  1. Well it's amazing what a little tappy tap tap can do! Solenoid fuel valve was stuck shut. Gave it some light percussive maintenance and hey presto, she fired up instantly!

  2. The matter of registering vehicles as "antique" (25 years old here in Tennessee, USA) now applies to three of my vehicles (my two motorcycles and the 1999 ///M roadster). I was rather disappointed getting the antique plate for my 1990 Honda GB500 as the "tag" is a flat, uninspiring printed piece. I tried to register an older "embossed"/ "stamped" antique tag I had for a 1975 motorcycle, but The State could not find it in their system. So, I mounted this tag as the displayed "millesime"/ vintage plate and attached the registered "antique" plate/tag under the seat. This practice might require some explaining in the event of a roadside "conversation." A conundrum arises registering my 2000 Sport as "antique" this year. It seems I already have a "millesime"/vintage 2000 stamped plate. It's the one that has been on the bike all along. There is a stack of renewal stickers representing something like $1350US in registration fees over these twenty-five years. I could mount the newly acquired "antique" tag under the seat and leave the original "vintage" tag in place, but it will just look >expired< likely leading to more of said "conversations" . . . While the GB500 and, perhaps, the ///M roadster might look antique-enough, I wonder if the V11 Sport design is just too Disco Volante to be considered properly "antique" by the common constabulary . . .

  3. In Ky there are all kinds of rules/limits on annual mileage / operating in parades , just a bunch of things to dissuade you from considering a vintage plate.

  4. As non US, I am very observant of the laws and rules of the country I am currently living. I lived in many, including some where you can be incarcerated for just being a foreigner. I learned to blend in. But I also was in the military, when you learn to obey without any hesitation. It kind of stuck on me. I am disciplined. Here where I live, I see a lot of cars with license tags covers that make them very difficult to read by the eye. I am not certain, but I bet the police cars have cameras that can read through those filters. I have been stopped by the police several times, never been ticketed or referred to anything. Being an old guy has some advantages. This is my guess; I may be wrong. But it was really misdemeanor stuff; such as having only one license plate on my 911. I was told you need to have one in the front, but this was only a recommendation. A friend of mine has been fined, and had to send a picture of the installed front tag to the country. It seems the traffic rules are left to the appreciation of the police.

  11. Anything is possible. Start eliminating causes. Answer Pressureangle's ?s first. Pay attention to the fuel pump noise when you turn the key on . Battery voltage= Fuel shut-off valve= do you have a mechanic's stethoscope ? If so , you might be able to hear it energize . That doesn't mean it opened . How difficult is it to disconnect the fuel line and see if fuel flows when you turn the key on ? I hope you are running ZERO alcohol fuel . this fuel w/alcohol content is not good on things Spark= have you removed the spark plug and reconnected the lead laying it over against the head and cranked to see spark ?

  13. Can you hear the fuel squirting back into the tank while priming? on my 'Sport I can tell when it's properly primed. If you can hear fuel returning- try it with the cap open to make it easier to hear- then suspect that the cranking battery voltage has dropped below ~10v and the ignition module isn't active.

  14. Here in FL, nobody cares what you do with historic/antique tagged vehicles. Next time I have to replace a plate it will be vintage; my only vehicles that don't qualify are my '04 Yukon and this accidental '05 BMW RT. If I take a Moto Guzzi, or my '68 Charger anywhere including the grocery store, it's an automatic car show because inevitably I end up talking to someone. If I'm driving up the boulevard, it's a parade; FL statute doesn't include a definition for 'parade', nor requires some sanction for it. Statute requires permitting for parades that interfere with traffic or normal business. For plate covers, paints, etc. that are intended to defeat reading, either by eye or technology, they are strictly forbidden though I don't personally know anyone who's been cited for it. The plate readers on the squad cars are so good it probably doesn't matter anyway.

  15. They have rules in Texas too. Basically, the only times you are supposed to ride your bike is during parades, or vintage vehicles reunions, or to a garage for maintenance. Now, I doubt very much the Police will pay much attention to a vintage motorcycle with an antique tag. I read a blog from a guy who has a long list of reasons to be proposed to the police in case of a stop while being on the road. Such as going to meet friends that want to see the car and look at it.

  16. My preferred bar end mirrors fit over existing bar end weights, as long as the bar end weights are not tapered. Some are. As to brands, the standard high end options are always good. But I am running cheaper knockoff mirrors that are sold by a number of people but all likely made in the same chinese factory. We actually have a set from Husqvarna (factory accessories) that are pretty sweet and have a round mirror. But they replace the bar end weight. Keep in mind, the bar end weight does what it does by placing weight at the end of the handlebars. Pretty much any bar end mirror is going to be placing weight at the end of the handlebars. I would be surprised if many bar end mirrors weighed less then the stock bar end weights.

  17. my 2000 v11 sport had aftermarket bar end mirrors on it, I found the bar end mirrors provided good rear view visibility but with some vibration, which I didn't like; but I also found they kept bumping into things particularly in the garage. I replaced them with rizoma mirrors and bar end weights.

  19. Yes docc, had a quick squiz at this battery tray drop. Thanks… What a nifty idea….but I will try move the battery as quite small in comparison to the new rubber tray I purchased. I do have some wiggle room….

  20. Exactly. The Tenni was the first V11 I'd ever seen. I didn't even have to ride it. That said, any temptation regarding a motorcycle should be acted on.

  21. I could have my "right and left" mixed up looking upward at your under-tank image. One is the tank vent and one is the overflow. Both could be combined to atmosphere with a single exit below the gearbox.

  22. Thanks again docc, yes, followed your earlier link to the American Digikey webshop (which had already converted prices to Aussie dollars…!) and bought the Picker relays you recommended, plus a few other electrical bits… Here is (to me anyway) the fun part…..while navigating this purchase…before I could get to the payment section…I had to answer an extra set of questions about who I am, my usage of the parts, am I going to on-sell them etc… I thought this must be all part of the USA/China superpower rivalry with the USA being cautious around exporting its technology/sanctions and the like…. The parts arrived swiftly. But to my complete surprise….everything I purchased is made in China!! Sorry if I am off topic but thought humorous in the current volatile climate….regards, tennitragic!

  24. Vinyl records and pick-up players. I offered a Thorens player (including an extra diamant needle) on a local e-bay site for 50 Euro (how stupid can you be?) some 20 years ago in an attempt to clear all the old audio stuff. Towers we called them, on top the pick-up, then an amplifier, the radio and below the double deck cassette player. All seperate units in a 19" rack. We had 3 of them, but this with the Thorens was the best. It was sold in 15 minutes, the guy arrived 1,5 hours later, had driven 200km (and 100km/h really is the max speed overhere. I knew by then that it could have gone for 10 times the price :-). Anyway, In all those 20 years after, I never played the records. So, I think, I should make somebody else happy with them. After all, they are getting popular again and before you know it they end up in a box behind all the windsurfing stuff. Anybody interested in a couple of boards and sails?

  27. A brief update….new set of relays, DeOxit on the battery terminal connectors and minor tidy up the pack of poo tickets. Haven’t removed the tank but all the other bodywork has had a clean prior to eventual refitting and also a dose of ACF50. Battery remains upright with a new tray and strap. To place side down as others suggested, with so many wires to each terminal did appear to strain some of the more rigid wiring? The seat goes on…just… Waiting on the repaired tachometer (coming from Germany) to finish the task of recommissioning for the local roads… Thanks to all and regards from tennitragic

  33. Around here Mo. & Il. require front/rear plates . Ky & Tn do not require front/rear plates . The plate covers were advertised in Automobile magazine to filter mounted cameras for speeders . I am sure the decals performed the same deed for the plates.

  34. As for first year of the new century and, in this instance, millennium, I pleaded guilty to pedantry. and am awaiting findings and sentencing. WRT to vehicle tags, there's a long thread on the issue here: https://advrider.com/f/threads/why-do-people-cover-their-license-plates.1516730/ Quibblingly yours, Bill

  35. Congrats! I have sold cars and motorcycles, but (almost) always with a pang of regret. We keep most of ours for years and hundreds of thousands of miles. My '98 EV, bought as a new leftover in 2000, has 108K miles, and would have many more if I had not had dalliances and affairs with others along the way ... although several of those are still in my moto-harem down in the snowed-in Moto Grappa. At risk of offering even more evidence of my pedantry, was not the year 2000 the last year of the second millennium, and thus not the first year of the third? Best wishes from the frozen top of Virginia, Bill P.S. I like the way you don't mask your tags. It always interests me when folks do that.

  39. Just to elaborate on what I have been thinking; Like MANY Guzzi fans, for decades, I have wished Guzzi would produce a real sport bike. (I have looked at the Ghezzi Brian stuff but the looks are not my cup of tea). Most modern bikes lack soul (and a visible engine), and my V11 sport showed me that there is another Italian bike that can give you goose bumps other than a Ducati (no irreverence implied to other marques!). If you think about what really gets us going with our bikes, a large amount of the emotion involved comes from looking at a gorgeous hunk of engine. Think about a Vincent, Laverda, Ducati, Harley etc etc and you will realize that modern design has lots its connection with this key component of our lust for some machines. Guzzi's have great looking engines in my opinion. OK so I want a real sport Guzzi. Well unfortunately I missed out on the MGS 01. So what to do ????..... how about taking a Griso and; 1. Put an Ohlins front end on it with brembo radial calipers and BST carbon wheels front and rear (or PVM , Marchesini or similar). 2. Custom triple clamps from Speedymoto or similar. 3. New clip on bars with rizoma controls etc. 4. Ohlins rear shock. 5. New exhaust a la MGS 01 and improved intake. 6. Engine work to get power up around 130 hp. 7. New body work and tail section from carbon fiber to help get weight down. Stuck with the carc unfortunately, works OK but looks crappy. Yeah Yeah Yeah don't start going on about the cost alright.... I Know!! ..... its OK for me, I can afford this hobby. I think this would be a killer bike and most of us will die waiting for the Guzzi bosses to do this. I don't want to wait.
