Fantastic ride out of around 150 miles today to a Buell & Guzzi meet at Sywell Aerodrome. I rode down with a group of 4 bikes; my V11, 1100 Sport Corsa, Cali 950 & a Triumph Tiger 800. My V11 and the 1100 Sport were the only spine frames there amongst the masses of V85’s & V7’s, even 2 new V100’s. The ride pace was “brisk” with many miles of winding B roads covered with surprisingly high velocities for old school air cooled Guzzi’s7 points

Thanks for the offer, Scud. Someone in the German forum has already indicated that he might have a switch lying around. If I can't find anything here, I'll get back to you. Here are some pictures of the damage: The back of the switch was broken off. I think the internals are all still there and intact. If I were to re-use the contact plate, I would re-solder the yellow wire. There is too much copper showing there for my taste, probably from being pulled out by force. It seems to me, the only thing that is really broken is the cup that it all sits in. Getting it all out was a bit of a fiddle. I had to dismantle to this extent Fairing screen off, and unbolt the instruments. I could get on to the screws to get the back of the switch off with a stubby #2 Phillips screwdriver. A bloody useless tool generally, but every workshop should have one for just such occasions. The plug is under the tank. I was able to raise the tank without unplugging anything just enough to get a piece of 2x1 under the front of it to hold it up whilst I unplugged the cable. Positive point: there doesn't seem to be any "tank swelling" going on. The bolt at the back of the tank came out and went back in very easily.3 points

GU02781101 Warning Light Panel 2002 The earlier (1999-2001) "Panel with Lenses" without the jeweling is GU02781100 [The later (2003-2005) panels don not have the battery light and have two turn indicators instead of one]2 points

Installation complete and road tested. All is well. Dial and needle lighting go thru switched power, the GPS runs direct to the battery. Was surprised that the GPS current draw (pre- and post signal acquisition) was just over 100mA, which explains why my battery was so low after sitting for two days. Fortunately, I can break the connection to the battery easily to avoid running it down. Oh...Speedhut is discontinuing their current gauge models ("EL lighting") and replacing them with "LED lighting" 1 May 2023. They will look different at night, so if you're running a Speedhut/OEM combo and thinking of replacing the OEM in the future, you might want to get your order in. I was also told the face of the new gauge has a slightly different "texture" and will also not match. On the plus side...no inverter required for lighting!2 points

Went to check it out last tuesday, she is a pretty rain deer, but l have long legs, knees outside of the fairing. Test ride after easter, weather permitting. Yes I am curious about the engine. Cheers Tom.1 point

Skip, I only live two hours away so I can ride some Sunday, head home in the afternoon.1 point

No way you could JB Weld the damaged part, then drill and tap it? I'll have a look for the jeweled T-panel part number. It's from the 2002 Parts Catalog . . .1 point

Hey - nice work. That was a clever solution to make a bigger contact area out of a nuts and stepped washers. Glad the household lamp fixture was useful for you.1 point

Some of us hoarders probably have a spare ignition switch. If a local hoarder is not willing to part with one, I'm pretty sure that I have one I could ship from the US.1 point

Great, Thanks Joe You answered all my questions and have given all the info I was looking for. We'll leave early Thursday, 11 hr. drive so we will trailer the bikes and get a room at the lodge. Are we riding on Sunday or is that when everyone packs up and heads home ? Thanks Again Happy Easter All SKIP1 point

Skip, sorry to get back with you so late but have been out of town with the family. We have some people camping at the campground at the State Park, we the 3 bedroom cottage that sleeps 7, at this point w Bill's scheduling issues we have 3 people set for the cottage with the tech sessions garage. As long as I can sleep on the couch out of the rain, were good, welcome all, just PM me. The Mary Ray Oaken Lodge has the restaurant and plenty of rooms to accommodate the spring Kentucky Spine Raider's, 270-433-7431. Bill, You are absolutely correct, the BMW of Nashville Euro Rider's Rally will be held in Burkesville KY at the same time as the Guzzi Spine Raid. This was completely coincidental with my spine raid idea adviser and myself, but hey it means that their will be plenty of cool bikes riding around the area. The Euro Rally is held in the city park and is camping with a bath house. By the end of the weekend I'm sure many will be over to kick tires in the tech session bourbon garage. * As for all interested in attending, now is the time to book a room. We are going to have a great time kicking tires, sipping bourbon and enjoying riding the local curvy roads. * I plan on being onsite Friday morning of the 19th, to open up the cottage/garage. If you need any more info feel free to PM me, thanks.1 point

The Speedhut speedo install is proceeding slowly. Leveraged Scud's lamp fixture idea, but I wanted to distribute the loading across a larger area of the speedo's case so Macgyvered this: Gorilla glued the step-up washers and lamp nut together as an assy then JB welded it to the back of the case. Finally, loctited the center post in place. While the "center" post is off center, the assy (including the gauge) was installed in the OEM gauge cup for the JB weld and now slips easily slip in/out of said cup. I have a direct line to the battery available to power the GPS, will use one of the now unused OEM speedo lights to power the speedo needle/dash lighting. System test went ok, with gps acquiring and dash lighting functional...though the jury is out about the needle lighting. I had to turn off the shop lights to see the subtle dash lighting...maybe the needle is subtler!1 point

Not answering you're question @Grim, but does the indicator warning LED light for both indicator directions? I ask as it looks like the V11 wiring uses the same half assed indicator wiring as on my Sport and installing an LED without bi-directional circuitry won't work (I think). With the OEM setup the current direction through the warning light, reverses with the physical direction (i.e. Left or Right) selected. The setup relies on earthing the warning light through the other indicator circuit. As the current through the warning bulb is low it's not sufficient to light the indicators on the non selected side. As an LED can only pass current in one direction, unless it has additional cricuitry installed, the indicator warning light will only work for one direction. There are LEDs that have additional circuitry built in to cope with this, but you need them if you want the indicator warning to work for both left and right sides Just a thought1 point

Yes, it was definitely tampered with. As I wrote, I just don't know whether the damage was already done when I took the battery out on the assumtion that it was flat, or whether the damage was done after that. The bike stood on the on-street parking bay all night. There were other signs that someone had messed around with it. The left mirror was pointing off at an odd angle, the lights were on high-beam (definitely not switched by me...). Someone had a good fiddle with it. I'm going around to the garage now to have a closer look at the damage...0 points

Turns out the battery may not have been flat. I can't say for sure. I went in today, got the battery out and re-installed it. As I was about to try and start it, I noticed the contact plate of the ignition switch hanging out of the left side of the fairing. I don't know if the bike was tampered with before I tried to start it last night, or during the night after I took the battery out and put it on the charger in the store room. Anyway, I found the bit with the spring loaded copper contacts on it lying inside the fairing. With the help of a copious amount of electricians tape, I was able to make a contact, start the bike, and ride it to my garage. It is in there now, and I hope to be able to get it fixed fairly soon. First thing is to have a good look at the damage, then do some research into what parts and if they are available. As far as I could tell by squinting in under the instruments, the plastic cylinder that the whole business lives in is broken. I was too dispirited to have a closer look after I got it into the garage. Needless to say, I am not amused. Edit: the first results of an internet search are not very encouraging.... https://motorize.de/de/368980-moto-guzzi-v11-sport-2003-schlosssatz-tankdeckel-schlsser-zndschloss.html0 points
