I'm reintroducing myself to this forum. I was on it around 2004 or so when I owned a V11 Ballabio. I sold that bike to help with the down payment on a house. Since then I've had several bikes mostly Ducatis including a black 2005 999S. At 69 y.o. that bike, although I loved it dearly, was just not working for me at this time of my life. I sold the 999S and had always wanted a V11 Le Mans. I searched around for a really nice example and located this stunning 14,000 mile 2002. Rode it home from Sonora via hwy 49, one of my favorites. Looking forward to re-joining the group.

I'll remind you again that the V11 is now more than 25 years old, the threshold for vintage status with some clubs. Now do you feel old? Good. Alas only one V11 showed up but it's a stunner. Hopefully you'll enjoy some of the other bikes too. It was the Norton's turn to go for me. Next year I'll probably take the V11 because... it'll still be vintage too.

The formal method is to use an axle through the support bearing in the swingarm that has a ring to centre on the outgoing axle of the gearbox. Horizontal adjustment is with the swingarm bearing bolts and vertical is by fixing the bolts of the underframe and the battery plate. In practice centering the swingarm axle bolts (on the side) is the way to go. With many thanks to JCK from NL

I have a Magni Sfida 1100, essentially a Sporti running the legacy version of MyECU. The installation and map was made by the previous owner of the bike and I haven't messed with it, I've never felt the need. About the only thing I've did is reset the TPS a few times. I'm not fussed on the finer points of how the engine runs, it accelerates pretty well and has more than enough power for my needs Probably a bit on the rich side, it has K&N pods, again it came to me this way. Mine can on ocassion, be a little reluctant to fire up cold, but not to the point I feel the need to mess with it. Just saying you're not alone with this setup

Indeed I did, and very happy about that I am. I'm back home in Germany now. We arrived this afternoon. About 30 hours travel time, and about 5 hours sleep on the way, so I'm not feeling all that chirpy right now. It was great to be able to put faces to a couple of names. I got to see all of my immediate family, which was good, and a couple of good long-term friends. It didn't feel like a holiday, but I'm glad I made the trip. Maybe I'll be able to get a bit more time for the next visit, so I don't feel so much like I'm ticking the boxes on a tight schedule. I hope so. We'll see...

Just center it up and you're good. Run it up and down just to be sure something won't snag, but I don't think there's enough latitude for adjustment to cause any trouble.

Doc, yes your picture is of the plate that is missing on mine. I’ve read that Moto Guzzi actually missed installing these numbered plates on some bikes but have no confirmation of this. Of the 18 or 19 bikes Moto Guzzi imported into the UK originally only 8 are not accounted for on the registry. The question is could one of those 8 be mine?

Connect a small 12 Volt lamp between the starter solenoid trigger terminal and chassis, Does it turn on when you press Start? With the key turned On does the headlight turn On, it should then go Off when you press Start

Hey my V11 fellows! Finally I got my beauty from Amsterdam! I rode it through Hamburg - Kodling - Thisted! Still on the way back to Stavanger! I just love it! Its just fine. If you’re going into the gearbox it’s really worth shimming the selector drum properly.

Thanks team for your suggestions around the brake master kit. I've been trying to keep costs down but it is beginning to look like a fully new master will be my only option. I'll report back. Without wanting to de-rail the coffe stop aspect, is that a new, small-block V7? If so, you can almost certainly put a V85 / V9 clutch in it. Easy to do, although it takes a bit of time, and worlds of difference. I've done the mod to my V35 Imola, and am seriously thinking about doing it to my Breva 750. There is a thread on the topic here somewhere, but given that I got back to Germany from Australia this afternoon (30 hours travel with about 5 hours sleep on the way...) I'm not motivated to go looking for the link. If you're interested, mention it here and I'll try and dig it up.

I've seen that rumour a few times, but am not convinced they will go ahead with it. There is too much marketing potential in maintaining the V2 across the frame, I reckon. We'll see.

The two clutch discs are stuck to the intermediate plate. I have not tried to separate them, but a fair amount of rust. I'm sure it will all clean up.

The California II has been crabbed! Not a bad job, it is giving me a reason to address a few things, I'm going to go ahead and replace the throttle cables, clean up some surface rust, deep clean a few hard to get places. I have the clutch upgrade kit on the way, the clutch job transmission seal kit, rear main engine seal and a couple of other things.

Agreed. The 190 is right out of my driveway, so it's my backyard ride. The 190 has had some challenges in the last few years, specifically in March of 2023. We had a severe fire that previous Summer, and when a warm rain came in March, mudslides took out huge sections. 190 was closed for a year or so. Then, on top of that one of my favorite spots, Ponderosa Lodge, burned to the ground that Winter. The owners couldn't get insurance and now only a slab remains. I'm happy to report that CalTrans did a excellent job on the repairs, and many sections have been repaved. Don't know if it's allowed, however here is a photo of my 999S on the Western Divide Hwy on a stellar day (I haven't had the Guzzi up there yet). Also a photos of the 190 between Camp Nelson and Ponderosa after the storm and Ponderosa Lodge on fire. P.S. The 245 out of Woodlake is great too!

190 east out Springville is my favorite asphalt on the planet.

I'm in Springville, so the 190, Western Divide, Parker Pass and Greenhorn Pass/155 are home turf. I've also done Sherman, Tioga,Sonora etc but not for a while since the 999S wasn't much of a distance bike. There are some fantastic under the radar rides around here!

I just rode Caliente-Bodfish and Sherman Pass recently, which was a "shortcut" between Carlsbad and Mammoth Lakes. About where in the foothills are you?

I have close to the same bike. Mine has 4 inch risers on the handlebars and I picked up a Puig windshield which gives great protection. The bike handles speed very easily and the suspension handles dips etc. very well. Parts were scratched up so I did a spray can paint job on everything but the tank. Mine shows the month of manufacture in the top left of the label on the neck of the frame. 2002 registered as 2003. Long frame with the gap at the front of the tank but it still gets the soft pad on the top of the gas tank. Speedo is in MPH so it was a U.S. bike originally I expect.

My pup at the time, Austin, did a clutch job on his G5. I saw the hanger door go up and 4pm, and he rode it out at 10 pm. You need "the box." that's about the only special tool.

Volvo earthmover fuel tanks are HDPE. It is very easy to weld repair, given the right equipment and filler; I cut pieces from ruined tanks as filler and patches.

I finally have the luggage rack on the bike! It took a while to arrive, and even worse, it was a bit crooked and didn't want to fit! Thankfully we were able to bend it back and now it's on there perfectly straight. Unfortunately I also noticed a new scratch on the right side of the fairing today... The bike already has plenty of them, but this one is white and extra noticeable, so I'll have to sort that out.. But now that I can easily carry some luggage, I'm already planning a trip to Luxembourg with my brother later this month!

That's an interesting bit of WTF. It's good policy and mandatory on many auto/truck manual units to indicate the bellhousing for concentricity, using offset dowels to correct. iirc the '51 Waukesha monster I rebuilt had a max runout of .003" allowed. Pity it would be so hard to verify in MG.

Be aware as well that some Cali 2’s, and strangely it only seemed to be Cali 2’s, had a weird misalignment of the input shaft of the gearbox and the crank which meant that the friction plates wore very fast in the clutch. The cause was apparently the stud fitment or the dowels on the studs, it’s a L-O-N-G time ago now and I can’t remember the details. This meant the shafts were not concentric so when separated they sort of oscillated around and wore away to nothing is a very short period of time. Not related to this issue I don’t think but worth being aware of. Certainly while you’re in there you would be barmy not to install a deep spline clutch. Whatever you do don’t use Surflex friction plates.

Thanks for the input, I may go that route after I pull the transmission and see what is going. Right now I'm getting my '84 XL350R running again so I can sell it to make a little more room in the garage.

Thanks to all for the advice. Looks like checking the carb and fuel supply to the carbs is the starting point. Will follow up on the other items if a bit of carb maintenance doesn't cure it.

Enrichened plunger stuck open? Flooding due to stuck float? Does it have the dark brown anodised carb bodies? If so it may be suffering from the float spindle pillar *Growth* issue. First thing would be strip , clean and rebuild the carburettors though. Disgusting things. Should be outlawed! Also check the advance mechanism in the distributor is moving freely.
