  1. Not only great for storing sandwiches, those holes were also a nice place to put a pipe to hold the bike up on axle stands.
  2. @p6x I'm surprised it's 117" in length,it looks tiny. It sounds like they have a reasonable reputation around the world;here in Canada, they're somewhat rare & a bit of an oddity,so used they tend to sell at lower prices. I'm not surprised that the guzzi engine was considered for the Fiat 500's;it's been used effectively already in a few car/trike kits. If it ever came with a version of a guzzi engine, I don't think I could resist
  3. The micro cars don't suit my needs, but I took a hard look at some of the Fiat 500s,when a fellow guzzisti raved about his. Some of the well farkled Fiat 500s I looked at were smoking deals for what you seemed to get. I don't know how long that small engine would last with a turbo;but sounded exciting for a grocery getter
  4. Interesting. I remember when Goretex was first used in outdoor gear. It was supposed to be the ultimate in breathable, waterproof gear. I was disappointed in it overall,,,tks to the video,I now know why I always sweat my a** off wearing my Gore-Tex in the rain. I agree with his thoughts on using any type of waterproof outer shell,,,if it keeps you dry. As AudioMick says, when it gets cold or wet, wool, with extra layers, works for me.
  5. I'm not surprised GuzziMoto has tried a variety of lithium batteries in his Griso; I put my Griso back on the road this fall & trying to get the full size 20ah Yuasa in,with the funky tray & wiring, was a biatch. The Griso's battery compartment makes the cramped V11's look like the Holiday Inn I've never gone lithium, other than the size/cramped space issue, the weight isn't that big an issue for me,but I can certainly see the merits in Phil's quest. Not sure what Phil's climate would be like on the lithiums; I know it's only a small sample, but is it indicative of real life battery service in different areas of the world? LaGrasta in sunny & hot California, has had great luck & performance from his lithiums & GuzziMoto, someplace in Maryland which I'm surmising is a much colder, harsher climate, has had bad luck & poor service overall from his lithiums. fwiw idk
  6. Hhhmmm Love the bike, almost bought it's twin a few years ago. Could be a smoking deal, but getting pushed around a garage every now and then for 5 years in storage,is different than being sealed up with no air movement, possibly high heat or high humidity;especially if it happened to be in a coastal area. A while back,I almost bought a gorgeous looking black & gold special edition,MG Convert, that had spent a few years stored in a dry shed in the UK. Long story short, the salty humid air in that British climate, had caused lots of hidden corrosion damage, including the swing arm pivot threads They haven't made Stelvios for a while. Owners seem to be holding onto them. I'm not seeing that many for sale in Canada;definitely been a long time since I've seen one that minty Eyes open, buyer beware, yadda yadda yadda. I'm glad it's your decision & not mine.
  7. That whole cable system from the twist throttle, right down to the adjustment knob on the end of the linkage rod is worthy of attention, when the tank is off & things are easy to work on. It's never stuck on me riding, but when I had my Lemans up on the lift & I was twisting the throttle, while I was rerouting the cable at the cam trying to smooth things out & the white plastic knob on the end of the linkage rod got hung up badly; I adjusted things to eliminate any interference for the full range of movement. As docc says;time well spent here, fettling & feathering
  8. Subject to verification,by someone who knows about this digital crap, lol I "think" guzzidiag can id the ecu once it's connected. I know it can id the map that's installed on the ecu;ergo would it not also be able to id the ecu it's plugged into? fwiw idk
  9. Any possibility that the troublesome clutch switch bullet connectors left of the head stock or some of the relays came loose while you were working around the tank & battery?
  10. Iirc up here in Canada, dealers are charging up to $10K+ for work on BMW's servo brake system if it involves major parts replacement. Owners seem to trade the bikes in just before the warranty runs out 3-4-5? yrs and take a beating on the resale price I "think" I've read of work arounds to eliminate the servo system with standard parts for under $1K? Smooth mile munchers, but I'd break into a sweat thinking about wrestling with it in the garage
  11. Yup! Lots of wannabe squids were willing to pay, sometimes twice as much for insurance coverage because of the R in the model name. Bookies in Vegas are taking bets already; if the X craze will prove as profitable
  12. That photo really captures the brutish, brawny lines & stance of the Griso
  13. I thought buying a variety of dowty washers (w inner rubber seal) would solve the slow seepage from my guzzis,,, They work well,,, I just have trouble remembering to keep them out & visible so they go on before I tighten the drain plug & fill it with oil Ps; I've always been curious about the early frame Buells,,, the descriptions of the torque & handling sound delicious
  14. I can't offer any worthwhile advice; I'm great at buying bikes, but I haven't mastered the art of selling them It might eliminate some of the deep pocket potential buyers, but I'd have a hard time letting a bike go on BAT. I don't know that much about the Lemans V model; Being probably the most capable of all the Tonti frames;it should be a very special bike to the right person. Glwts
  15. Just a WAG; you probably like smooth flowing curvy design lines in a motorcycle; if so you're not alone.
  16. Back to the OP's original post & info re the left exhaust port looking white. Just thinking out loud, coming at the evidence from a different direction; I'd be taking a real hard look at the exhaust gaskets,,, old ones mistakenly left in by POs (including me,lol) can cause sealing issues,,,,happens frequently,,,,, Did the gaskets or headers show any other signs of exhaust leaks? Were they well seated & tightened?
  17. I tried to find Shin-Etsu silicon grease from many different sources but was unsuccessful;it seems that Honda has a lock on the supply. It's listed on Amazon & other places but apparently unavailable. It can be confusing because sometimes the product description has a photo of the tube & sometimes a photo of the box the tube comes in. As per Docc's post & info above; I just placed a call to my local Honda Motorcycle/Auto Parts dealer, gave him the Honda part # 08798-9013 and had the grease within a couple of days. Honda Genuine 08798-9013 Silicone Grease "Shin-Etsu"
  18. I've only recently begun using Shin-Etsu grease on all things rubber;but I've already worked magic with it a few times. The 16 yr old rubber battery holder on my Griso (which is a pita design on it's best day),was bent so badly out of shape & stiff & dry,I thought I might not be able to salvage it. Liberal amount of Shin-Etsu worked into the rubber with a tooth brush, gentle application of heat (hot air gun) and pressure applied in the right spots once the rubber loosened up & held correctly as it cooled down. It looked almost brand new when I was finished. fwiw
  19. I didn't see your post when I made mine. You're probably right;I've been shocked reading on social media about some of the Europeans worried about their bike mods passing the annual vehicle inspection.
  20. I'm sure it's well built and goes like a scalded cat. Lately I can't even seem to manage to thread zip ties into place, let alone build something as beautiful as this,,,. But now that you've brought it up,,, anyone going to this much time & effort and still leaves the hideous stock Griso exhaust installed, calls for a public flogging, jk.
  21. "I had a bad experience ."
  22. The sensation of your tire losing grip; I'm sure has converted many from the long mileage into the traction camp. At this point; If a tire doesn't have a good "gription" reputation,I won't even consider it.
  23. Iirc doing the left cylinder first sets it up so that minimal turns will have the right cylinder in the correct tdc position shortly. I use the tire rotation method (it can be a pita);have been known to cheat with a large old slot screw driver prying gently on the flywheel teeth. I try to watch the valves moving through the tdc cycle, verify the correct tdc with a wooden skewer & that both valves are loose. fwiw
  24. Weak spark can sometimes look like richness. I flunked geography, lol, are you in an area with dry heat or is it the type of high heat with lots of salty humidity that could cause corrosion issues on electrical connections? Main ground & other connections might be worth looking at. fwiw
  25. Only if you add red plug wires the next time they're changed,,
