  1. Thanks Phil. No, my Hyperpro shock is standard length 280mm, I've not done anything about having it lengthened. Thought I'd try popping the forks up a bit more and see how this goes as it's less of a hassle. Looks like you're really enjoying your trip mate! I can tell you you're not missing anything weather wise back home! Cheers
  2. Actually, as it's $300 plus post of shock to /from SA to have it lengthened, I'm thinking about just raising the forks in triples by another 4mm to make them 12mm in total and see how this goes as should achieve much the same result.... She's bloody good in the twisties as is but I did like that really planted front feel with the tankbag on.... More to come on this later....
  3. Hoping to exercise my greenie a bit more as spring is officially here, but also hoping someone tells the weather it's time to start acting a bit more like it....
  4. Footgoose, Condolences on the loss of your mate Bill. Very sad to hear. Guzzler
  5. Yep Thanks for taking us other southerners along for the ride Bill! Always a pleasure seeing the evidence of the good times had by you all. Cheers
  6. Reckon the last time mine looked like that was 107.000 kilometres ago....
  7. Not read the book but have the movie....which was bloody good! Must read it if get the chance. Cheers
  8. Mate I've taken to wearing a Bavarian Alpen hat that I bought in Hahndorf (Sth Oz) about 10 years ago otherwise I'd probably wear one of these too! Gotta keep the sun off the hole in the back o the head....( aka the bald or thinning spot...) Cheers
  9. G'day mate. Carillo con rods are tougher stronger than stock. Early V11's are 9.5 to 1 and later longer frames 10 to 1 I believe, so the 10.25 to 1 pistons are bit higher compression. The windage plate is a Roper plate also known as a baffle plate too I think. The cam is different to stock. Sounds like it 's got timing gears having replaced the chain. Also head work by Mike Rich ie gas flowed heads, inlet tract reworked etc and bigger valves. Sounds like quite a brute of a motor and could possibly give Chucks ( ex ) Mighty Scura a bit of a run for it's money....? Cheers
  10. Geez, be interesting to have a ride on that to see the difference the Mike Rich mods make eh....
  11. Actually did something I've been meaning to do for bloody ages...... Degreased the motor and gave her a good clean and wax/polish! Now she gleams like a Greenie should! She was filthy after riding in the storm the other week and a heavy drizzle yesterday. Cheers
  12. Ha ha To each our own mate as it's what we're used to eh. In my case well used to it but retirement isn't far away though. I couldn't cope with starting at 2.30pm though... Cheers

Mate, I'd doubt my Greenie would be in the same league as the mighty Scura with her High comp pistons and Mike Rich headwork plus Stucchi and breathing mods if I remember correctly.... but I'm not too fussed about the actual numbers these days, just happy she's running well and strong. I've been more focused on the suspension and handling to tell the truth! This is the first Guzzi I've owned so don't have much experience to compare but can say that after owning her for 14 or so years I still love it .... Jeezuz they get under your skin! Cheers
  14. Ha ha Mate my hours are actually 6.30am to 2.30pm but due to living in Drouin I'm usually up at 5am and out the door at 5.15ish to avoid the worst of the traffic. It's only when I take the bike that I get up a bit earlier 4.30-4.45 ish as it takes longer to get togged up/ warm up the bike etc and then I have to stop for gas and get helmet and gloves back on blah blah .... I also intersperse this with working from home which means a commute of metres not kilometres so it all works pretty well and I'm well used to the early starts now! The ride home usually makes up for it too...ha ha . Cheers

    Remap

G'day, I just dragged the old Dyno reading out... It was actually 77 rwhp and 61 ft pounds when I got the bike. This was all standard except K and N filter and open Mistrals. Then I added a PC111 and a custom map which brought it to 79.60 rwhp and same 61 ft pounds of torque. Later on I added a Stucchi crossover and removed the airbox lid and the PC111 was dumped. Brad reflashed the ECU after retuning on the dyno. Buggered if I know why I didn't get a copy of the dyno run but reckon it's about 83-85 hp at the wheel and a wee bit more torque 63 ish perhaps ? Cheers
  16. Gotta love the sight of two greenies together! It's a very very rare sight down here. Cheers

Sounds a bit like mine...( 01 Sport ). Open air box lid, K& N filter Stucchi crossover and open Mistral carbon cans plus remap. I have a dyno printout with 80 rwhp and 60 ft/pounds before adding the crossover and removing the airbox lid and the new map! I'd guess mid 80's and maybe 63 ish ft/pd's.I don't know why I never got a copy of the dyno run after these mods. Cheers Ps yeah much more responsive......
  18. Well after a week of wild wind (up to 100kph blasts) and rain it looked like a window of opportunity opened for a ride into the office yesterday. So, much to my wife's concern come hell or high water I'm riding in... Of course, the brief lull in the weather was but a ruse to fool me into thinking it'd be a lovely early spring morning ride. Up at 4.30am togged up and riding out the driveway at 5.00am. Holy shit it's windy but also a balmy 17 degrees. Now normal folk would realise that with this much wind and such a balmy temp that trouble is brewing and indeed it was! But with only a few rides in the last 3 months I was oblivious to reason! It was bloody windy as hell on the higher ground and the drizzle was starting (so much for the rain radars dry corridor) and after gas at the servo I was on my way again.Oh well wind and a bit of drizzle a small price to pay. Then once I'd dropped down off the higher ground Hell decided to unleash the high water and it began urinating with enough force to have some considering a second Ark! Jesus (no he was no help) this was getting crazy, dark, blowing a gale, very very wet and 4 lanes of heavy traffic! But actually I was grinning like a loon and loving it! The bike despite all that was going on was stable and planted and the Angel GT 11 tyres were fantastic and handled it all brilliantly. So, by the time I got to the office at 6am I was soaked ( upper body as did put wet leggings on... just in case ha ha ) and within minutes the place looked like a laundromat. Once I had the computer up and running, I saw news that we'd had a peak wind gust of 154 kph down on the coast! Jesus ( maybe he did look out for me after all ) what a morning. Anyways it all abated about 10 am was even sunny by the time I fired the bike up at 2.30pm for the ride home. Glad to report that although a bit windy but nothing like this morning I ENJOYED a little Italian tune up/ cobweb removing jaunt on the funway home... Of course, a Shiraz by the fire was in order and somewhat well-deserved I thought....
  19. A good ole Italian tune up.... They work wonders for both man and machine!
  20. Think there might be more breeding than mechanical work going on in those er workshops....
  21. Fingers crossed it's not so bad mate!
  22. I remember the first time I heard a CD and thinking gee it sounds a bit brighter than Vinyl or tape too.... Also have an Onkyo amp that I've had for nigh on 30 years as well and still working great. I did hear Onkyo's famous build quality took a nose- dive sometime after we bought our amps mate! One of these days I'll update to a pre/power set up and have my Dali speakers serviced..... Cheers
  23. No worries DGI. Mate we can only dream of that sort of attitude to speed here in Victoria....it really is ridiculous. A couple of kays over and it's a 2 or $300 donation to the Policemans ball and 2 or more points off your licence. If you really let er rip you can end up in jail and lose your bike too. Sooo glad I gave it heaps back in the day as tolerance is long gone. Tassie (Tasmania) has a much better attitude and some brilliant roads and riding but I believe the roads like everywhere else here in Oz are going downhill too. It's a bit of an effort/cost in getting your bike down there too. It was a riders paradise back in 87 on my GPZ900. My native NZ has great roads too but a similar attitude to speed as here in Victoria.....arghhh. Just gotta make the best of what we've got I guess and be ever watchful for Mr Plod. Actually, that's where the Guzzi is handy in that you can still enjoy yourself without going over the top.I don't know how you could run a modern litre bike or even a smaller sport bike and keep your licence for any length of time. I've got a Hyperpro shock on the rear and have 15mm of preload* on it now and 28 of 50 clicks rebound ( Both comp and reb are set together on a fixed ratio on these emulsion shocks) and forks sorted resprung/valved and adjusted for me. She's still firm but worth it for the way she handles. Mate the best thing you can do on the red frame V11 is sort the compression leg ie block those holes so oil goes thru valving and not everything damping wise in the last 25mm of travel and hydraulic lock! Then correct springs for your weight and adjust accordingly. I may add 5mm to the shock down the track to put a bit more weight on the front. Mate, I look at some of the photos of the roads in the States and the condition of them, and think wow they' be fun especially with that tolerance so you can enjoy them. Anyway's we can still have some fun and enjoy ourselves down here all the same. Ha ha enjoy mate and keep that Oz licence handy as it seems to be doing the trick eh! Cheers * up from 10mm.
  24. Yep,I agree mate. I reckon the synthetic fuel Porsche is working on is the go for the future as well and keep an ear out to catch up with how they're going with it! It has to be the way forward with the ability to utilize the existing infrastructure with minimal if any change to that and our vehicles too no doubt. Electric as much as the green contingent blather on about it is no alternative especially here in Oz and Hydrogen although better than electric would mean a big change in infrastructure to accommodate unless I'm mistaken. Oh well I'm off to cut some wood now so I can burn it and play my part in the emergency..... Cheers
