up to a maddening crusade to hunt down and eradicate idle issues and the nefarious sub-4000 rpm cough/hiccup. Ever the Beta Tester, and afflicted with a painfully inquisitive mind , I removed my Air Bypass Screws for cleaning this Decent Tune-up : Yep, they were really sooty and nasty. Far worse than this "representative image" shows: Then I got the clever idea that the 20+ year old O-rings could be suspect (green, left: below). One, especially, looks deformed and damaged. So, I locally sourced Viton O-rings in "Standard" size #008. They look (and measure) a bit undersize (black, right: below): After waiting at a crowded counter at my expert rubber&gasket resource (along with folks repairing bulldozers and well drilling equipment ), the good man sizes the wee O-ring as metric 4mm I.D. x 2mm cross section. The #008 is indeed a bit undersize. He figures Viton is the right choice and orders them for me. (I had him get a dozen so the well drillers would let me live) and asked him what the OEM green O-rings could be. He figured EPR (or EPDM) as used with refrigerant, but no way they could have lasted all this time (me: "thinking" ). So, what are the OEM green air bypass screw O-rings? Nitrile? And, isn't it coming time these hidden leak sources might start contributing to our madness if undetected?1 point

PS: the reason we (i.e me and my siblings) were allowed to ride the CT 90 is because my dad had upgraded to one of these: I can't remember having been allowed to ride that. Too powerful... ( 8.3 h.p. ) As I started looking for pictures of that, I found this: https://supply.unicef.org/s0004120.html apparently the thing is to this day "standard equipment" for Unicef missions, and this article from 2017 https://www.mcnews.com.au/yamaha-ag-legend-back-better-than-ever/ The bike was great. Indestructable. I expect my dad never did any maintainance above putting fuel in it, and it went for years. I'm don't think ours had it, but newer ones had a side-stand on both sides so one could safely park the bike pretty much anywhere without having to juggle around to get it facing the right way to match the lay of the land. But I'm quite simply amazed that they are apparently still being produced. My dad bought his in about 1979.1 point

Nothing beets new rubber,,, or was the old Oring of better quality. Any leaks is bad, but a tiny leak there ? Thanks docc for finding out. Perfect is nice even agricultural vehicles . Cheers Tom.1 point

Was waxing the V11 the other day and discovered the guts of my RH front turn signal wanted to come out with the lens loose and not wanting to snap back in place. The signal's front had all my attention. Ordered a replacement. Buffing it out today, I noticed a screw on the back side of the turn signal. Tightened it up....all is well. Guess I need a time out before replacing the cam belts on the Ducati....1 point

161km in the hills today. Yes a great new toy, a modern Guzzi . Mapping, very good. Love the 105nm at 3500rpm. Means you can behave in normal traffic, BUT what a curb lover. Ok, new bike and all that excitement , I like her. Seen the rear light lighted, Italian. What a beautiful exhaust, no slip ons comes close, and and. Love to hear others experience with the Mandello. More for real comments later. Good friday gents Cheers Tom.1 point

Too cool, @Steve S ! I have long wondered how many V11 have benefited from your stewardship. Regarding the OE front brake pads, Tim at CadreCycle in Cincinnati, Ohio/USA, tells me he has three sets of these GU01654630 at $73.00US. Each V11 uses two sets. This morning OPP Racing sent me a tracking number for the order I made last night. Another member here tells me he has used OPP extensively for Brembo components and parts.1 point

I only use organic on my old cast iron rotors and and I'm sensitive to what I use on my stainless steel rotor bikes. I thought I just put on a pair of EBC sinterred organics or a light sinter, but I can't verify that with an old package;everything I've got on hand is Brembo Best Originals sinterred organics? idk You might be onto something with a supply issue developing, I just ran all the Brembo pad part #'s I have in my spares stash through both MG Cycle & Brembo's site, none of them showed up, wtf! I've got spares with that Brembo # 107670810 that match the info Speedfrog dug up above. If they're in stock some place, might be wise to pick em up.1 point

Thanks, again, @Speedfrog. I made an order from OPP Racing and will hope for the best. I just cannot run these "sinter" pads.1 point

Here are a couple of hits: https://www.oppracing.com/product_display/30979-brembo-oe-brake-pad-set-ferit-i-d-450ff-pad-kit-for-206800xx-209230xx-caliper-shape-m-107670810/ https://www.accu-products.com/107670810-ferit-i-d-450ff-pad-kit-for-20-6800-xx-caliper.html You would have to inquire for stock though, but almost half the price than AF1 or Cadre (GU01654630)1 point

Wow! Congratulations, what a beauty. That's the first time I've ever noticed, how the exhaust headers flow down and back in towards the bottom of the frame, very nice lines. Once you get some miles in the saddle I'm very interested to hear your impressions compared to your V11.1 point
-
Those little Italian roadsters have such beautiful flowing lines;much more graceful, than the industrial beaky looking crap they're pushing out now, jmho. I had a 1969-70? Italian matching twin for the small trail bikes that was rebadged and sold by Bombardier in Canada. I "think" the company that made my 70-90? cc Bombardier trail bike was something like "Agratti Garelli" ? idk; looked just like that Caballerro.1 point

Yes it can be done. My Greenie was realy making me nuts, dont know how many times I tuned her, everything super, just 2800-3100rpm. So lucky to met a gent with a Quota who has the knowledge to enter the brain and use tunerpro. TPS is VERY important, and added a little fuel in that area. Probably not 100%, but she runs so good, NO stumbling at all, for sure I have tried everything to have her sneeze, ZERO. BIG smile in the helmet all day, and even when parked looking at her at night to. All of my V11 runs GREAT now. It's hope out there Cheers Tom.1 point

I'm not sure a "Banter" thread can be drifted. They are like a conversation at a party.... Drifting a "How to" thread, on the other hand . . .1 point

My apologies as well for hijacking @Joe's thread... to my defense, @LowRyter started it... @docc you could migrate the "Fantic Motor / Caballero" content to a new thread if you'd like.1 point

You're right! Fantic Motor was the brand and Caballero was one of their models. Memory fade...!1 point

No surprise there as Moto Guzzi had officially shown a "Coming Soon" landscape ideal showcase an adventure bike. The Moto Guzzi V85TT is Guzzi's best selling motorcycle; it makes a lot of sense. The Stelvio would be my number one choice if I had room. Not the the V100; the 1200 Stelvio NTX. I want my cylinders air cooled.1 point

If I wanted a dual-sport or Adv bike, I'd rather it look like this than something with beak on it.1 point

Yes, I already knew about heat shields being used by the Muscle Car/Hot Rod crowd to insulate blowers in turbocharged engine and keep air intake cool, and we used to have a couple of independent shops around here that were great resources for everything automotive. Unfortunately they went the way of the dodo as everything can now be found with a couple of clicks on a keyboard. The trouble with that is you don't get to talk to anyone with any knowledge of - and even less get to see/touch - the product you're buying. That's why I find personal hands-on experience with a particular product highly valuable.1 point
-
https://www.designengineering.com/ I've used material from these guys to protect the radiator hose on my Pan Am from header proximity. Lots of good stuff for gearheads.1 point
-
If you are ever idling in traffic, then heat can rise quickly under the tank. The result is hot fuel, which is bad. Insulation on the tank lower surface, external pump, and filter are valuable to avoid vapor lick. You can get a snort during a hot start that can pop the throttle bodies off. Don't ask how I know this. If you always go fast, then you don't need to replace it.1 point
